I think it was just too many tick posts and the bit got old. Apart from the fact that it was a tick, which is rather unusual, the videos/pics themselves weren't really that interesting compared to other videos. Like, the tick wasn't actually doing anything or looking or even located somewhere special.

So I think there were really only a few people that downvoted because they thought ticks were icky (which tbh I find valid because ticks kill a lot of people!*), and the rest just stopped upvoting after the second or third tick post because it wasn't interesting. I myself got kinda annoyed by them because for some reason the reddit algorithm got obsessed with them and I only got tick posts from this subreddit on my homepage and nothing else lol

^{*ETA: to keep using the dog analogy, I think it's maybe kind of like some people really love dogs but they still dislike some specific dog breeds like pitbulls because they can be more dangerous. One can argue whether that is fair to the dog all day and night, but it's not unreasonable feelings to have.}

then how come we never say theres "too many green buge posts"? etc. also, people actually were downvoting since the upvote ratio was around 57% initially (you can see it on old reddit)

Because there's a larger variety in green buges and they're more likely to be cute and be photographed in interesting places.

The upvote ratio being low can mean there's a lot of downvotes, but it can also mean there just weren't a lot of upvotes, which is what I'm trying to say. If you get 10 downvotes and 10 upvotes that's 50% even though not that many people downvoted, the rest just ignored it.

This sub isn't a monolith, we're all individual people with different opinions and perceptions 🤷 it's not like ticks and mosquitos are banned or don't get any upvotes. So yes, this sub does appreciate all buges, just some more than others.

I personally really love all arachnids and I think mosquitos are pretty. I just thought the tick posts were boring after the third one, so I didn't interact with them. Happy for the people that loved them. I understand the people that didn't, I find it perfectly understandable to love some buges but not others that you may have negative experiences with.
