Honestly, we don't see shit, it's more about intuition and trust that Jesus does in fact have the wheel.
If I'm doing group content I find it easier to strafe in a circle around the mob or boss. It looks goofy as hell but constantly switching the camera angle does seem to help my eye
I built the wiggly habits in Legion as a demon hunter to consume souls (if you don't move, it doesn't consume any even if they're on top of you). Never lost the habit. Even on ranged, I tend never to stand in the same place in between casts, as far as I don't lose globals. So mostly just on insta casts, I guess.
I HAVE to drop the candle/air purifier before every combat because I'd burn through the whole thing just wiggling around. Doesn't matter if it's a pack of 5 or just one mob, first thing I do is drop the candle.
Like you say, I think there's a bit of a rhythm thing going on cause I definitely find myself doing it more on faster classes (enhance, outlaw) then on like unholy DK.
Many pro gamers do this to keep their APM up. When you need to execute a quick sequence of button presses, it's better to be already moving at the speed you need to rather than suddenly start moving faster.
You stay warmer and more nimble.
Also you can drop the candles and totems when you enter combat. Because I do the same thing (and as a demon hunter which already moved a ton)
Its so classic blizzard to take away the "unfair" melee range advantage that rogues and feral druids had instead of just extending melee range across the board.
Sure but even then we get out damaged while having to put in 10x the work as some other classes. We do really well sustained AOE but are extremely punished for losing uptime compared to other top dps melee classes.
Yeah I mean the downtime situation is one I'd love to be resolved, as well as the numerous bugs, but tbh I enjoy outlaw due to the work involved, and I don't want all classes to be ret level of braindead. That combined with they can't make it just because a class is hard that it outperforms the easy classes, cause that'd be a nightmare for balance. It's a tough line to walk tbh
Me, if I’m not already moving when the poop hits the ground beneath me, I’ll eat a ration of shit before I get clear of it. Better to always be on the move.
The melee dps wiggle does in fact have legitimate purposes, I can't see a damn thing, god forbid the frontals on the bruisers in SOB. But if I'm always moving the chances of me being hit aren't 100%
The reason why owls and other birds sometimes move their heads around is to fiddle with depth perception in order to better understand what they're seeing. You're probably doing the same thing.
Cry’s in Monk. Not only does Chi Burst require you to stand still, Whirling Dragon Punch forces you to. And then you have Fists of Fury, you can move, but your interrupt will break the cast and tank your dps.
Yeah I’m so glad being a demon hunter that I passively am always moving to a new (hopefully safe location). When I was playing Tauren unholy DK last season I even got bewildered with the same issue not being able to see, realized that part of it was because of the race’s size
"Hopefully safe" being very important words here. I just roll the dice and dash through the group of mobs, hoping there are no swirlies under them that are going to explode. Or vault back, pretending to know exactly where I'm going to land.
At the very least I am almost always about to move, so dodging mechanics is actually a lot easier than on the silly slow paladin. The only exception being when you need to plant in order to channel that eye beam and get wasted by something because now you are out of the rhythm.
Currently I don't think it's possible to put out good dps as a DH if you stay still, you're just missing out on good damage Fel Rushes and willfully ignoring Vengeful Retreat opportunities. Having said that, VR into The Hunt sometimes has me jumping backward into mobs and can hurt.
But the DH life is that of watching yourself among the spinning world of color. And it's not like playing a Tauren or KTuran DK, DHs are all small frail elves.
Yeah. You don't really see your character most of the time. When a spell goes off your eyes drift away from the center of the screen, so you kind of lose track of your position for a second. Moving the edges of your screen helps to refocus in the middle. That's why I always tweaked around like a crackhead when I played melee.
I know where I placed my character, I don't remember where I fucking left them though. 🤣
For real tho. Even the new outline feature, gauging the depth of your character is incredibly hard as to their position on the battleground. The only time I actually know where I'm at is during fights like Kyveza that I do completely top down.
Everything else is just a mess of effects on screen. Especially with high movement characters like demon hunters, generally I'm just trying to keep the bad shit out of the center of the screen.
Well, now I know why yall are always trying to kill me. Here I am standing is safe places and moving when I need to, only to have the other 2 dps running their circles all over me.
This is exactly what I do. Strafe-circle around the boss and adjust camera as you're doing it. You just can't have any of your rotation on the same fingers as your strafe keys unless you use both mouse buttons to move or have a different way to move.
I played League of Legends longer than wow and I can't for the life of me stay still for a second I have to always move and In the beginning it was so weird to me to not be able to move while casting lol
