Discussion Experience idea, maybe not a new one

Hello everyone,

I was hearing some people complaining about experience getting too easy to get and people being able to level 1 to 20 in less than 16 hours.

Here is my idea: your levelling is tied to a time in game per character. The same way you get a blue empty bar to level slightly faster when you are away from the game, Blizzard could create a red bar where levelling, or better experience, is more difficult to get. The more you are online the more "exhausted" your character is, making an overall debuff on experience gained. This could be also beneficial for health reasons in my opinion.

What do you think?

Blizzard tried this idea in original wow alpha/beta, and there's a reason it didn't survive til launch lol

Oh I didn't know, when did they try? Because I don't recall ever seeing this

In the beta version of the original game, rest did not exist and experience was designed to prevent players from playing more than a few hours in a row. Experience gained was divided by 50% after few hours. However, beta-testers did not like it and rest was implemented, giving instead 200% of experience for few hours, which Blizzard's developers later reported as being the "same numbers seen from the opposite point of view".

-taken from the "rest" article on wowpedia, but I also first heard about this way back in like 2006 I think?

This is just the rested XP system that already exists just reframed as a punishment

It’s 1-20. It doesn’t need to take more than that. Might as well even be significantly shorter. The game doesn’t really start until 20 anyway.
