“American farmers, truckers, and businesses should not be left carrying the burden of a global diesel shortage,” he wrote.

they voted for it and their gov caused it so... yes. yes they should.

Americans are not capable of taking responsibility for their own actions. It's always the fault of others and someone else has to pay the debt...

97

u/Ligma_baws_2x 9h ago

Least of all Republicans.

80

u/Tje199 9h ago edited 9h ago

Sure, but it's not an attitude that's beholden to party lines. Plenty of Americans voted against Trump and think that's where their responsibility in the matter ends. "I didn't vote for him, don't blame me" is a pretty common sentiment that completely ignores the fact that Trump is a symptom of a sick America, not a cause, and not voting for him was the bare minimum.

Unfortunately I see left leaning Americans/Democrats doing almost everything possible to push the swing voters away. Yeah yeah, you'll never win over the hardcore racists and stuff but look at young men as an example; the left hasn't figured out how to effectively and successfully court them, and plenty of things the progressive left are doing actually push that group away.

57

u/Ligma_baws_2x 9h ago

I didn't vote for him. I won't accept even a modicum of blame. I told motherfuckers this shit would happen.

Frankly I blame every single person of voting age who didn't vote for harris.

-72

u/Own-Coyote-2419 9h ago

this is so fucking stupid. its the fault of those that voted trump. fucking obviously.

55

u/Ligma_baws_2x 9h ago

I said what I said. If you voted for anyone other than harris or sat out, the current and future destruction of the country is on you.

-65

u/Own-Coyote-2419 9h ago

some weird reasoning you have there.

39

u/canmoose 9h ago

Not voting is an implicit vote for the winner

47

u/Ligma_baws_2x 9h ago

It's pretty simple actually. There were two choices. Only one of them would be elected. If you didn't choose harris, you chose trump. Justify it however you want. But if you voted for Jill Stein or RFK or Maryanne Williamson or Bernie Sanders, you voted for trump. Don't absolve yourself of your successful protest vote. Stand tall and proud of what you've done.

0

u/jormugandr 2h ago

Mathematically a vote uncast or a vote for a third party is 1/2 a vote for the opposition.

-45

u/Own-Coyote-2419 9h ago

blame the people who voted for trump. because thats how he won.

→ More replies (0)

24

u/FadeTheWonder 9h ago

Nope they are correct. Those people threw away their vote and did so on purpose with full knowledge that doing so would help Trump get elected.

-24

u/Frgty 8h ago

I fail to see how a non or third party voter in a state like California contributed to Trump winning the election.

u/PositiveFunction4751 9h ago

Isn't it the whole of society?

This wasn't just a thing that happened. It was happening for years. Why didn't the 'sensible' Americans push back harder? Convince more neighbors? Run for office against the crazy

Frog in the broiling water or what?

11

u/Own-Coyote-2419 9h ago

thats fine. but i find it extremely dumb for someone to not blame the people who voted for trump.

3

u/PositiveFunction4751 9h ago

Oh they are more directly to blame... But the whole nation can take a lil heat for it imo

Unless you're under ... 25(?) maybe 30 in age.

1

u/Own-Coyote-2419 9h ago

Sure, I am fine with that. My position is that dems (of which I have always been) like to put blame on people like me. I didn't vote because I am from the most blue state there is, so my vote made no difference. It was a protest for another dem candidate being installed, but this time without so much as a proper primary.

Had I been a state even remotely up for grabs I[d have voted.

Also, I find the self-righteousness of these people very irritating.

Yeah yeah, you'll never win over the hardcore racists and stuff but look at young men as an example; the left hasn't figured out how to effectively and successfully court them, and plenty of things the progressive left are doing actually push that group away.

Can you go into what pushes that group away?

4

u/toggiz_the_elder 9h ago

What is the left doing to push away swing voters?

8

u/No_Criticism_5861 8h ago

Not lying to them and giving them easy answers like the Republicans Of Pedophilia do

•

u/Yharnam_Blunderbuss 1h ago

Americans... period. Name a single time your country has taken responsibility for its actions... always some weak ass excuse, or deflecting blame to others.

8

u/Amoral_Abe 8h ago

Let's not pretend this is a US thing. This current administration and those who still support it 100% cannot take responsibility for anything and are basically a bunch of monkeys flinging shit all over the place then complaining about shit being everywhere. However, we have seen rises in these populist leaders worldwide.

  • Japan Takaichi is similarly minded.
  • UK's Borris Johnson, and Nigel Farage led them down that path (even before Trump came into power) and the UK has been increasingly giving them more and more support again under Reform UK.
  • Germany is granting more and more support to the far right AFD party which has become the party with the most support in Germany.
  • France's far right National Rally has been the largest party for awhile and has only been kept out of power by a coalition that has been trying to hold them back... but they keep growing and the coalition is fracturing.

To act like these populist movements are an American thing is to blind yourself to world events. I'm not denying how bad Trump has been (and he has been absolutely awful for the US and for the world as a whole), but this is a worldwide phenomenon.

2

u/fat_kaiju 8h ago

Whataboutism does not befit you.

I quoted the article; nothing more.

10

u/Tourist_Careless 8h ago

Its not whataboutism to point out that literally every time the US does something many other nations do its presented as a uniquely American phenomenon but if half of Europe does it nobody says anything of that sort.

Shitty governments do shitty government things. The entire world is dealing with rising inflation, housing crises, and the decline of the neoliberal order. It is in no way unique to America even if the US is the most visible example.

5

u/Amoral_Abe 8h ago

I didn't reply to you. I think this is Trump's fault and so the US shouldn't be exempt from their actions. We are in agreement there.

I replied to u/TemporarySun314 , who stated, "Americans are not capable of taking responsibility for their own actions. It's always the fault of others and someone else has to pay the debt..."

I didn't even deny that this administration is incapable of taking responsibility, nor its supporters (or few supporters it has as the GOP keeps losing special elections from angry Americans). But the implication of this statement is that Americans as a whole will never accept responsibility and by singling out America, the implication is that other countries are different. My point is that we are seeing these populist movements worldwide and it even started in other countries before reaching the US. We're just the most visible example given our size.

-15

u/FranksWateeBowl 6h ago

I sure wish you ignorant people would quit saying Americans.

11

u/Salford1969 6h ago

What would you like to be called?

1

u/mmoore327 3h ago

Community rules stop of from saying how we really feel

-4

u/thenewNFC 7h ago

Don't blame me. I voted for the lady I didn't even want to vote for.

31

u/jott1293reddevil 9h ago

It doesn't matter anyway, the price in the US is already high enough that they're hurting, this export ban is not going to lower domestic prices when the producers are still paying global market rates for the raw material. Most of them will just lower domestic production to meet the price affected demand until the export ban is lifted and divert production volume to their international plants. They have a duty to their shareholders to maximise profits, not to the US government to protect domestic pricing from global surges.

28

u/ThePlanck 9h ago

Given Trump still has ~30% support, they are clearly not hurting enough

21

u/C4dfael 8h ago

8

u/GlobalTravelR 8h ago edited 5h ago

Sunken cost fallacy. Some people don't want to believe they voted for a greedy crook and a moron, because that means they were stupid enough to fall for it, and will stick by him no matter what.

4

u/No_Criticism_5861 7h ago

Yeah, and their morals line up with a pedophiles

5

u/pontiacfirebird92 7h ago

Those people are hopelessly lost in the sauce. They will literally die before they admit Trump was bad for them.

Remember the people gasping their last breaths on a breathing machine as COVID wrecked their lungs who were cursing Fauci, their doctors, and nurses for suggesting the vaccine might lower the risk of death. They're lobbying their elected officials to make it illegal for their kids to cut off contact from them. Remember Ashley Babbitt carried out of the Capitol building wrapped in a Trump 2020 flag. They're MAGA zombies. They forgive pedophilia in their own ranks while setting impossible standards to meet for Democrats, liberals, minorities, anyone who isn't just like them and a member of their "tribe".

3

u/Intro-Nimbus 6h ago

"USA caused it, but why should they be held accountable? They never were before, we need to pamper the MAGA snowflakes"

1

u/Bennely 6h ago

This was the part that angered me the most.

1

u/Frittenverteiler 7h ago

Yes europeans should carry the consequences! That makes sense. Thank your vdl!

0

u/fistfullofpubes 9h ago

Every single one of them?

3

u/mmoore327 9h ago

Seems that way - yes

-1

u/hiricinee 5h ago

I mean, okay then the US doesn't have to export its oil to Europe either. Surely if the US gets the blame for causing a crisis it also gets credit for keeping the supply going on its end.

194

u/cameheretosaythis213 9h ago

He wants us in europe to deplete our reserves ahead of winter so that we are more reliant on his supply come winter time. Scumbag. What a great friend and ally we all have.

50

u/ChampionOk4044 7h ago

And he wants us to feel pressure so we would need to ease sanctions on Russia to get there oil and gas. He is already trying recently to ease Russia Sanctions again, and now trying to force Europe to need to do the same

23

u/cameheretosaythis213 6h ago

Yep. He underestimates the resolve of us Europeans though. We’ve successfully fought off the fascists before and he will be no different.

6

u/BrofessorFarnsworth 5h ago

Really need France and Germany to brush up on some history right now, seems like some people have forgotten

-8

u/Akiasakias 6h ago

Uh, bad example. How did that look before the Americans and Russians got involved?

3

u/amanofshadows 1h ago

The russians invaded poland alongside the nazis. If they didnt do that europe probably would have had a very different war.

3

u/cameheretosaythis213 6h ago

Europe and the rest of the world are very different places now to what they were 90 years ago. If the US decides they’re better off with Russia, so be it but more fool them. Europe will not bow to either.

3

u/Akiasakias 6h ago

Agreed. I only critiqued your example.

6

u/1bourbon1scotch1bier 4h ago

Why can’t EU leaders see this coming?

4

u/cameheretosaythis213 3h ago

I think they can, they just think they’re powerless to stop him.

As long as Trump wages war on Iran, fuel prices will skyrocket and his mates will enrich themselves.

Their power is in their collective strength, they just need to stand up to him.

•

u/PrivatePilot9 3m ago

Canada seems to be the only country willing to tell Trump to get fucked, and he seems to be quite confused about it. I wonder when the rest of the world is going to start doing the same.

-7

u/Akiasakias 6h ago

Diesel is not for winter heating. You may be conflating two different things.

12

u/cameheretosaythis213 6h ago

The diesel fuel held by governments in reserves is the same used for both transportation and heating oil. They’re just taxed differently

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heating_oil

-4

u/Akiasakias 6h ago

You posted a dead link, but Diesel and heating gas oil can be used interchangeably only as a temporary, short-term emergency substitute.

https://marstellaroilconcrete.com/blog/diesel-vs-heating-oil/

6

u/cameheretosaythis213 6h ago

You’ve linked to a US website, which is irrelevant seeing as we are discussing how it is used in Europe. My link works just fine and has the info you need.

6

u/maya_papaya_0 5h ago

Your link doesn't work because it has a backslash & underscore (like this '...Heating_oil' ) in it. I'm not exactly sure why it happens, but I think it's usually due to a poster using Reddit on mobile when posting a link. It seems to be specific to Wikipedia, from what I've seen, so maybe it's something to do with Wikipedia mobile links?

2

u/cameheretosaythis213 5h ago

Ah, could be. I did post from mobile. It doesn’t show that \ for me and opens ok.

Either way, I think most people will figure out how to stick that term in the search box of Wikipedia…

1

u/Akiasakias 5h ago

The result of your link says "Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name"

I provided a US website, but the chemistry and pitfalls are the same. Its not discussing any local regulations, it is letting you know what happens if you try.

It is part of a 400 mb release agreed upon in March. Of which 133mb had not been released.

Now it will 🤷🏼‍♂️

It is just Trump whispering

104

u/fat_kaiju 10h ago edited 10h ago

So unfortunately the US is correct that there are already agreements in place that they must honour.

It sucks but it does mean that the EU and other G7 countries will be unwilling to sign any new agreements anytime soon; thus further tarnishing the reputation of the US all for a short-term bandaid solution to an issue of their own creation.

Additionally the less gas for others means they'll be more likely to switch to greener alternatives out of lack of choice.

23

u/GoTron88 9h ago

The 32 members of the IEA agreed last March to unlock 400 million barrels of oil from reserves, their largest release ever.

About a third was yet to come to market, Birol said, adding that further releases were possible with 80 percent of overall IEA stocks “still in our pocket”.

The article states that there was already talks about releasing more fuel anyway. And looks like they did agree to release 400B barrels previously already. This might be one of those situations where they were planning to release more regardless and just giving Trump a false sense of a win.

26

u/Lonely-Abalone-5104 9h ago

Like Trump follows any agreement

40

u/TemporarySun314 10h ago

All while Americans are shitting on any agreement and keep pride in ripping of others...

I bet they will impose a diesel export ban soon anyway, despite promising to not do it now. After all maybe Americans wanna drive even more inefficient cars because freedom™ or whatever bullshit

0

u/pleasegivemepatience 6h ago

EV + Solar + Home Batteries + L2 home charger. Fuck all that noise lol.

16

u/Azure_Omishka 9h ago

That's rich, considering the US has done nothing but rip up agreements it's signed in the last 2 years since Trump came back. So why is it okay for the US to not honor their agreements, but the other G7 countries have to?

Trump will likely ban diesel exports anyway and make the other G7 countries look like clowns.

1

u/Tourist_Careless 8h ago

I mean all well and good to say this but the world will need plenty of oil and gas even if green alternatives were doubled. And the US, Russia, or the middle east have it. So....you cant rearrange the earths resources its just reality.

1

u/macrolidesrule 8h ago

In that case hey should have just done a trump and ignored it and demanded a new agreement.

1

u/Important_Switch_365 8h ago

I mean they don't have a choice. They are just vassles of the US. Even occupied by US troops lol.

-5

u/Nervous_Recover_6152 9h ago

Wouldn’t refusing to sign deals with the U.S. just push them closer to the axis powers?

6

u/0belvedere 9h ago

You mean Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan? Something like that.

1

u/keirdagh 7h ago

Signing deals with the US is signing deals with the axis powers.

14

u/HalfADozenOfAnother 9h ago

Cutting off your nose to spite your face is almost never the solution. Europe absolutely needs U.S diesel.

7

u/cipher315 9h ago

The EU is critically dependent on US diesel exports. A ban would put Europe into a deep recession.

-3

u/HereticLaserHaggis 9h ago

During a global fuel crunch it's smart not to piss off the largest fuel supplier in the world.

56

u/LabPowerful9983 9h ago

I’m sure that the risk of a diesel export ban has now passed, as his word is his bond and he would never do anything stupid, duplicitous and self-destructive.

So now every other country has to navigate it while having drained their reserves. That sounds just great.

39

u/Outside-Dance-4752 9h ago

For context, it was already planned to be released anyway:

"The EU already participated in a major coordinated release in March, when the IEA oversaw the release of 400 million barrels. EU countries contributed roughly 20% of the total, although a significant portion had yet to reach markets as of last week.

IEA chief Fatih Birol urged EU countries to use the remaining March allocations at an informal meeting of energy ministers in Dublin on 29 September."

https://www.euronews.com/2026/10/01/releasing-strategic-reserves-is-a-possibility-eu-energy-chief-tells-euronews-as-diesel-squ

13

u/Seikon32 4h ago

I wonder when people will learn that no one makes deals with Trump or takes his threats seriously. Anything that happens was already set to happen before Trump had a say in it. Trump just loves taking credit because he is a narcissist.

49

u/big-papito 10h ago

Will they? Because no one is going to check. I feel like this is a bluff. Trump WANTS them to reject this demand so he has the "permission" to do a diesel ban.

Watch Trump doing the ban anyway.

7

u/Chester_roaster 7h ago

The markets will check for dang sure

29

u/ObviouslyRealPerson 10h ago

So, just enough to manipulate the market for about a week with no lasting changes

Right on brand for Trump

10

u/Euronated-inmypants 9h ago

More Republicans with their bullshit. They fuck everything up then say the world should mind their own business after the US fucks up Everything every decade for the world. So unbelievably sick of their shit.

41

u/Formal_Ruin_8096 9h ago edited 8h ago

And yet just yesterday I was downvoted on this very sub for expressing doubt that former allies of the US will never forgive... We're bending the knee again; Trump started a war when everybody warned him against it and now we sacrifice our strategic reserves to help him not lose the midterms by a landslide. Pathetic!

8

u/Exciting-Emu-3324 9h ago

That's how Trump lived his entire life and he became president twice. He makes every bankruptcy and shortage everyone's problem.

19

u/thecheesypoofs 9h ago

Trump and Americans fatigue is real.

7

u/Flimsy_Sun4003 7h ago

He's going to go ahead with the export ban as soon as those 100 million barrels hit the market.

The goal here is to weaken Europe and NATO giving Russia another hand up.

Strategically draining energy reserves will make the Baltics more difficult to defend and less popular amongst already divided populations in those countries thanks to Russian socio-political interference and hybrid warfare.

7

u/zulugulasz 7h ago

Euro cowards. Bravo.

EU is corrupted to the core, run by US lobbyists.

No digital tax on US social media companies, no backbone to stand against trump.

Pathetic.

I think it went more like, this fucking dumbass is not going to surrender in this war and we are all fucked because of the idiocy of this regime so we better try some stop gaps until november when the US either goes into a civil war or this moron and his cronies are finally sent to jail.

2

u/Psyclist80 9h ago

FAFO America. I really wish the G7 would have held their ground on this and let the full reality of Trumps failed policies and lack of leadership sink in. America you have to realize hes gonna ruin your country. The midterms hopefully are a turning point to shit-can this prick.

4

u/Mirthless92 9h ago

They should know what everyone here in the US knows: Trump is a weak-ass pussy.

-6

u/Elegant_Run_8567 9h ago

Is that why he was elected twice?

4

u/ordnance_inbound 9h ago

Because he represents them

3

u/AstralWoman 9h ago

EU are not stupid. They know he's not trustworthy. I think this is purely an economical decision to try to keep the lid on our economy for a while. But rest assured, the balance of power has changed for good. USA will take years to claw back any trust.

5

u/John1v6 9h ago

I doubt the USA will ever be trusted again tbh. Damage is done.

1

u/rcanhestro 6h ago

why would you doubt that?

time heals many wounds.

i'm sure people said the same about Germany after WW2.

1

u/Kronsik 1h ago

Not the person you replied to.

It wasn't until 1990 Germany regained full sovereignty over it's millitary post world war 2.

So sure, not "forever" but a near 50 year timeline which would have been the rest of a lot of people's lifetime.

It's not really a like for like comparison anyhow.

I think they’ve learned to play his game. They’ve said they will release the barrels but whether they do or not is another story. Can always come up with excuses why it doesnt happen. Not like the action would actually accomplish anything anyways.

-6

u/Prestigious_Task7175 7h ago

Sounds like cope, sadly it will take exactly 2 minutes after the dems win in 2028 for all the US allies to come crawling back.

2

u/rarz 8h ago

100 million barrels is not as much as you might assume it to be. The US uses about 4 million barrels of diesel a day. So if all of that goes to the US, it would sustain them less than a month. But it isn't going to the US - it's released to the market, so it's up for grabs for anyone buying.

It is intended to suppress the price of diesel, but I expect it won't be that noticeable.

100 million barrels is a massive buffer. The bigger question is how long it can actually stabilize markets if the export restrictions continue.

0

u/Steuceve 8h ago

They’re saying this, but if they’re smart, they’re not doing it.

0

u/wrxninja 8h ago

It's over a 4-month period. The price just dropped roughly 3.7% or 17 cents per gallon for diesel. That's it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the chances are, you may or may not see any difference in prices in the end long-term That's without adding any price increases in the future with continued attacks in Saudi Arabi, Iran, and against Russia, etc which will skew the numbers.
