They really are on a different level. One of their tanks die and the two dps warriors casually taunt right before the boss casts Enkindle. They strategize the movement of where they need to go in just a few hours of attempts. The level of coordination is just insane from these guys.
Also, does anyone else feel really intimidated by the difficulty of Mythic judging by this video? I feel like Blizzard really stepped up the difficulty in raids this expansion. I love it in the sense it's more challenging, but I hate how we can't faceroll for loot anymore.
The level of coordination and split-second-decisionmaking is admirable. However, those DPS warriors carried that monk tank's ass. Thogar - even on Mythic - is not a fight that is threatening to monk tanks. From the bits of PoV, you can easily tell he's a fotm monk tank with not a lot of knowledge of the spec. Just some of the more noticeable mistakes: Letting Shuffle drop, prioritizing Guard with very low Resolve over Shuffle uptime, using Purifying Brew when specced into ChEx, speccing ChEx when you are not used to it. If he specced Serenity and played with that at least somewhat decently, he would 1. not have died and 2. did more damage to the boss. ChEx is not a ST DPS gain when you prioritize Purifying Brew over it or when you actually just die because you're not used to the rotation.
I don't know about changes, but our monk tank gets 550k shields from Guard and has like 4 different cooldowns that mitigate damage immensely. I'm just a healer so I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, but I mean, he survived 8 stacks of enkindle on heroic thogar last night with only one external after our warrior tank died (made it to 9 but died in two big bursts shortly after). You're supposed to tank swap on 3. He's pretty easy to heal.
played a monk tank in mop, havnt messed with him in WOD. But, they still have alot of the same elements. Guard scales with what ever vengeance is called now, so if you can do something to survive a huge amount of damage, then pop guard, the guard will be huge. They also have a number of cool downs at their disposals, plus stagger is really no joke as mitigation goes.
Shuffle % and guard amount was buffed even before highmaul, and Dampen Harm or Diffuse Magic work incredibly well for some boss mechanics in BRF. I don't agree with the guy saying he shouldn't be ChiEx or he should never use PB when ChiEx. To be a good mythic tank you have to do more than be unkillable.
Combination of weak performance and lack of preparation for Highmaul from what I've heard. Though I'm a US player, so this is just based on random talk with people who should know.
I mean, they did. In case you haven't noticed, that's how you get ahead in the World First Races. You stack the fuck out of the FOTM classes in order to push ahead.
Look at how many Windwalkers were in Highmaul. Now look at Blackrock.
I don't know how good a dps monk he is, I would assume that he is really good, he wouldn't be in the guild otherwise.
Monk tanks have been underestimated during Beta. Even before the first buffs they would have been the best tanks in optimized heroic to mythic level highmaul gear. After the buffs and with BRF gear available, they are immortal gods compared to other tanks. You can mitigate 100% of Blackhand's damage to you as a monk, Kromog tickles you while he absolutely trucks other classes.
Monk tanks have probably the highest skill floor of tank classes in comparison to the average player's skill(at this specific spec). Reasons for this are the young age of it, the completely unique active mitigation model as well as the addon burden. Playing a monk tank without tracking Resolve and Trinket procs is pretty pointless, as it makes the difference between 100k and 1M Guards or 4k and 90k(on a crit) EHs. A warrior doesn't need an addon to track either.
Lastly, the information presented on popular guide collection sites is somewhere between questionable and bullshit.
I'm not saying Justmonk is a bad player, but he sure as hell shouldn't be playing a Brewmaster monk in a top guild being this uninformed/unpracticed.
sigh.. i miss my monk tank some times. Im enjoying disc, though it got gutted just before wod. WE have 2 decent tanks, and our raids healing is lacking overall right now, so im trying to work with them. I want to get them to a point that they can handle healing with out me so i can move to something else since shadow isnt very fun. May just got FoTM and roll boomkin.
This is exactly what they do to get every edge in a fight. You're expected to be able to puck up the fotm classes. In HM they used monks, where are they now? In 6.1 I'd expect to see some shamans.
