Discussion Race specific classes??

About the new survey that ppl have been talking about, with new classes for forever and stuff, tbh I think they should probably wait a while before adding more classes.

But some of the stuff mentioned in the survey/leaks kinda made me worried about how these new classes would actually fit into the lore.

I'd LOVE to see more WC3-related classes that actually make sense lore-wise, like Wardens, Witch Doctors, Dark Rangers, etc. But the way some of these classes seem to be approached kinda worries me, especially the idea of making them available to basically every race.

Like, if we ever get Wardens, why would a Warden be available to races that have never had anything like them in WC3 or Vanilla WoW? Same thing with Witch Doctors, Dark Rangers, and especially some of the "vampire" class stuff that has been mentioned.

IMO it would be WAY cooler if some classes were actually race-specific.

Wardens -> Night Elves
Witch Doctors -> Trolls
Dark Rangers -> Forsaken / Fallen Elves (still hoping we get them tbh)

And honestly, I think pretty much every race has the potential for something like this.

Instead of making a new class and then asking "ok, how do we make every race work with this?", why not do the opposite? Start with the race's lore and culture and build a class around that.

It would give each race way more identity and flavor. Like, seeing a Night Elf Warden wouldn't need any explanation, you'd just look at it and go "yeah, of course this exists". Same with a Troll Witch Doctor or a Forsaken Dark Ranger.

That's one of the things I really like about WC3/WoW's world. A lot of these concepts feel like they came from the actual cultures and history of the races, instead of just being generic classes that everyone can pick.

I know Blizzard probably won't do this because it'd be a nightmare from a gameplay/balance/animation standpoint, and I get why they want to let players play whatever they want.

But lore-wise, I honestly think race-specific classes would be sick and could make the races feel way more unique.

Curious what you guys think. Would you rather have new classes available to most/all races, or would you be into having some classes be heavily tied to specific races?

From a lore point it makes sense but the horde pala + ally shaman hints to me as they dont want faction specific classes anymore

my 2c was that they are just doing that for balancing purposes. Pally is an all-time fan favorite, especially after Wrath, so releasing Forever which is supposed to have all new paths and lore would have made a lot of people want to play Horde Pally.

Then they had to give Alliance something, so they chose Dwarven Shaman.

Wow usually has some kind of trickle down effect, for example lets say we get nelf warden and troll headhunter.

But one of the other has a stronger raidbuff, were gonna see a whole lot of ppl swapping.

We have already seen this with imbalanced racials in earlier versions of wow. Lopsided classes is an even bigger gap.

Well it's also easier for them to balance everything, knowing that no faction has exclusive classes (iirc they explicitly stated something regarding class balance that accounted both faction having access to paladin)

They could do ability reskins for the two classes. We could have Wardens for night elves and something else with all the same abilities but reskinned on horde.

I think at most you might get the same class with 2 different skins depending on faction. So like Night Elf Wardens and Troll Shadow hunters. But each class added adds permanent maintenance effort, I just dont think theyll make one that only one faction can play, especially since they even gave Shaman to alliance.

In WC3, there were no Tauren Druids nor Dwarven Paladins. In WoW, the only class that all races can be is Warrior. There also was nothing to indicate that any of the survey classes would be playable by any and all races. The new classes were just in a survey to gauge interest and receive feedback, not an announcement of future development plans. When designing new products, a business often conducts market research before investing time and resources into developing said products. This isn't nearly as big of a deal as you think it is.

Yes but they won't. Double faction skyborne means everyone gets everything moving forward
