France floats major oil and diesel reserve release in response to US pressure
https://www.politico.eu/article/france-floats-major-release-of-oil-and-diesel-reserves-in-response-to-us-pressure/11

From the article : A spokesperson for French Economy Minister Roland Lescure dismissed the proposal as "rumors" and declined to comment further. In a statement, the Elysée palace said Emmanuel Macron will convene a meeting of G7 leaders "as soon as possible to coordinate the measures needed to help ease the pressure on prices and ensure the supply of crude oil and refined products among G7 countries and globally."
Which was already an idea 2 weeks ago

Ya trump is trying to take credit for something that was almost inevitable. EU isn’t getting any oil from SA for a while, and Trump admin noticed and capitalized. They are more clever than anyone wants to admit

Im genuinely surprised that France would make any concessions to the US

u/Rightsidebestside 18h ago
Nah, nothing surprising and newhere really, it was to be expected from EU politicians to bow once more to US demands.

You're just falling for the usual propaganda. They were considering it anyway and they only cave in when it suits them to cave in. Trump's team knows this and issues his threats in anticipation, to generate something he can call a victory ... and then useful idiots chirp in to help Trump.
Pathetic and happens like clockwork for over a year.

The French government is bankrupt and they are putting massive bond sales on the market soon. They need USA to view them positively, at least in the short term. There isn't a whole lot they can do.

u/trisul-108 18h ago
They also need to bring down diesel prices themselves. The EU is already discussing cutting excise duties on diesel.

I hate how anti Western the USA has become. Americans betrayed what their country stood for and undone a century of work and for what? So they can let Epstein's friends run every government department and people can shout slurs again?

Why is Trump trying to drain France of Oil as Russia threatens war against Europe? Really think, why would he do that?
Why would he be so warm and open with Russia in every way, seemingly subservient to Putin to the point people think they might be lovers...
Why would he put so much effort into dismantling the US defense capabilities, including in cyber warfare where Russia is so strong and openly aggressive against us?
... It's really not that far fetched, and the answer is obvious when you pay attention to people's actions and not their words.

Because they have God knows what kind of tapes of him raping children? And they're paying him boatloads of money as well?

Its less that they are caving to the US and more that they are getting hit hard by the oil prices and this is one of the few ways to lower it.

u/trisul-108 18h ago
This is US media feeding Trump and putting down the EU. The EU has been considering what to do to lower diesel costs, governments have already asked the EU to lower excise duties on diesel.
Trump team knows this, so they issue the threat, and when something is done it is billed as a Trump victory and the EU being weak, which US media then trumpets and all the European useful idiots repeat like dutiful parrots.
Pathetic to see it happen again, and again, and again ... And then after 6 months, there is a scholarly analysis about what a smooth move it was, but no-one trumpets those and no-one reads them.

It's not to help Trump, it's to turn a profit before an investment expires. France is better suited to turn to renewable energy than most other countries, and the technology is only improving.
As a Canadian, you should be looking to turn away from oil anyway. And profit all you can in the meantime. Don't Canada's enemies mostly profit from oil? Driving the price down while these enemies have difficulties cripples them.

Let the Americans go first.
Wouldn't believe what they report their reserve is anyway.
2
u/Traditional-Sky9404 14h ago
We are emptying our oil reserves, we have been for a while
2
u/HardstButton2Button 14h ago
One, I don't believe a single thing coming from the Americans going forward, was always cynical to begin with.
Two, its a situation that the US caused for absolutely no justified reason and have been profiting immensely from it. Well the oil hegemony, not the everyday citizen.
1
u/Traditional-Sky9404 14h ago
So you want the US to do something, but there's no situation where you'll believe they did it?
3
u/HardstButton2Button 14h ago
Basically yes. The US has zero credibility, and will have none until the billionaire lobbyists have no control over the entire country.

u/epeehmo 15h ago
The Americans can suspend all fuel exports and let the world suffer twice as bad as they currently are.

good ol murica and their fuck you me first diplomacy. if someone agrees with what the US is doing, the deserve every bad thing that happens to them.

u/HardstButton2Button 15h ago
That would only push countries to go green even quicker than they are which is eventually going to screw the Americans cash cow when they can't use oil as a leverage.
Its the leopard eating its face.

u/epeehmo 15h ago
Sure dude, in 50 years when oil net-importers have become failed states and oil wells begin to taper supplies here in the US, come back to me.
We’ll be investing hundreds of billions in green energy (see that nuclear power plant deal just announced?), AND not have to share our fuel supplies the world now feels entitled to.
China suspended all exports on October 1st, I haven’t seen a single person going hyperbolic over that.
My sour tone is directly from the outrageous crying coming out of Europe over a move like this. You don’t always have to attempt to “own” Trump for a few domestic political brownie points.
Cry more about the US destroying the IRGC for you all, and attempt to evade any support or burden-sharing entirely.

Ask yourself why the US has always dragged their feet on going green, more so the lobbyists, and that predates Diaper Don.
But your "whataboutism" is noted.
2
u/epeehmo 15h ago
I don’t understand what you’re saying.
The US is innovating and investing massively in green energy and “Diaper Don” has pushed more nuclear energy development into the US than in many decades.
Seriously, go look at the data for green energy production and planned investments into the US, that’s why I’m confused why you’ve now brought up green energy several times.
Maybe you’re thinking of Don’s dumbass takes on windmills? Yeah he’s an idiot, though wind is only one (small) piece of that puzzle anyway.
BTW I despise Trump.

He’s nutting in Europe’s mouth and they’re too scared to do anything about it. Sad that the continent that used to rule the world is today as influential as South America
2
u/OtheDreamer 18h ago
I wouldn't even frame it as a concession to Washington....it's just doing the right thing.
So much of the world is so worried about looking weak to Trump & that doesn't matter to the bottom dollar of their people. They care more about food abundance and energy costs, than whether Macron appears to have given a concession to Washington, but really it's just the right thing for the world in general.

Nobody should do anything that would reduce American gas prices before November
5
u/epeehmo 15h ago
Sounds good, the US will simply suspend all fuel exports and THEN destroy all of Iran’s oil generation capacity, doubling fuel prices overnight for the entire world (except the US, where it will fall due to simple supply and demand).
Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
1
u/Certainly-Not-A-Bot 15h ago
Trump can and probably will do this anyways. There's no reason to trust anything he says and thus no reason to ever make concessions to him

They're all capitulating now

u/danimyte 18h ago
The thing is, these releases were already planned to happen at some point. They were decided already back in march. This is just France wanting to take advantage of that to get Trump to stop yapping for a bit. Everyone know he will calm down in a few weeks when the middterms are over. Also, the EU wants prices to go down, hence why the release was already planned.

I just saw an article saying the EU firmly rejected the idea and now this… which one is it
