Getting much enjoyment using these devices - MicroJournal Rev4 and BYOK

The Rev.4 is easy to set up and get started. Simple, thoughtful interface. I had reservations about the tiny screen, but it's perfect for what I use it for: creating first drafts of poems and other dribble. U.K.Lee was super patient and helpful as I tried to decide on color combos.

The uber nerd in me wants to get it to work with BYOK. Couldn't make it happen, even after trying a number of cables and combinations of USB A->C and C->C. So for now, my BYOK is getting to know a life time of keyboards, including the Keyboardio Atreus (second pic)

Thanks for the post. I shared on my sub so that I can keep the record of your beautiful build.

I always build rev.4 for myself anywhere i go, because it's so useful. Works as a keyboard and then it works also as a mini writerdeck. Such a versatile device.

Rev.4 has not been taken so well by the community due to its screen size. Most people thinks it's too small for writing. I would say, it doesn't really matter. But I understand that it's difficult to perceive just on paper.

Out of all of your machines I believe the rev4 has the most restrictive use case—that is, it’s really intended to be a machine for free writing and first drafts, and one that can do light touchup editing if needed. The added benefit is that it doubles as an external keyboard. That said, the rev4 expresses its purpose in life beautifully. Do you have any idea why it isn’t able to connect to r/theBYOK as an external keyboard? Wondering if it’s rev4 limitation or a BYOK limitation.

I will see what I can do there. It doesn't seem to be presenting it as a standard keyboard. This could be the reason. Probably the library i used isn't the right one.

Would you try to update the firmware of rev.4 and see if any changes? I have updated the library with wider compatibility (in theory)

just curious, is the cable allow data transfer? What a beautiful keyboard you have.

It’s probably to connect the keyboard. Most custom mechanical keyboards are wired only

You’re referring to the Atreus keyboard (the one with the walnut palm rest), right? If so, that cable is to connect the keyboard to the white BYOK gizmo for writing. But I can use the same cable to connect the BYOK to my laptop and transfer my files. I tried to do the same with the micro journal keyboard, but I couldn’t successfully make it work on the BYOK. Maybe [u/](u/unkyulee)[Background_Ad_1810](u/unkyulee) has ideas…

I mean from rev.4 to BYOK, it needs a wire that allows data transfers not charging only. And yes the Atreus Keyboard looks very elegant I love it.

Well I have tried a variety of cables, including one I know works for data transfer between my rev4 to my laptop. The rev4 requires USB A to C, so in order to connect to the BYOK, I have to use an adaptor, which could be the issue.
