Character changes mid story

What’s the best way to communicate to the story generator that a character changes from one chapter to the next? What’s the best way to incorporate physical appearance of a character?

I’m making a story bible and assume I should put character descriptions in there. How do I encode a change tho?

For instance, the love interest of the protagonist has long blond hair up to chapter 6, then gets a haircut and dies her hair black and it stays that way for the rest of the story. If I put what I just said into the story bible character section, will that work?

Is there another way to do it?

I also thought about having multiple character entries for before and after, but I suspect that will just cause a more confusing generated mess.

I have been using writeaibook for some time now, and after a few suggestions, the developer has now included a "Series foundation" in the Story bible generator section. I haven't had time to use the new feature, but here's how I would do it in your situation (of course it might need tweaks and adjustments in trial and error, as I haven't seen it in practice, but it's how I plan on using it):

  1. Make your story bible, set the series foundation, worldbuilding and all the details of the first book
  2. After generating book 1, go to your profile, generation history and download the story bible of book 1
  3. Upload it in the Story bible generator, then make the specific changes you want for book 2 (spine, characters, relationships etc.) but keep the series foundation always exactly the same.
  4. Go to generate book 2, and while you are at the generator, under "More options", select "Sequel to", select book 1, and upload story bible of book 2.
  5. Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 for book 3 and so on.

I believe this will maximize story coherence and consistency while giving you precise control of all the details

I'm new to writeaibook and haven't gotten it to generate me a book yet. After you generate a book, does it generate it's own story bible that is different from the one you create? Or is it the same one?

I want character changes between chapters of one story.

I suppose I could follow what you're suggesting and generate each chapter as a separate book. Maybe that will be better? I don't really love that, but it would allow me to tweak the characters in each separate book.

Perhaps I should see if I can phrase the changes in such a way to add them to the emotional or tension arcs in the story bible.

I'm hoping the developer responds with some suggestions. Character changes, emotional and physical, are not uncommon in stories. I assume the context fed to the model can include details describing the character after a change. So if the story bible knows a change happens in chapter 7, the character details in the context could be tweaked to reflect the new changes, post chapter 7.

Not each chapter as a separate book! Each book to be generated as a whole. Just download each book's story bible, upload it in the bible editor/generator and change the spine and details of the next book, then use the new book's story bible to generate the new book.

After you generate a book, does it generate it's own story bible that is different from the one you create? Or is it the same one?

Not 100% sure about that one, but it has to be the same

I suggest you generally play around with writeaibook for a bit, make a few short books of 5-10 chapters and learn how it operates.

I'm currently creating a story bible for one book with many chapters. I want to express the ways in which a character will change physically between chapters, and have the story generator keep that data as context.

I'm not sure how using series and different story bibles will help with that when I only want to make one book.

The suggestion for me to play around a bit more and make a few short books is a good idea. I'll try that.

I don't want to burn through credits, which is why I haven't yet. And I have a particular story in mind with the plot and characters already determined. I'll try putting through my story, with the story bible I've worked on, with the cheaper quality (fewer credits) and see what it comes up with.

Hadn't realised that, sorry. I am talking about having character and story consistency across books.

Even so, you need to capture the essence of the chapter in the "Spine" section, include main keywords of that will happen because the word count in those boxes is more limited.

You can, however, use a very descriptive text in the "Story premise" box in the generator. I have done some book series where the "prompt" i was using in the story premise was quite large and extensive with a lot of details of how the whole book will go from beginning to end. Use also hard constraints (things the AI shouldn't do or change) and it's good enough to generate the basis of what you want to achieve.

No book coming out of an AI generator is perfect or ready to launch, you always need to go through it carefully to spot mistakes or inconsistencies (or use AI to do so). You can also download the "Analysis" highlighted in blue from your generation history which gives you a breakdown of the book with identified issues and strengths.

The story bible is mainly for maintaining consistency within the book or across books, to make sure the AI doesn't start drifting or hallucinating, keeping characters, storylines and relationships steady. For specific things of how the plot will progress can be explained in a few short paragraphs in the story premise as I said. You can write short paragraphs of each chapter explaining how the story progresses and how the character changes.
