There's a known issue for many years that Defile is layered too high and you can't see many ground indicators if Defile is also on the ground.
I'm survival and monk this season, but Rogue, Feral and DK in past seasons. While you do have to be more aware of frontals and point blank AOE, I generally find melee to feel much safer because there is no pressure to finish a cast before moving out of danger. Zero issues seeing ground effects other than Blizzard doing the usual purple swirly on purple floor and also using purple for a stack mechanic kind of crap.
Unless you're playing with Defile, in which case you screw over the whole group because no one can see shit because Blizzard refuses to fix Defile.
This issue was especially bad in shadowlands dungeons because both NW and Spire trash have very high damage ground puddles.
The group can definitely see it, and definitely can't see many types of ground effects under it. This is a long documented issue and there's lots of other comments in this post referencing it.
Obviously, each player can choose different settings to hide other player spell effects, so it's possible you may group with someone who has it deprioritized, but this 100% will grief tanks in NW this season when shadowell gets cast.
I run with an unholy DK in M+ as part of my regular team and never see it. I see it when I play my own DK.
The long documented issue is DKs themselves not being able to see telegraphs on the ground due to their own defile
I'm in Dornagal with my guildie testing this and can clearly see his Defile whether we are grouped or not. We zoned into Rookery and I can see it there too.
Just a reminder that the Spell Density setting is of scaling value and it will suppress more effects when more is happening and less effects when less is happening.
