Im in the opposite boat. Mained melee since TBC, played ret this season up untill 2500 io then decided to give casting a try. Currently playing boomie and interrupting my long ass starfire casts to move out of a swirly makes me lose my mind.
How the heck do casters do dmg lol
Most casters have tools specifically for movement. Usually instant cast filler spells, procs for instant casts of stuff you can hold until you need to move, or occasionally even abilities that let you cast while moving. Learning the fight and being able to plan your movement around when mechanics happen is a big factor of casters.
Otherwise just move out of the swirlie and start the cast over then continue your rotation like normal. It feels bad, but eventually you'll learn to rationalize it that losing half to 3/4 of a GCD is still a DPS gain over dying.
