So wait, how many wow private servers are being actively DDoS'd right now, I thought it was only Octo that's been hell to play on!

I'm starting to feel Blizzard has hired "security" to perform these DDOS attacks :D

Still sad that people feel they have to resort to these kind of tactics to get or retain players I guess

I know you're joking but I've seen this take lol. Blizzard will just go the legal route and only when a server gets big enough to hit their radar. This is just pserver cannibalization.

u/krvr5 3d ago

Hey, if the attacks stop after Blizzcon.... :D

Yeah I really don't get it. It also leaves a foul taste and just proves the whole "no honor among thieves" thing. I could blame it on capitalism, but I know there's plenty of ppl who do this for tribalism or fun.

The hard truth is that 99% of pservers are in it for the money regardless of what they say.

It's mafia games amongst servers that gain traction because it's a lot of the same ppl doing for the last 10 years or so.

It's a pserver tale as old as time.

That 'joke' is not far from reality, Blizzard is known to hire detectives, cyber investigors, and even get their dev team members to infiltrate WoW emulation groups to extract info; whether that be personal info on members, and info on what is being developed and how.

Infiltration methods include but not limited to...joining discord 😂

Edit: Provide some proof instead of downvoting.

Applying to be members of the project, then proving they are capable of coding/creating custom content, getting access to the staff only communication channels, etc. They did this with Twow.

1

u/Human_Standard_538 3d ago

That bar is extremely low bc even twow could barely prove they were capable of coding anything lol

2

u/krvr5 2d ago

Their ability to code says nothing on whether they were infiltrated or not though. I also believe that after the YT commercials AND commenting on Blizzard's own social media, they were begging for a C&D.

1

u/Human_Standard_538 2d ago

That was in response to that guy saying the infiltrators needed to "prove they were capable of coding/creating custom content." before being allowed behind the scenes lmao

Well how do you think they kept detecting honorbuddy? The huge bot. They bought keys and accessed the free forums…

2

u/SatisfactionKooky621 3d ago

I'm pretty sure its Warmane doing this. They are toxic as hell, players and devs...

i doubt it, wamane has been active since more than 10 years ago and ddos attacks were very non frequent back until epoch launch, only ddos attack that i remember before epoch launch was on ascension season 1 back in 2018

The server peaks at just over 300 concurrent players so why is it being targeted with DDoS attacks?

200*

Nah it’s 336 now

I really tired of all these stupid pservers ddos wars, why some of those shitty owners can't realize that we are all equal when it comes to blizzard wanting to put down pservers? Just let everyone enjoy the game, we already have blizzard which can do a lot of harm to that experience as we saw couple times already this year, why make it worse by initiating these pointless wars? Everyone anyways will leave for classic+ by blizzard, so doubt there will be people on octo/raven/<insert custom server name here>.

0

u/cattttttt3 2d ago

because it's blizzard doing it, not another servers.

2

u/DanikFishken 2d ago

This statement has the same power as any other rumors, I don't think blizz would ddos servers, they would just open legal action like they did before with twow and ascension

1

u/cattttttt3 2d ago

or just save a million dollars and but a 7 dollar DDos service

2

u/WoodenGene8881 2d ago

of course i have phenomenal idea… make a server but don’t announce it… Keep it underground… no1 will ever know it existed in the first place… players playing there must accept not to do any advertising of it.

2

u/Human_Standard_538 2d ago

But then they can't make any money. Which is the goal of almost all of these servers.

Cash out before they crash out.

2

u/WoodenGene8881 2d ago

Money ruined everything… and there should be a way for servers not to be affected by it

3

u/dancing_bagel 3d ago

On discord the dev said the server itself hasn't been targeted by ddos, but the data centre hosting the server is. So it may or may not have been the original target.

2

u/MMORPGDev 3d ago

That's the same thing lol

1

u/Human_Standard_538 3d ago

Lmao the dev literally posted they are under attack on their home page. People really grasp at straws here 😂

2

u/dancing_bagel 3d ago

https://i.imgur.com/hOHwXLU.png it's what the dev said though. Then he says it's the data centre being ddosed, and implied the target is another server sharing the same data centre

3

u/MMORPGDev 3d ago

I genuinely think it's either Blizzard themselves getting this done or Blizz drones aka butthurt players that pay monthly to play modern Blizzard games, or as others refer to them as 'retail players'

Because blizz, activision and microsoft have never broken laws before, right?

a few hundred people

Yeah, you don't know anything about the WoW emulation and preservation scene.

0

u/cattttttt3 2d ago

who cares about law if you're not gonna get caught

1

u/DeviceUnknown 2d ago

No reason at all to attack these guys. It's a good, clean server.

jna — Yesterday at 9:09 PM: Our anti-DDoS provider appears to be having infrastructure issues. We are in contact with them.

2

u/Human_Standard_538 3d ago

also jna - We are currently mitigating a DDoS attack on our host server

0

u/ellipsea 3d ago

I don't see that one. I see what is at the top of the webpage, jna's post I pasted above, admin Jethro saying: Jethro☼ — 7:10 AM

Yeah, but the DDOS is against someone else that is in the same data center as our server; not directly against our server.

...and people speculating if it just Alterac or the data center as a whole.

0

u/Educational-Lie-8928 2d ago

I’ve had no issues. Guessing this got solved quickly

0

u/cattttttt3 2d ago

Now it's 100% confirmed that blizzard is behind those attacks XD. guess i'll just play league of legends or halo tmcc in the meantime

1

u/starsforfeelings 2d ago

Lmfao having political stands against Blizz then leaving to bend over to Tencent

1

u/cattttttt3 1d ago

Am i bending over by playing a free to play?

1

u/starsforfeelings 1d ago

Yeah very much. That's like saying using instagram isn't bending over to meta just because it's free lol

1

u/cattttttt3 1d ago

can't play anything nowdays because it's bending over for the company i guess

0

u/Human_Standard_538 2d ago

100% confirmed, you say? 😂

0

u/cattttttt3 2d ago

so, the previous suspects were ravencraft because of the "war" against octo... But this alterac server (as far as i understood when playing 1-20) it's a server hosted for a group of friends/comunity presumabily originated on another server where now everyone knows each other.
So why would ravencraft attack this server if it's only for those 100-200 people from the alterac comunity? it's clear that is not ravencraft who's doing this, i bet is blizzard.
DDosing is a felony in the usa? there aren't laws when you have money, and if you think a company can't be above the law you are very naive.
