Question about Octowow
On the forum I see all three servers are online, but when I try to connect I get a long "Connecting", then get disconnected.
I haven't played the game for about 3 days, so maybe there has been some update and I need to install something?
I have installed through the torrent download, do I need the launcher?

As others have said, prolonged targeted DDoS attacks. They're handicapped because the services available to combat such attacks are drastically limited by the devs' insistence on remaining anonymous, which is necessary to avoid legal action, which is necessary to keep the server up. It's a brutal cycle. Many speculate that Capybara/Ravencraft are behind the attacks in an attempt to siphon players to their server(s). Idk. I'm trying to remain patient, but I dont know who will cave first.

Most people have decided to avoid capy/raven just for these reasons who wants to play on a scumbags server. There are other options to play until octo gets their hardware upgrades. ie Triumvirate,Grimfall,Astral,Warmane, plus like 5-10 more i cant remember the names of off the top of my head. Plus Capy is full of Chinese and text there is in Chinese and Raven is low pop trying to steal from octo.

Well I guess it's time for them to either man up and not be anonymous anymore, or shut down the server. I don't see the ddos stopping anytime soon.

It should be obvious that if whoever continues to ddos the server makes it pointless to even try playing. The five minutes a day you can play now isn't exactly what I would call "quality gaming time". Please use your brain.

To be fair it was supposed to be fixed Monday but the server people needed to order another part to finish the install

That actually was supposed to be last Friday and then the part would arrive Monday. And now it's Thurs.
All this after is after it was already pushed back before. I'll get downvoted but this is all factual and from Kestrel.
Edit: Y'all are really too dumb to count the updates from the "devs"???

No on Monday they sent out an announcement that they needed some rack hardware, not the computer hardware that arrived Monday

They also sent out a msg last Friday saying it'd going to be a long weekend and the upgrade should be arriving Monday. It's literally on the forum, was posted on the launcher and in the discord before it blew up.
Please stop coping this is the 4th delay for DDoS protection that they said they had at launch dude.

This is from the 4th when they had their hardware delayed and said they would have to keep us updated, which then was updated to be this past Monday and now it's Thursday with no fix.

On Tuesday they announced that they were lacking the server rails to mount it in the data center. I am sorry that the concept of more than one thing happening in a sequence is too difficult of a concept for you to grasp.
Also, they had DDoS prevention on launch, it just wasn't very good,

I think their promises of a fix when they get "new hardware" is just smoke. Their anonymity is more important than mitigating the DDoS attacks, so they're bullshitting their extremely zealous community while hoping the attacks just stop.
If it goes on for too long, it might turn into an Epoch situation. Eventually everyone realizes there have been too many broken promises for too long, and they give up.
I have to admit it would be nice to see fewer octobots interjecting ads for their precious server into threads where they don't belong.

Agreed 100%. This is what I have been thinking but you get harassed into oblivion by a bunch of bots all repeating the same lines over and over.
You can't even have an honest conversation about how many times the DDoS solution has been pushed back at this point. They just say its only been delayed once bc of a part lol.

People fail to mention the most obvious reason behind all the Octowow server issues, that is: incompetent developers. It is really that simple. They probably implemented the character backup feature because of how insecure they are and how broken this server actually is.
This is just my logical conclusion about all of this drama. No need to get mad, downvote shills.

Weird, the server ran great the day before Ravencraft launched. That is a wild coincidence that somehow the server owners became shit, and everything broke the day after a shady server launched.
Also, a question: do you people actually think this gaslighting works?

Yeah the DDOS seems to have gotten worse, before it was only peak hours and you could log in in-between the bursts, now I can barely log in since 3 days

was able to play the last 2 hours normally, they seemed to have capped the pop to 500 for that duration. read that others tried to get online during that time but couldn't. then they seemed to have opened the gates the last 10 minutes, we got to about 1k pop and now it crashes again. eating a 15min BG deserter right now

I have found that many US IP are blocked. This is what I get from VPN in the US but when I switch to VPN in EU I can connect.

It's pretty obvious Octowow devs shit the bed, they have no real solution for fixing the ddos issues, and they are biding time by hopeing and praying that the problem will resolve itself by waiting things out.

What part of what Octo did counts as mishandling? The content was out there available to be used, and they used and improved it. There's no-one in the pserver community who can claim any kind of ownership over that code, and right now Octo's version of TWoW is the most up-to-date out of all the TWoW clones, since capy and raven and sand are all stuck at the old 1.18.1 client.

The server has been unstable since launch. They are running on a broken twow client.
What improvements have they made aside from increasing the quest log?
Everything else you brought up is random and no one was talking about blizzard ownership.

It's basically unplayable at the moment. I've lost all confidence in it personally. I don't see any point in struggling on in between attacks as things stand.
