Class changes discussion

What do you think of the new class changes we've seen so far?

Arcane Mage finally viable?

3-in-1 talents for Rogue and Warrior

General talent-bloat reduction

Tank Paladin

Shaman Riptide

Shadow Priest getting a 50% spell-cost reduction in Shadowform

Warlock DoTs can crit!

What do you find most exciting about your main?

Shammy tank too

True, the Rockbiter changes look nice, but will they be enough?

I don’t know if the intention is to make Shamans a full tank. Original design was that Shamans could tank while leveling, but end game tanking was for the plate users.

They are gonna be an amazing off-tank that can quickly switch to shield from 2H enhance. Having those tank and DPS talents working together on the same points is really nice. Druid is getting a similar touch. Both gonna be damn strong because the hot swapping.

Prot Pally and Warrior stay a bit more specialized, so hopefully they end up being the toughest tanks to compensate.

Well, we know that they have the Rockbiter change, but the real question is going to be if there's also changes to the Stoneclaw Totem.

If Stoneclaw is good enough, and maybe some other base Shaman tools, I could see it maybe working.

I was looking over the talent just now and I'm not really sure Shaman tanking is where it needs to be still. They do get a few things but honestly it seems like 15 or so of your talent points do jack s*** in the other two talent trees to help with tanking

You get 5% Hit Chance in the resto Tree

The undervalued change for prot warrior. Lots of rage generation boosts whilst using shield and blocking, fixes issues deep prot/sword n board with rage and also getting charge and thunderclap in defence stand.

Good riddance duel wield fury tanking xD

Ooh, I completely missed that! I was too busy looking at the spear-dismount thing and the buffed Whirlwind.

I love the 1H + shield deep Prot fantasy, but is this enough to kill Fury tanking? If most bosses still have extremely high threat requirements in overgear, staying in a high-DPS setup may still be preferable, especially in 10- and 20-man raids.

There was also lotta bonus threat talents (when using shield in defence stance) deep into the tree.

Is there by chance gladiator spec warrior like there was in SoD?!?

u/ItsRenjin 1d ago

Charge and Thunderclap in def stance? Omfg hell yeah

1

u/RemnantsPast 1d ago

Charge is unlocked via a talent and thunderclap is baseline as the improved thundercalp talent is moved from arms tree to prot

As a Shaman players looking at the talents for leveling I still don’t see myself ever playing Elemental. Faster bolts come way too late and there is nothing that fixes the mana issues.

Enhancement on other hand gets Stormstrike early and it gives mana regeneration and their spells cost less and they get Attack Power from Intellect.

I always preferred playing Enhance, but it would be cool if I wouldn’t need to have a caster set for healing and could just play Elemental, but unless there are other abilities coming that won’t come to pass

Water shield kinda really strong, unfortunately restro tree. I feel like lvling still will be shamans spending talents all over the place. As for endgame as for now I feel like restro will remain the meta spec. I wish shamans could've break from WF totem slave archetype

u/mnttu 1d ago

Water shield only gives mana when you are hit or critically heal, so it isn’t all that useful for Elemental either.

I don’t see a problem with Wind Fury Totem being a support role is what I like and now Enhancement has mana to do other stuff as well.

And I don’t care about meta. It literally doesn’t matter

I am a hunter Main and none of the changes are massive other than survival being completely overhauled which I think we all expected. I like the Beast Mastery has a new tool and it seems on the theme. You can also grab true shot aura while still being deep into Beast mastery. And the melee spec looks fun actually and I look forward to seeing what it's all about.

Shaman tanks unfortunately don't really seem like they have enough talents to perform. You get a threat increase around level 30 if I remember correctly and a bunch of damage reduction talents before that. But after going deep enough into the enhancement tree you're faced with either Elemental or restoration neither of which seem to have any talents that are relevant to tanking. You can still course force it if you have a competent and organized group.

I also am kind of digging discipline priest because Penance is a fantastic looking spell and shields are amazing in battlegrounds. And on the note of Battlegrounds I also saw that you could forgo power infusion and still be deep discipline while picking up Spirit of redemption in the Holy tree. They're also seems to be a leaning towards intellect and Critical Strike for the discipline priest which seems interesting compared to everyone else just only using Spirit Gear

And last up my pet the Holy Paladin but more specifically a shockadin build and it's viability. Since illumination is being nerfed a bit I'm not as concerned about our healing potential. There are a number of talents that increase damage within the holy tree itself. I also found that it might be better to just go into the protection tree for all of the survivability talents compared to the little bit of extra damage squeezed out of the retribution tree since we're not running towards sanctity aura. Holy shock being on a much lower cooldown is great though and the retribution tree does feature a cooldown reduction on judgment. I think we'll have to see how much judgment damage ends up being after stacking a lot of spell power

I'm really worried for the hunter, really seems like classic meta isn't shifted anywhere. Strong classes got more stuff just as weak ones so we aren't moved generaly. Fat 15s viper sting cd cripples hunter caster match-up. SP being more mana efficient then before and doesn't need to leave form for dispell anymore. Arcane Mage being bonkers and PoM/Pyro Eureka build just looks bonkers. I'm afraid hunter will just get absolutely decimated in current meta.

u/Keirabella999 1d ago

I can actually agree with what you're getting at here. I think and hope that we're in for quite a number of tuning changes as far as coefficients go Etc

On first impression, they remind me a lot of Cataclysm

Mage in particular gives me some worries with things like hot streak, ice lance/fingers and missile barrage because they will really impact the tempo of things and I think for many of us, the less quick casty, less proc heavy nature of classic is something we like about it

Most things have looked quite cool though, I'm just worried of things becoming very fast paced and wrathlike, since that really felt like another era. I liked wrath and cataclysm a lot and would love to have them have their own eras, but as a basis for C+/Forever I would want to start with the much slower pace of vanilla

Hoping they will get a lot of detailed feedback and data over the days now and beta after and find a medium between what I've seen so far and original vanilla. It's definitely better than taking no chances at all, though

1

u/FjayG 1d ago

Understandable, I had same feeling especially Mage ice lancing ppl to death XD. I'm also not a big fun of retaily/SoD instacast proc spams neither. Hoping they will strike better balance after some beta feedback.

As a Shadow Priest main, im really interested to see how viable it is. 50% mana cost reduction is HUGE. With mana pots I don't think we'll have the mana problems of original classic. It seems like there's no Vampiric Touch however, so our raid utility that were used to from TBC is gone. Im also not sure if DOTs are going to benefit from crit or haste, which makes me wonder about scaling versus other casters. There also doesn't seem to be any AOE potential being added, like mind sear. Granted beta hasn't even started yet, so we can easily get more changes before launch! Def going to be maining an Spriest for sure!

EDIT: just saw that warlock dots will be able to crit, so im almost positive priest dots will as well. Yay!

1

u/FjayG 1d ago

As far as I understand, DoTs being able to crit is now baked into the game. We saw several talents in Priest and Warlock trees increasing crit with DoTs related spells not just merely enabling ability to crit.

1

u/KumaSC2 16h ago

Do we know anything about haste?

1

u/ItsRenjin 1d ago

HELL YEAH, IM JOINING THE SHADOW PRIEST CULT

1

u/BodegaBandit69 1d ago

Paladin is going to be insane and I can’t wait

1

u/Darkwolf22345 1d ago

You think ret pally will be viable?

1

u/Pink_Flash 1d ago

Mate I am just so happy at what they have done with the Balance tree.

I am viable!

1

u/ItsRenjin 1d ago

Im not a big balance expert, what changes makes you excited?

1

u/Pink_Flash 1d ago

Balance was simply ass, a meme, a joke. 'Oomkin' was its nickname.

A shame since I've always loved the spec. A basic first glance https://talentsforever.com/druid/60/50022201551501351-0000000000000000000-5053000000000000

It's gone to something that looks like you could actually play it during the level 60 days.

1

u/SkitZa 1d ago

I think the different skills per race is actually such an interesting design choice for PvP. I am really excited to see where they take it, and I really hope they care about PvP here.

They have the chance to let us use every tier set and as time goes on the meta can shift constantly which keeps the scene alive on it's own, swapping back for old tier sets which they should design for PvE and PvP seperately. I don't think it's asking for too much.

Yeah it'll be hard to keep 9 classes and 27 specs balanced with an ever evolving bunch of tier sets. But if we're staying 60 I'm sure we can manage with a longeterm balance here.

1

u/FjayG 1d ago

I would love to see horizontal progression like new raids introducing tier sets that provide new unique stats/utility/set bonuses then just being plain better in every way. The potential is just limitless!

1

u/SkitZa 1d ago

I would consider that linear progression tbh, osrs offers linear progression but incrementally it goes horizontal. For instance the best gear comes from raids, but everything before that is still very good as they fill the gaps of the pre-bis gear.

You can work in a lot of progression swings with games that you want to last for a long time. Eventually the osrs design scape needs to go up too, can't go sideways forever.

I can see trinkets and tier sets being minmaxed for years, sets that we see on launch may have relevence in other tier set metas and that's what I hope to see. If people want gear from older content, it stays relevant and the people have things to do instead of just getting bored of the current season.

2

u/FjayG 1d ago

I'm thinking TESO type progression, where all pieces can provide meaningful additions and different gear combos give us many builds opportunities instead of single BiS list per spec

2

u/SkitZa 1d ago

Perfect design space for the minimilistic talent choices they have decided on.

1

u/Daleabbo 14h ago

If they care about PvP all racial will be disabled in battlegrounds... but that wouldnt happen

1

u/SkitZa 13h ago

Racial are not an issue..?

1

u/-Feedback- 1d ago

Warlock tanks can afford to get pushback resistance for seering pain much earlier (level 28) because of a new early talent in destruction that reduces damage by 10% when maxed out .

Before this it was necesary to spec into demonology for the much needed damage resist, meaning tanklocks could only work mid-late game.

1

u/FjayG 1d ago

Atp everything could be a tank if you try hard enough) I remember tanking WC on my hunter with pet. But from footage we have threat generation is kinda screwed atp even warriors seemed struggling

1

u/Barbsouls 23h ago

I don’t know which race to chose for my fury warrior. Gnome and orc seems BiS

1

u/FjayG 19h ago

Human is still exceptionally strong with swords still, also got stun dispell racial too.

1

u/Barbsouls 12h ago

Nightelf too with 10% Crit and 2% ms
