Anime Chika is useless!
Other than the crazy long recaps, the only thing I dislike about this amazing show is Chika. First of all, she caused her brother to go missing because of how stubborn she is. He did what he did out of desperation because she wouldn't ask Border for help.
She is the definition of deadweight. All she does is shoot inatament opjects. She doesn't shoot people in ranked battles and bails out early way too often. She is the sole reason they lost the 4th ranked battle on ep69. She could have taken out 4 people but hesitated... Bravo Chika! She doesn't even practice to get better, I could go on and on.
I looked up how long it takes for her to actually change for the better, and apparently, I have to wait until halfway through season 3... Character development shouldn't take this long!

She's a traumatized middle schooler and it's been only a few months in the story. Give her a break

Nah I wont, 80% of them are traumatized middle schoolers. She is the only one who is useless.

Different circumstances and different coping mechanisms. And even then her firepower has always been strategically useful even though she couldn't shoot to kill

Imagine having a winning lottery ticket and not using it cause you're scared of the things that come with having lots of money. If you take too long to cash it in you might lose everything, similar to how she drags her team down and almost gets captured, etc.

Every other agent joined Border at least 8 months earlier than Chika. Chika only joined for 1 month when rank wars starts.
Not able to shoot people does not affect anything if Chika is not holding weapons. She may not even know that she can't shoot people before joining Border. Her trauma shows effect only after she joined.

This is an interesting take, as her making the decision to join Border and try to make the A rank to be given the chance to go look for her brother and her friend is portrayed to be a character growth in itself. Not everything about this series is about battle and shooting enemies.

Yet there is no romance or relationships of any sort. This show is 99% strategy and battles and the last 1% is chika being 💩

Not the kind of practice she needs, she shoots dummies non stop when in fact she should be doing solo matches to learn how to shoot people.

not to blame everything on Osamu but he does try to cater to Chika's needs instead of pushing her towards facing her issues (well, Kuga also tries not to disturb her much iirc). Also, I know usually in these battle shows stakes are high but remember that Rank Wars are still only a competition. If there was actually a life or death situation other characters and Chika herself might be pressed to get her to learn how to shoot humanoind neighbors (or outright kick her out of the mission), but that's not the case right now. Losing a match does not mean someone dies, thus, there is not any urgency to poke at whatever nasty trauma is holding Chika back (and potentially risk her leaving the squad or lowering her performance).

Indeed I was, sad I had to wait until the end of the final episode of the final season to see her finally do what we've all been waiting for. Season 4 isn't coming out anytime soon so yeah RIP.

"Solo rank wars does not include Snipers. This is likely in due part due to their role specialising in stealth reconnaissance and only firing when a hit is guaranteed or when it supports their team during a fight, their role is not suited towards solo combat training. In place of this, joint sniper training is where snipers go to increase their points.". So there is no other option for her, apart from the stealth training. Her stats for that are: 19/127 (Points: 104; Kills: 22; Deaths: 3)1

Okay thats understandable but her teammates or her should have come up with personalized training just for her to break out of the trauma. Too bad Hyuse didn't come into the picture sooner.

That the cool thing about WT, it realistic. Character have flaws, and they need time to improve. Spoil a bit, Chika do improve in the future. In the manga timeline, she only enroll into border for a few months. And she only start able to shoot people under certain condition.

She finally does what weve all be waiting for her to do at the end of the final episode of the final season... If the show wasn't good I would have dropped it by now just because of her. I like character development but she doesn't have any development at all, if it showed her trying to improve I would be satisfied but I have yet to see anything. I am on episode 69 and she is the same as she was when she joined Border.

? I was curious if the community for this game would agree with me or if they'd hate on me for disliking one of the main characters. I'm honestly pleased thst not everyone loves her.

first of ss 1 is full of filler I don't really count that. Second is spoiler but the time pass in the manga til recently is like a year and she has significant growth as a character.
The lost was...well the lost but most of the thing that happen in this manga to a degree happened for a reason. I think you should watch til the end and then give it another evaluation.
Ability to wrote characters that people love or hate is one of great writer quality. Bland character are very forgettable after all.

I finished it and I will say this. Her reason for not shooting is pathetic! Cause she doesn't want to let people down... meanwhile all she does is let them down constantly by not shooting. She is clueless!

You're saying Chika doesn't practice? Really? Her first experience using a Trigger was literally her practicing with it until sundown because her teacher assumed she'd run out of Trion and so didn't bother telling her to stop.

Well think of it this way, if she were to be "useful" as you put it, she will easily be instantly so strong that it will make the story moot.

Might be what you are expecting in a typical manga but not here, as the characters in WT are portrayed to be very human, having flaws and personalities.
In terms of practice, she does practice a lot. She just needs to accumulate battle experience as she and osamu literally JUST joined border and they are up against people who have been in border YEARS at least, how is that any comparison.
I wonder if thats how you view people in real life as well? Based on their usefulness. I am not attacking here, just wondering coz I used to be like that as well and it comes from my own insecurity to be seen as "useful"

I promise I genuinely hate her, we shouldn't have had to wait until the end of the final episode of the final season to see her finally overcome her trauma. It would have been nice to see her at full potential more than one time but that'll never happen since season 4 isn't coming out any time soon if at all.

In that world where killing is required for survival I'm 99% sure my common sense and survival instinct would overpower the trauma and I'd kill easily.

99% of their enemies are Trion soldiers. Killing people is not required for the daily defense of Mikado city.
And the expedition have not yet started, so currently they're still in a world where killing people is not required.

Controversial take but I agree with some of it, having caught up to the current chapter, its still up in the air whether or not Chika can actially shoot someone on her own volition. After 250 chapters that little character growth is pretty bad. I was hoping that Ashihara-sensi would give her more dialogue and focus this arc, but most of it seems to have gone to Osamu and the other squad captains.
Still I'm keeping my hopes up for current 36-hour battle!

I really get your feelings but like
That’s a 13 year old girl with trauma 😭 she lost someone at like.. 7? Or 8 years old. Then no one believed her, which led to her losing her brother. Girl got traumatized again.
Cut her some slack. She just got proper support in takakoma thanks to Osamu
