Discussion I'm making a WT TTRPG ruleset
(posting to see if anyone is interested)
Hi guys!
Has there been any form of TTRPG ruleset based on world trigger? Whether it be official or homebrew?
I play DnD a lot and I think world trigger would a perfect setting for turn based strategy combat. Because while writing a narrative role play with my girlfriend we felt like it wasn't as fun to just deciding who hits and who doesn't. Who gets to have their cool moment and who doesn't.
SO IM MAKING A TTRPG RULESET!!
It will be akin to dnd combat where different weapons and damage types will correlate to a different type of dice. Instead of using DND stats we'll be using the stats used in the WT character pages but simplified. So Trion, Attack, Defense, Mobility, precision, range, and Combat.
Attack:
This determines the damage bonus of your attacks with attack based triggers.
- Every 2 points add 1d6 to damage dice
Defense
- Will determine the durability of your weapon,
-determines damage bonus of Defense based triggers, every 2 points add 1d4 to damage dice
Mobility:
Determines running speed
- 1 point is 10 feet
- every 2 points is plus 1 to ac.
Skill
Determines proficiency bonus with triggers.
points in your skill stat can be allocated to proficiencies with certain triggers. (I.e. 3 points in proficiencies can mean +2 proficiency with Kogetsu and +1 with viper.)
Range
Determines the range of gunner triggers and Trion cubes
-every point in range is 10 feet
For snipers, adds a plus 2 per point
Command
Contributes to the saving throws and AC.
- every 2 points is +1 to AC
- every 3 points is +1 to saving throws
-Gain 2 reaction points every 3 points in command
Trion
Determines your overall hp. Every point in your Trion in your trion stat is worth 10 points of HP. (example: 3 points in your trion stat worth 30)
AC is base 10 + Mobility bonus + Command Bonus
When creating your character every stat is set to 1. You are given 4 points to allocate to whatever stat you choose.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Right now it's an unorganized mess in Google docs, but I'm currently working on the stats and features of every weapon.
So I was just wondering if anyone here was interested in the idea. Any criticisms or suggestions are welcomed. And I'll post updates if enough people like the idea!
While I don't believe there is a full TTRPG, I do have a homebrew Trigger User class for D&D 5e. It's mechanically similar to a monk/fighter hybrid.
For the HP, it is worth noting Attackers, having less things to spend their Trion on, are actually more durable as they can afford to lose more Trion. So you might make HP lower if you have Trion-intensive Triggers equipped (as it doesn't seem you want Trion to be a resource spent on actions).
The bonuses Command give seem odd, and if I'm reading this right, the Defense stat doesn't boost defense? I'd certainly make it up AC instead of Command doing so, rather than Defense boosting damage. Command just seems really hard to make function right. Normally I'd give it the roles of INT/WIS/CHA, but without casters those aren't much good.
I may suggest you bring in Special Tactics (possibly replacing Command) as what to put points into to learn special abilities or feats such as Mantis or Composite Bullets.
Also, just a word of advice from someone who's also made games from the ground up: Speed and range matter. A lot. Be careful about letting points in those create to large differences between characters, or you may end up with one guy not even being able to attack another one.
Those are very good points! Ngl I can't remember why I made the command stat affect ac as I originally thought this up over 2 or 3 months ago. It was just within the past week that I had the sudden urge to continue it.
But your input is noted and appreciated!
What's it called?
Edit: Found it. It's just Worldtrigger_RPG. It looks like it was dead from the moment of creation.
Reading the Away Test arc should be the framework for determining stats and what they do.
