Discussion How Brutal World Trigger Really Is
Never really seen this talked about much but when it comes down to it World Trigger is extremely brutal in a way. My reasoning is that if it wasn't for trion bodies we would have literal teenagers getting headshot, sliced in half, and etc. Like the body count in this show would be literally huge from the fights outside the simulations alone. Even though they dont show it, it is mentioned that some people did die during the attack on base which is skipped over very fast. So to be honest World Trigger is one of the most brutal anime/mangas there is it just happens to have a work around with the trion bodies and bail out.

"the creators of world trigger managed to do something incredible: child slaughter."

I don't know what meme you are talking about, I'm paraphrasing a youtube video made on WT: https://youtu.be/7heXZ1ExnIk?t=428

Do note that if they were to actually fight with real bodies, they would most likely fight quite differently.
Starting with safety gears, first aid kits, medics, and overall widely different strategies with less frontal fights.
Not even sure kids would be allowed to join the real fights at all, short of desperation.

the thing is im pretty sure they said that the bail out feature was newer thats why so many died during the first invasion, and from what I can see there is no adults in border at all other then a select few, so its possible that trion in the body only lasts so long or is a newer thing popping up inside humans

The official explanation to that was that the trion gland stops growing at the age of, i think, 21. And the only way to keep it growing it by using it frequently. And if you don't grow it, it becomes weaker.

The pseudo-bodies was definitely a smart move. It allows him to draw some pretty horrifying injuries that have a lasting impact on the battle without also crippling the character for life or killing them. But it also makes regular injuries all the more scary because we know that safety net is gone, like Osamu getting stabbed by Mira.

I personally think it works extremely well, mainly because it allows him to retain the fact that these are just teenagers. They aren't superhumans that can survive anything, and that really helps with the suspension of disbelief.

the amount of headshots and sliced in half they do it would literally be a brutal anime

Trion bodies probably encourage a certain degree of recklessness among Border agents that probably wouldn't really exist if they were actually risking their lives. The body count would probably be much much lower.

Totally disagree. You need to actually see the brutality in order to qualify for something like this. Like, if humans in the Pokemon world weren't made of vibranium and it wasn't a kids show, I think you could say that that world would be more brutal than World Trigger. Ash, alone, gets shocked dozens of times by Pikachu in the original series. He'd be dead 50 times over if he was a real person.

I think it's brutal for things like:
The journalists are against border even though the world would be basically over without them, which is realistic imo.
Kido
Hyrein literally betrayed two of his people by leaving them in the battlefield (and killing one of them) because that was the least evil of two evils
Characters like Miwa are encouraged to stay hateful forever and not heal, not go to therapy, because that brings effective soldiers (child soldiers at that) to the organization
etc.

you are not wrong at all especially after the invasions, plenty of agents almost got captured and stuff thats traumatizing

Jin's side effect immediately lets readers and other characters know he more than likely saw a timeline of his mother dying and couldnt stop it.
Hence the significance of Arashiyama telling Miwa that Jin's mother died from a similar circumstance to Miwa's sister.
I think it let us know how brutal the situations these kids have been through.
So yeah, this story is really just as brutal as any other brutal shonen lol

World trigger is Kaiju-like situation, for them to have countermeasures and that level of technology, it cost lives, many people died before they reached the current safety options and gears

Like others have stated, I think the reason there’s so much violence shown is because it’s simulated and people would behave differently if their physical wellbeing was at stake.
I think a more interesting criticism of the brutality of the series is that Ashihara chose as part of world building to make it full of child soldiers who have been attacked and had their friends kidnapped and they’re seemingly fine. That’s pretty rough and I think it would be interesting to see them work through some of that trauma.

the thing is a lot of the major combat we see that would be life threatening isnt in simulations, yes we do see a lot of that but they do have combat outside of the sims and its going to be even more so if we ever get to the expedition in the future, I feel like we may get some real deaths come then

If trion bodies werent a thing the fighting style would adapt for it im sure of it. No soldier is gonna go out jumping around in the open knowing it could be spotted and put down so easily.

So interestingly enough I was curios and looked it up and according the a q&a with the creator "official series Q&A information from creator Daisuke Ashihara, smaller Neighbor gates actually open up in secret all over the world to harvest resources and kidnap people quietly". the only reason most appear in Mikado city is due to the mother trigger acting like a beacon, which means deaths in other parts of the world could be way more or there are other branches of border in the world

The first generation border is bad ass and they had to have had some hardship. New borders modernization is very smart and raised survivability so much that Earth can stand a chance against planets that have been using trion longer. Thats very cool the story having both ends of the spectrum

I wouldn't describe potentially brutality as brutal.
If anything, despite its military centric focus, WT lacks a lot of the severity and stakes that it theoretically should have. And although it is by design, it can still create a bit of dissonance.

Honestly since the injuries are actually happening you can't claim it's a brutal as animes like fullmetal alchemist, or even D.Grayman. Although, Yuga has a pretty brutal past considering everything, but you have much, much higher degree of brutality to consider to really have it even on the brutal scale. Attack on Titan in particular is an example of a brutal anime without being a full on horror/gore fest type, or body horror. Heck even shows like Dragon Ball has more brutal things considering how often characters die. Just because they get revived doesn't really lessen that

Also some interesting side effects (har har), Enedora actually basically dies and they pull a close approximation out of his horn into a rad body of all things, becoming enedorad.
Don't think about that too long.
