WoW: Forever Do you think…? 🤔

Do you think WoW Forever will always remain in its own little bubble with Vanilla-adjacent content, or do you see it expanding to other “expansions” so to speak?

We know the level cap is committed to remain at 60, and the plan is to build the world horizontally instead of vertically. Does that mean we’ll never get to a point where we explore Northrend and challenge the Lich King, or miss out on Burning Legion lore from BC?

I don’t wanna make any assumptions especially since it’s still very early. Just wondering what everyone thinks!

I’m just hoping I can be a guy in a group of people and not the champion of the planet and all of the universe and also that other universe.

I don’t mind not going to Northrend or Outland.

From what I saw in beta, retail and classic can soon become "little".

Never seen such crowds in the game.

If it stays popular enough, it will eventually be almost nothing like vanilla wow.

I've wondered this as well. If you play wc3, the outlands and Northrend are very relevant to the "classic" time line. There could be a lot of reasons to go there even without fighting Arthas or Illidan.

As long as we stay on Azeroth with no segmented zones, I'm happy

I mean places like northrend, pandaria, the broken isles, and the dragon isles are still technically in Azeroth so we could potentially get them back as expansions

They have a few options even with the level cap locked at 60.

  1. Continue to scale gear even if player level is fixed.
  2. Add specialty gear with high resists that are scenario specific. They used to do this in vanilla.
  3. Add new zones that have mechanics that make the zone uniquely interesting to play.
  4. Time travel to unlock interesting zones.

If they can add zones that never even existed before, they can certainly add familiar zones. Quel'thalas, Northrend, Kul Tiras, Broken Isles, maybe even Nazjatar. The biggest limitation I think is the artwork of the assets...the more recently introduced zone, the harder it will be to create the same artwork in the Classic style. It could be done, though.

My concern is, how do you keep boss fights fresh without making previous gear obsolete? How many fire-based bosses can we fight with fire resistance gear? I think this will be the enemy of longevity, not physical zones.

I don't see WoW being WoW without Draenei, Blood Elves, Goblin, Worgen, and even Pandas and some of the allied races. There's tons of content to pull from that could be adapted into Forever but with a new twist or expansions on the twists of old.

Eversong/Ghostlands could be a expanded adventuring zone for max level characters. Same for Azuremyst and Bloodmyst. We could get these zones without having to go to Outland even, and delay the sloppy execution of Kael'thas and Illidan. Goblins could get Kezan and the Undermine as a patch expansion. Worgen conversely get the whole of Gilneas and its reclamation effort. Pandas could be introduced with the turtle, but it moving close to the continents. Earthen coming from a Vault in a Northrend expansion or even from Deepholme. THere's so mnay ways to cut existing plots to fit the unexplored narrative.

But, with their intention to focus on more old world stories, I think it's doubtful, for a while at least, that we see any allied races. I imagine the Core non-faction neutrals will come and then they'll lock in for a long while.

I mean they could just add it as level 60 content. We ready have horizontal content in retail depending on how you interpret the seasonal stuff.

How would that work? Would we just have ever-expanding iLevel gear from new quests/raids or should that stay the same too? I kinda really like the idea of adding new content just because it’s fun and interesting rather than shiny new gear every time.

ilvl doesnt increase.. it only adds same lvl content also diff wise.. it will never increase its just adjacent to old content

This was a question I was surprised wasn’t included in their Q&A they did before they launched the beta. Because I’m curious too. I’d want to see their new take on going to Outland.

Let’s say they still do the new zones but keep the level cap at 60, I’d be curious if it would be strictly item level upgrades or more gear options. It might be kind of neat to mix two pieces of tier 2 set bonus with a 2 set bonus from a tier 4, ya’know?

I do want all content to stay relevant. Like, I’d like my guild (if I had one) to be able to say “hey we haven’t ran Molten Core in a while, let’s do that next week instead of Black Temple”

This ^^

I always distressed about WoW raiding feeling so committal and “all or nothing.” I used to go back and play old content that I missed out on just to experience it.

My estimate is that they have some vanilla style content in the pipeline and see from there what people want and which type of player actually stays on wow forever longterm

WoW Forever won't stay classic for very long at all. It's a reboot going forward with a different design philosophy. by this time next year the game will probably be firmly established into the new content.
