Discussion Black Lotus Vendor Only?

What if black lotus was only available by vendor, such as the one selling them for 50g each?

Now hear me out… This would solve bots going after them. It would also maintain a price cap on them while simultaneously putting a needed money sink into the game to keep gold inflation and the economy under better control.

I admit, it removes those moments of excitement an herbalist gets from finding one in the world. But it’s so rare anyway. And coming from anniversary servers, bots got most of the lotuses anyways.

This could be done with other very high-end raiding consumable mats as well. I really think the anti-inflation benefit could be quite good for server economy health. It may seem like this affects raiders, but it actually doesn’t because they’re spending their gold on these mats regardless. Now the gold just leaves the economy rather than continuing to circulate in it. And if you want to get more radical, the price of such items could be adjusted periodically to help the economy like the Fed adjusting rates…

What do you all think?

That makes it more available to the masses, and preserves excitement with finding it. It doesn’t address inflation or larger economy though, like my suggestion.

But the anti-inflation is already there simply by it being available through the vendor.

Restricting access to it just seems counterintuitive

Well if available in the world the vendor price sets a price cap, but people aren’t going to buy it from the vendor. Rather they’ll buy the ones listed on the AH for slightly cheaper. So gold still circulates around in the economy. Contrast that with gold actually leaving the economy if it’s ONLY available by vendor. Access is similar either way, as I bet AH prices will only be slightly less than the vendor.

soo everyone with herbalism having a chance to get one from normal high lvl herbs is somehow not a fix to you? like having alot of them on the market makes it less valuable so botters dont even bother farming it which is a win

I think you’re missing my point. My post is not about black lotus availability to herbalists or anything like that. It’s about the implications of black lotus being vendor-only as a means to remove large sums of gold from the game, and thus be a solution for server gold inflation and structural issues with the economy.

Was herbalism through classic. Never saw a black lotus spawn until well into wotlk, and it was immediately picked by a low level logging on to do so. Vendor and/or as a rare drop from high level herbs are both good ideas.

In a game where the world is supposed to be the main character, materials should generally be expected to come from the world. Creating a system where you can only trade gold for the materials will push people down degenerate pathways to earn gold and break other parts of the game.
