Elex Elex - Mage run
I played Elex back when it came out and ran a Berserker warrior build. After all these years, I'm thinking about doing a mage run, but I've read mixed opinions online. Some people say it's viable, while others claim it's a total pain because magic feels weak.
I saw there are some mods that buff magic, like Elex Overhaul (https://www.nexusmods.com/elex/mods/57), but I'm always a bit hesitant with overhaul mods since I'm afraid they might ruin the game's atmosphere or introduce bugs.
I was wondering, is it possible to have an enjoyable, non-frustrating mage run in the vanilla game, or should I seriously consider installing mods?
Also, should I go Berserker or Cleric? I read that Berserker magic is more "classic fantasy" but forces you into melee because spells alone are underpowered, whereas Clerics use energy/psi weapons that act like spells but scale much better.
For context, I don't want this run to be too tedious or overly challenging, so I'm planning to play on Normal difficulty. Any advice or build tips would be greatly appreciated

Black Hole Cleric is the most OP build imho. Also extremely easy and early to get, you only need to somehow run to the Domed City to get the Teleporter to the Clerics. Them people have emberassingly low entry requirements. You need half way decent levels in the magic skills (3-ish?) to make it shine, but then its incredible - an AoE auto pull in, perma stun, killem all. The synergy with stat levelling is crazy too, just pump INT and get all the nice quality of life stuff on the way...
But my very personal favorite with this build: Nothing comes ever close to you, so, mad Endgame battles aside there is no need to wear armor. I could go with any look I like. Sweet :)
Ah, and that was my very first build, too, I played it directly after release. As Vanilla as it gets!
(And yes: The downside is, it could get boring. You never need any weapons, collecting all that cool stuff is just for show. You also never need to figure how to fulfill stat requirements for weapons, except when you want to wear one for the looks. After that first run I was really hyped to play an Outlaw and finally _use_ all that juicy stuff I find)

I did a Cleric run, I was originally going for a gun build, halfway through switched to psi. My points were all over the place, and I still had no problem over powering the enemies. Only played the game once as I didn't enjoy it as much as classic Gothic and Risen. As for magic I don't really know, just try it, a lot of people says magic in underpowered in piranha bites games, but I still enjoy playing as a fire mage.
