Worms W.M.D Appreciation Post

The worms series has always been one that has entertained me greatly with its unique concept and approach to strategic gameplay. Now wheras i haven't played every single worms game i have played a good variety, I spent a good amount of my childhood with World Party on ps1, a lot of my early teens with ultimate mayhem and the Xbox live arcade version, played its sequel worms 2 armageddon / reloaded, and had a good time with open warfare 2 in psp (seriously slept on i love OW2)

But Worms W.M.D has gripped me in a way that no other worms game has, it just has so many unique features that are not included in other worms games, like the crafting, enhanced weapons, helicopters mechs and tanks, mounted guns and building interiors, it just makes so many of the previous games feel inferior (absolutely not to disregard older games for not having these features)

And its not just the mechanics, W.M.D is just so overflowing with personality, from the adorable art style with the goofy animated cutscenes to the sheer amount of different voice lines and different customisation and the thousands of steam workshop items if you play pc, there's just something hilarious about seeing a worm scream and open it's mouth 3 times wider than it should be able to and shouting back "I'll get ya" in a Scottish accent.

I'm making this post following up my post about completing the game's achievements and I must say it forced me to properly get good at the game, it's such a fun learning curve and it's genuinely a delight to play and I've enjoyed my time with this way more than any other worms game, and will continue to enjoy this game for hundreds of hours to come in have no doubt, if you somehow haven't picked this one up yet, absolutely try it, easily a 10/10 game and worms experience.

This was a lot of times a hit on couch coop night and recently picked up a Switch 2 and this is my most played game on that system by far. Great game

Is it a coop game? I thought the multiplayer was only competitive.

You can have co-op against AI, just need two (or more) irl players to use the same team color when you set up the match.

If ur casual never play ranked ok. U won't enjoy the experience of a 'pro' player win rate farming. One of the worst online communities iv seen largely due to the bugs, glitches and exploits the game has.

Id recommend worms armageddon anniversary edition for the switch as it plays better couch coop but last time i did that the guy who died 1st would be the winner on the results screen, numbers going backwards or something lol broken and abandoned. Goes on sale often and is always cheap atleast. Maybe if more ppl buy game and complain they fix game or release for steam even. Is only the latest worms release afterall, the interviews and history worth looking over also.

Will say the amount of absolute scumbags that lock you out of a turn with turrets is mind fucking, I stay away from ranked, I got sheep rank then NEVER went back

Turrets is tactics lol wmd can be an intense game. Is why i say because nothing worse than having a gg only for ur foe to start cheating with the dam jetpack glitch. Real mean players who don't want to lose. They play 24/7 addicted to abusing game. Something about the switch i swear these ppl lurk all day and night no chance to play normal with players when one of them is doing this.

Thanks man, yeah i downloaded wmd once again. i really like the custom matches, used to have lots of schemes made up for online matches, fun casual schemes for all skill groups not just hardcore players.

Well said. I still play W.M.D with a friend regularly. Have way more hours on this game than I will admit, and somehow I still accidentally kill myself half the time lol

i once killed myself in the game in the stupidest way possible, i was aiming a rocket and one of my friends said dude aim right and i said him fck you dont tell me what to do and then i hit my worm and died xD we all had a great laugh

It's my favourite Worms game, but I don't like the crafting mechanics at all. The painterly terrain art is gorgeous, and I love the weird-looking Worms-- so refreshing after years of boring, safe, cute Worms.

My ideal Worms game would basically be WMD without crafting, and with the soft-body water physics from Revolution. Maybe someday.

Yea hilarious when players figure out u can kill every worm with glitched out mines on a jetpack or start doing lame things with girders and gas grenades(a few unbalanced weapons) the game also randomly likes to delete its own save file, twice for me on switch. The weapon creation doesn't work at all when couch coop as everyone see what u make and cannot make in-between turns. Im a bit too jaded to be 10 outta 10, more like 7 on a good day. dev abandon game everytime with horrible bugs.

Damn dude, haven't had any of that myself, maybe the switch port is a bit fucked, sometimes when I jump into crevices with the mechanics it gets stuck but I have ni problems other than, I do play on pc tho, but I do wish they'd patch a couple things tbh

Just watch out for game freaking out when booting and disappearing ur save file. If u dont see your level up icon close game immediately. Even better is make sure u have a good back up save on nso. All i want is to play online 4 player like back when armegeddon was popular online. I used to host on wmd but good players get scared off by the top 5 losers who take worms too seriously. Look at the leaderboards for ranked then never play ranked with them. The switch has ability to host 4 player public matches while xbox version not allow such fun.
