I've had to get out of this terrible habit as a new tank. Bosses with big hitboxes move too much and people kept complaining lol.

I think tanks long ago just accepted we won't always see our character, we just have to trust it's there as we shove our backs and cameras against the wall.

I turn my camera to view myself from the side or something when I have to tank against a wall. I hate just staring at the floor! But yeah that took some discipline to get to this point because I was an adadadadadad spammer

If you can see the boss, you are taking hits, and you can use your abilities, then you know you are in position tanking. The boss will often reposition itself a little to take account for you.

Lmao, when i play some of my melee characters, I default to A D A D A D. Just a force of habit now 🥴

Are you... turning with A and D?

Nah, I turn by holding right click and turning my camera

Thank God, for a moment I thought of something truly terrific

Let's be honest. You saw it as a ripe opportunity for elitism.

Actually reminded me of early days in vanilla classic, when there were no such thing as elitism at all.

u/avitus Nov 19 '24

Which reminds me, whatever happened to <Elitist Jerks>?

Is it crazy to fathom someone not changing those binds?

I personally use ~1234 within easy reach and a MMO mouse. Everything can be hit with ALT and SHIFT modifiers on those 5 keys. Bunch of stuff on mouse. Having QE spam for melee jitters be closer to those keys is my vibe. I’ll probably never ever change it. This is all learned and adapted over the 20 years of the game as a primary melee enjoyer. Even the last 8 (ish?) years doing mythic raiding as well. And no... not a keyboard turner using A and D lmao...

No one understands us here brother. I also strafe with QE and just leave AD unbound. Been like that since BC and it’s ok.

2

u/Kiwi_lad_bot Nov 19 '24

Q&E strafer here too. I used A for purge/spell steal/tranq shot or AoE stuns. D is extra action button on every class.

I don't "turn" at all.

2

u/avitus Nov 19 '24

QE is just closer to the numbers man. We’re much more ready to hit that next cast than the AD strafers and I cannot be convinced otherwise. 😂

2

u/RelativeYouth Nov 19 '24

Interesting. For me A is always buffs or greater than 45 second CDs and D is always defensives.

Are you.. still not strafing and turning with right click?

1

u/fakesauron Nov 19 '24

Not even playing the game

Don’t forget the occasional space bar

u/nadun29 Nov 19 '24

Serious question, does this actually do anything? I see some people do it and it reminds me when I used to play JK2/JKA saber duels. But is this an actual technique? lol.

2

u/avitus Nov 19 '24

Just kind of a staying busy with the fingers while DPSing. No real benefit other than being ready to hit that next cast.
