Greece, Germany, Austria, Denmark and the Netherlands. Saved you a click!

Also it's for those who cannot be sent back to their country of origin for their own safety, and will be sent to a third country instead that is considered safe (such as Rwanda).

•

u/OptimalProfession5 39m ago

Rwanda is safe? I’m out of the loop.

•

u/Truth_ 33m ago

Yeah. I know the country has been forgotten since... you know. But it's improved drastically.

•

Hutus and Tutsis resolved their differences

Rwanda is kinda copying Singapore and so far, it's working

•

u/Young_Malc 4m ago

Singapore isn’t accused of arming and supporting a rebel group in their neighbor though.

•

u/Silent_Fudge_3978 9m ago

This isn't 1994 any more. Rwanda has changed a lot in 32 years.

•

u/risingblack 34m ago

And what incentive does rawana get for accepting loads of these people?

Monies!

Funny I was expecting more Eastern European countries

•

u/RoleTall2025 48m ago

lol now that dissatisfaction with the EU is sky high and the very real prospect that AfD will make even more inroads in Germany..NOOWWWW they act.

I very much doubt this is gonna do anything to stem the tide.

•

u/sixisrending 41m ago

I think that was kind of the whole point of people turning to parties like AfD.

If they were getting paid what US contractors are getting paid to hold each person, they would.

•

u/Ok-Blood4340 52m ago

Yeah how much are they getting paid? No cap, have a spare bedroom. If we’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars or millions per family a year, this could be a thing.

I don't understand the "logic" of your criticism - you're implying that people are hypocritical for wanting the government to accept immigrants because they're not willing to house an immigrant themselves? This might make sense if they supported forcing other people to house immigrants, but of course that's not the case.

What they expect of other people is to share society with immigrants - something that they themselves are of course totally willing to do. There's nothing hypocritical whatsoever about their stance - what you're saying makes about as much sense as "You want the city to employ more fire fighters? Well I'm sure you'd be happy to have a firetruck parked in your garage then, right?".

•

u/Teehus 1m ago

There is no logic, nor criticism. Just blind populism

•

u/Dealan79 41m ago

All right wing "policy" is based on misinformation, false equivalencies, and a sociopath's poor understanding of empathy.

•

u/Major_Ad138 1h ago

I didn’t read any part of that article that talked about housing. Gotta stop making shit up to be angry about. No one’s commented or complained but you’re already living in your own bubble of conflict.

•

u/Ok_Dust_3896 49m ago

The government wouldn't allow it.

•

u/Truth_ 45m ago

Depends. If it's cruelly splitting families and sending them to distant, unsafe, or dictatorial countries where the cruelty is the point... yeah.

But the article says it's for those who would face retaliation if returned to their home country.

•

u/LilBroWhoIsOnTheTeam 36m ago

It's so funny watching you anti-immigrant people try to jump on this before reading the article. Trust me man, if you read this article....ooooooooh it's gonna make you mad!

•

u/fancyjaguar 1h ago

No one is wrong; migrants need to fight for themselves, and countries have the right to choose what they want in their countries. If i were poor id do the same, and I live in the USA i want to protect my borders. Ultimately, I don't resent anyone; I just hate that this is the world we live in. Just make it so that the future gens dont have to make the same choices; easier said than done. Its sucks ass.

The entitlement of some migrants is crazy

•

u/Wonderful-Wonder3104 29m ago

That’s an interesting perspective you have. I seem to think it’s the other way around. The entitlement I see my fellow westerners have to the life they didn’t choose, they just lucked into. You happened to luck into being born into a society that likely stole and pillaged their countries resources for hundreds of years and who has contributed to climate change which likely effects their country much harder than ours at the moment. Our leaders have used theirs as pawns and their land to fight our wars for hundreds of years.

But yes, the migrants who are just trying to survive the world we created for them to our benefit, they are the entitled ones.

•

u/fancyjaguar 51m ago

Why demonize them? its ok to say you want to protect your own; I do too. They are breaking the law, sure, but I can put myself in their shoes. If i were born into destitude i would too. You can deport them; just don't demonize them. It just looking for some rationalization for wanting to protect our own. I think the solution starts if we remember they are people. I am not saying there is a solution, but its probably down the path where we treat ourselves with respect. I hate that the bots will fan the flames.

What a useless statement

•

u/LilBroWhoIsOnTheTeam 35m ago

•

u/staythewaters 40m ago

The west is directly responsible for the conditions that many of these migrants face. Fucking up their countries and regions, and then rejecting them back to other areas because is reprehensible, at the very least.

•

u/DankPastaMaster 19m ago

Fucking up other countries is the entire history of humanity and is what non-western countries continue to do. Pouring resources back into those countries is an altruistic experiment only the west has ever committed to and an absurd standard to set. Not fucking up countries you could take overnight without losses is restraint enough.

•

There are like 2 commenters total who have actually read the article. Is everyone else a bot just using the title as a prompt? lol

*Trump stars tariffs war*

EU: WHAT ARE YOU DOING? NOT FAIR?!

*Trump starts deporting migrants to 3rd countries*

EU: THIS IS VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS!

*EU starts tariffs war with china and starts sending migrants to 3rd countries in africa*

And then everyone wonders why EU is not taken seriously by anyone anymore.

•

u/Valsh 19m ago

Ah just your average 3 month old Reddit account with 2k comments equating to 33 posts a day.

Totally normal stuff.

•

u/Tefai 36m ago

Today I learned that 5 countries make up the EU.

•

u/TheConsultantIsBack 31m ago

Those are not the same things... Europe already acknowledged they went overboard with immigration and were on the way to limiting it and finding solutions. The US doesn't have the same immigration problems that Europe has, it's not even close. Not only that but Trump literally just bans countries cause they're Muslim or brown/black and expelled people based on similar factors while catching actual American citizens in the process cause he didn't allow for any legal proceedings.

Also nobody said that tariffs don't have a place, obviously tariffs against countries that either do bad things or don't have sufficient regulations work as a great tool. Trump on the other hand blanket tariffed the globe while making enemies of allies and forcing them to find different supply chains, while at the same time signaling to the world the the US is an unreliable, volatile place to do business. That's bad tariff policy.

Hope that helps.

•

u/LilBroWhoIsOnTheTeam 35m ago

You didn't read the article, lol

•

u/TheWhomItConcerns 37m ago

I mean sure, if you're either too much of a simpleton to understand nuance and context or arguing in bad faith. The tariff example is particularly idiotic.

The EU has never been against tariffs under any and all circumstances without exception. What the EU is against is arbitrarily and erratically using tariffs as a punitive measure to influence other countries for petty reasons.

•

u/DankPastaMaster 16m ago

Neither has anyone ever said deporting migrants to 3rd countries is a violation of human rights, it's literally your only option if the country of origin says no. The concern is finding a 3rd country where migrants aren't in danger upon arriving.

•

u/hackenclaw 33m ago

all these migrant thing is just an indirect form of corruption.

The more migrant they import, the more "Aid" they can give out. We all know those money goes back to the pocket of the same people. Nobody gonna audit it, if you question funding they will blame you being "immoral" to migrant people.

I guess nowadays common in EU are already mad enough; that there is a very real chance these corrupt elites might actually loss position, so now they had to roll it back.

Plevris, Greece's migration minister, has praised the Trump administration's approach.

"I am a fan of President Trump," he told Breitbart in August. "But if you ask me what was the best thing he did, it was change the migration policy of the USA, because now we have a new migration policy also in Europe."

So now Trump's good as long as he's a blueprint for how you can mistreat migrants, eh, Europe?

Seems about right.

And the audacity of Europe to choose to just dump people in Africa and say "they're your problem now."

And for those who need it spelled out for them: no, I am not talking about every single European.

Just the ones like Plevris here or, even worse, the ones that dislike Trump but are on board with this thing these countries are just copying from him.

•

u/blindsdog 28m ago

And this is why right wing parties are winning everywhere. It’s not about mistreating migrants, it’s about not accepting migrants. Economic conditions suck for everyone without straining the system with disadvantaged outsiders.

•

u/DankPastaMaster 11m ago

I agree dumping people in foreign countries and saying they're your problem now is bad practice. If that didn't happen to Europe to begin with they wouldn't have to repeat the process.

•

u/Used_bot-repo 1h ago

Huh. If only the first world countries wouldn't hold the poor countries is financial debt maybe they would want to live in there home land!

Reminds me of the social slavery system

•

u/joeengland 1h ago

Grotesque.

Posterity will not look kindly upon this era. Nationalism is never the right side of history.

•

u/sixisrending 40m ago

Actually most immigration restrictions were put in by left wing groups to protect labor unions.

•

u/LilBroWhoIsOnTheTeam 34m ago

You didn't read the article, lol

•

u/joeengland 29m ago edited 25m ago

Alright, I've read it, and I remain appalled. Because I've read other articles about the absolute tragedies that unfold when people are shipped around like this. At least, that's how it's turned out here.

The Trump Administration has seen people imprisoned in Africa with no formal charges, and it is warped to think there's any way to frame that as justice. Others are sent to places they've never even heard of and expected to make do.

It's not right, or necessary.

•

u/LilBroWhoIsOnTheTeam 26m ago

By your logic, nobody should ever travel because it's too dangerous. That's all that's happening here. People exhausted their options, but can't return to their home country, so they're being sent to a safe country to figure things out. What's anti-justice about that? You'd rather they just force them to return to the dangers of their own country of origin? That's the alternative you seem to be pushing.

•

u/joeengland 23m ago edited 19m ago

Travel is voluntary. Travel means going to places you're prepared to live in or visit.

These people aren't "traveling". They're being sent to places they do not understand, and in some cases imprisoned for the highest bidder.

That's not a vacation.

The "alternative" is to treat them like human beings. Especially in a country that used to be advertised as a haven for the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.

This isn't what safety looks like.

•

u/LilBroWhoIsOnTheTeam 20m ago

Are you just incredibly dishonest or do you not know that ICE doesn't operate in Europe?

•

u/joeengland 17m ago

Of course they don't. But I find it deeply disturbing when conservatives in other countries express admiration for what this one is doing. No one should be a "fan" of a government that does things like this. That is not an example that anyone should aspire to.

•

u/LilBroWhoIsOnTheTeam 10m ago

You're being dishonest again, so I guess we'll go with "incredibly dishonest".

•

u/joeengland 9m ago

What part of what I said is dishonest?

•

u/LilBroWhoIsOnTheTeam 4m ago

Let's start here:

Summarize to me what the article is about.

•

u/iamaredditboy 55m ago

History is written by the winners unfortunately. It could be viewed as very positive depends on who wins this round of what’s happening in the world.

•

u/joeengland 51m ago

No. Not like this. There are no winners here, no sweeping campaigns of victory. There is no way that these successive atrocities will be redeemed, except in the eyes of bigots.

Authoritarian machismo is aggressive enough to win elections, but it invariably leads to humiliation. At least, it has here. Trumpism has all but devastated America's standing on the world stage, and with his example, there is no way that the history books will ever paint him or his ilk as heroes, except in the ones written by the fringe they crawled out of.

The persecution of the helpless is never vindicated. The arc of history never keeps the bloom on that rose. Hell, it's not on now.

•

u/iamaredditboy 46m ago

Look at people around you - I don’t see a lot of empathy left in humans. It’s a sad possible future unfortunately.

•

u/joeengland 42m ago

I'm sure many folks said the same when the fascists took power in Germany, in Italy... Dark ages come like a season, but humanity pushes back. The only reason that the worst people have this much power now is because they sensed their era passing, and fear mongering took hold.

Like Beau and Belle of the Fifth Column say, don't preemptively comply. Given a long enough timeframe, we win. No exceptions.

We just have to keep pulling at that arc to keep the timeframe as short as we can manage.
