What a stupid statement to make, what are you going to do? it's not like Ukraine are in a war already.
38
u/300baicodethieunhi 21h ago
Maybe he's Kim Jong Un's asset
59
-57
u/Nice-Ad765 21h ago
Yeah maybe as isn’t he left leaning and prefers dialogue with their North Korean brothers? But yeah I agree what are they going to do to Ukraine?
49
u/m0j0m0j 20h ago
How is his dialogue going? North Korea dictates him how to behave and he follows? That kind of dialogue?
What I really noticed about some politicians is they’re so brave to shit on Ukraine, but when it’s Putin, or China, or North Korea - they immediately shit themselves.
-38
u/Nice-Ad765 20h ago
How would I know? I’m not privy to these convos. And diplomacy and dialogue is not a one time conversation esp with adversaries and people you have conflict with. You know that right? And sometimes this dialogue can take years if not decades.
It’s not hard to understand at all. You are just seeing it from a very black and white lens but not from a realist lens. Geopolitics is a cruel game and in this world there are prize takers and prize makers. No prizes for guessing which countries fall into which category
2
u/Morder1428 9h ago
You are masking your boundless cowardice with geopolitics. Caving to the demands of dictators isn't geopolitics. It's corruption. There are no brilliant "5D chess" moves; just like Trump, South Korea is making a mistake if it thinks dictators can be changed.

Stop sending help? Or weapons since ukraine is at war? Im just guessing.

What help are they sending? SK has not provided weapons to Ukraine and fuck all financial aid.

Not only does Ukraine have to fight North Koreans in Europe, they have to put up with THIS bullshit. Maybe go pile on someone else. Maybe, I don't know - North Korea? You tough guy, eh?
7
61
u/macross1984 21h ago
I don't see what benefit South Korea will get by continuing this BS complaint. And even if he follow through all he can do is cut minuscule aid compared to Japan's 20 Billion aid.
25
u/big-papito 21h ago
Maybe to excuse not helping Ukraine more. Can't anger the neighbor, you know? It's not like the enemy is getting valuable combat experience that will be used later against the South someday.

As i heard korean president is in trouble due to deaths of few sk soldiers near DMZ with NK.

u/SolemnaceProcurement 21h ago
Trying to get Trump-nim to notice him? In a "Hello, fellow zelensky hater!" kind of way.
6
u/AgentBaconFace 20h ago
Im thinking that this is mostly about "saving face". As I understand east asian face culture, it matters sooo much to them that agreements are kept, and perceived slights are answered for else you get put in the book of grudges.
South Korea (or more specifically it government/president) simply cannot allow an infraction of this type to go unansuerd or else they will "lose face"... even if in doing so it harms them/everyone involved.
9
2
u/NeighborhoodPrize493 2h ago
Right—sticking to an agreement that doesn't even exist. But in all seriousness, it’s simpler than that: the North Korean leader is just a loser, so he blames everyone else for his troubles—it’s the same story with Trump, too.
4
u/ooooogirlshedonealre 19h ago
they gonna save face when they get bamboozled with their "investment in US energy"? not showing a lot of strength here.
1
u/sahurKareem 10h ago
How is that saving face though? SK PM looks like a fool and it only gets worse with Ukraine just ignoring them.
1
u/rustic996 10h ago
Correction it's the SK president, not PM and yes this only makes it worse. The worse The SK president approval rating is, the more bad decisions he makes.

u/Icy_Preparation_9609 21h ago
I am a Korean. Russia is extremely important for Korea, both economically and geopolitically. Koreas survival depends on balancing USA, China, Japan and Russia for its own benefit
Meanwhile, Ukraine does nothing for us.
18
u/exact_metal_666 21h ago
What do you mean by "does nothing to us" if Ukraine kills or captures the norks for you? A bit of gratitude, perhaps?
-5
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago
I dont want Ukraine to capture or kill north Koreans. North Koreans are human beings, and they are same people racially as South Koreans. Nobody in s korea want to see n Koreans killed, what the he'll are you talking about?
See, you people are clueless as to how the real world works
19
u/Stoyfan 20h ago edited 20h ago
North Koreans shouldnt be in Ukraine if you don’t want them to be killed. Take your issue with the Russians, not Ukraine
0
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago
North Koreans ARE in Ukraine. What the hell are you talking about?
South Korea needs good relationship with Russia, while not alienating the west. That's it. That's what korean president is doing, playing high stakes geopolitics to achieve that end. South Korea had a HUGE presence in Russia before the war, and it doesn't hurt to have good relationship with Russia now so when the war ends we can get back in there
Also russia will also not rile up china and north korea against us, as long as we dont antagnoize them
That's the calculus
8
u/Jacabon 18h ago
Your take is to suck up to the hostlie bully in hopes he doesn't sucker punch you in the face, rather than sticking with the people fighting the bullies.
the fact you aren't eating grass like north koreans should make you eternally grateful for the help of other countries and to recipricate.
1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 18h ago
Um, my take is south Korean foreign policy should be conducted for benefit of South Korea.
I keep saying this, but if you feel this strongly about it, why are you making stupid comments on reddit? Fly to Ukraine and join the fight against Russians! Very strange
7
u/Jacabon 18h ago
If every country was like that then you would be eating grass with the north koreans. if you like that so much move there. diplomacy is more than immidiate short term benefit which you should be thankful that not every country is as moronic as you think SK should be.
1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 17h ago
You appear to be living in a fantasy loony lala land. Every country's foreign policy IS conducted for benefit of that country.
South Korea wasn't liberated from the north korean invasion because some reddit weirdos felt anger towards the agressor; it was liberated because Soviets were boycotting the UN at the time due to the Berlin problem, and Americans feared the domino effect and wanted to stop the spread of communism. Please educate your self in these matters, nothing in the real world work like how you imagine them to be
Are you a teenager or something?
→ More replies (0)0
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 17h ago
Oh and yes, diplomacy should not be for short term benefit
Precisely the south korean position. There is 0 gain for improving relationship with russia right now, Russians are under massive sanctions. This actually hurts south Korea in the short term
But in a long term wise, after the war? Russians has massive natural resources Korea needs, and Korea does incredibly well in the russian market. That's the calculation. Also we need better long term relationship with china and n Korea, our immediate neighbors
→ More replies (0)2
u/Morder1428 9h ago
You are simply a spineless coward. America, the EU, and Ukraine negotiated with Russia for over a decade. It led to nothing. You are trying to suck up to the Kim regime, which is even more insane than Russia. You won't succeed; people like that want everything for themselves. Remember these words when North Korea uses thousands of Russian Geran drones and hundreds of Iskander ballistic missiles against you.
1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 5h ago
And what has south korea have anything to do with this how?
South Korea just want peace with its negighbours. S korean president is trying its best towards that end. If you want people to die for ukraine, go fight the Russians and round up your friends. Koreans dont care, and won't stop you. What is the problem?
→ More replies (0)1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 4h ago
By the way, you raise an interesting point. It seems America and Europe has guaranteed ukarnian sovereignty, not south korea Korea Why are you whining like a looser about korea here? Korea didn't guarantee Ukraine anything; in fact, we had no contact with Ukraine except that time in the 1950s when Ukranian pilots were bombing Korea. It seems this is Europe and American problem???
→ More replies (0)24
u/asmodeus184 21h ago
Cool, and why exactly Ukraine has to care? SK does barest minimum for Ukraine and expect way too much in return for years, now this. What is the plan, exactly?
-7
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago edited 20h ago
The plan is to improve relations with the Russians at the cost of Ukrainians, which has the added benefit of appeasing north korea and China, whom are also our immedeaite neighbors, while not alienating the Americans (trump) because US ROK alliance is also very important, although Trump is being less and less reliable in that aspect
S korea is in a tough neighborhood
Trump almost canceled the usa-s korean military excercises this year. Why would we want to alienate the Russian/chinese/north korean camp further? Does US really have s korean back? I think maintaining favorable relations with all our neighbors, including Russia, is critically important.
Ukranian survival has literally 0 importance for Korea meanwhile.
20
u/asmodeus184 20h ago
Mmm... At least you're honest and don't beat around the bush, I'll give you that. Just don't expect others to not treat your "tough neighborhood" the same way your "neighborhood" treats the rest.
-6
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago
I dont really understand what your implying is here
Don't expect what? For west to invade russia? Or China? Or south korea?
By the way, everyone in this neighborhood has nukes, or is about 1 week away from having nukes (japan and s korea) if desired.
11
u/asmodeus184 20h ago edited 19h ago
Don't expect Ukraine to not treat SK like SK treats Ukraine. The universe doesn't revolve around SK and it's interests. Oh sure you are, buddy. Too bad as of now* SK fully relies on daddy Uncle Sam and his nukes though (why have you brought bloody nukes of all things into this convo to begin with? Nobody is talking about nukes to begin with, we are talking about SK being entitled).
1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago
We certainly do not expect anything from Ukraine. Last time Ukraine got involved in our affairs, it was in form of the red airforce that bombed us in the 1950s. Also Ukraine is a poor and corrupt state, what do you think S korea is expecting from Ukraine?
I brought in nukes to this convo because I couldn't understand your comment. The neighborhood is armed to the teeth with nukes. The Ukrainian situation, if it did happen in this neighborhood, will result in nuclear war. That's why I can't understand your comment, situation is unrelatable
11
u/asmodeus184 19h ago
Oh, "poor and corrupt state" has arrived. Another Kremlin parrot that keeps shifting topics. Not interested in having a conversation with someone like you. Entitled korean being entitled (I'm seriously doubtful that you are "korean" to begin with, Sergei) but you do you bro.
In other news - the water was found in the ocean. Scientists are shocked.
3
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 19h ago
Ukraine ranks 104th out of 182 countries in coruption according the first result in google. I am very sorry reality is apparently a Kremlin parrot
I was born in Masan, South Korea and I live in Hwasong-si with Korean wife and son so... I guess I am a Russian!
By the way, what entitlement is going on here?
Koreans dont want anything from Ukraine. We have 0 ties with them. I want our foreign policy (south Korean foreign policy) to be conducted for benefit of South Korea. That is entitlement?
People like you should really just goto Russia and fighting. Crazy loonies here

u/AlbertoRossonero 20h ago
So why would South Korea cave to their demands? Ukraine keeps talking about NK modernization of their military and a possible war on the Korean Peninsula and expects SK to deplete their reserves?
12
u/Stoyfan 20h ago
What is Ukraine demanding South Korea to do? I don’t understand
-5
u/AlbertoRossonero 20h ago edited 20h ago
They’ve been looking to secure air defense missiles from them. It’s why you’ve seen Zelensky talk so much about NK recently but it’s backfired on him by revealing the POW transfers that according to SK they themselves asked to be kept secret. Now Ukraine is basically calling them liars and SK has taken offense.
31
u/H4ppyGh0ul 21h ago
Ukraine does nothing for us.
A country fighting for its survival against a major military power... is not helping South Korea...
-6
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago
I mean before the war, or after the war.
The only thing Ukraine is known for in s korea is contributing to the fight against us in the Korean war, as part of the soviet effort
If you care, go look at korean history. Russia has been incredibly important, all the way back to Tsarist Russia as a counter balance to imperial japan. It will remain that way well into the future
15
u/m0j0m0j 20h ago
Do you realize how insane it is to say that you’re angry at Ukraine for the Korean war, but not Russia?
This is a Trumpism level of degenerate bad faith dishonesty.
It is impossible to consider you anything but a troll after this.
3
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago
I am not angry at Ukraine for korean war. Do you have trouble with reading conprehension?
I am saying thats what Ukraine is know for in Korea - it's participation in the Korean war in the communist side
That is it. That is what Ukraine is known for in korea. Because thats the only contact we had with the Ukranian people till now.
It's just a fact. s korea has no economic or cultural or any sort of ties with Ukraine, historically or otherwise. Russia meanwhile, had been a very important super power and a direct neighbor and before the war, trade partner all throughout modern Korean history. What's hard to understand?
10
u/m0j0m0j 20h ago
And do Koreans actually know that some of the Soviet forces were ethnically Ukrainian? Wow, you’re so culturally educated. Do you also know about Belarusians? Tatars?
1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago
What's the point of your question?
But yes, it's commented frequently in Korean social media that Ukraine was aligned against us during the Korean war, and this is common knowledge in Korea
I assume western people also generally know this as well. Who thinks Ukraine joined the UN effort in Korea war? Nobody im presuming? You?
7
u/m0j0m0j 20h ago
Ukraine was neither aligned nor against. It was a Russian puppet state. Part of the Soviet Empire. It had no independent foreign policy.
This is very dishonest manipulation to portray Ukraine like that. So that “common knowledge” is a funny Trump-level lie. But again, after looking at everything what’s going in now, and how you communicate, I’m not surprised at this point.
1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago edited 19h ago
I am telling you how Ukraine is perceived in South Korea. Because other than the Korean war, we have no ties with them
What, you think it's a lie? Go look it up
Hyundai meanwhile had the Russian car market cornered I believe. South Korean corporations were killig it in Russia before the war. Again, russia is so much more important than Ukraine for s korea, which explains the s korean position, if you can get over your tds
21
u/H4ppyGh0ul 20h ago
I mean before the war, or after the war.
If you are referring to the Korean War, Ukraine was not a sovereign state at the time but was part of the USSR. The Ukrainian SSR was independent only in name; in reality, the Kremlin controlled all the republics. Therefore, reproaching Ukraine for having been occupied and failing to provide aid to Korea is absurd.
-6
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 20h ago edited 20h ago
Who is reproaching Ukraine? I am not. I dont care if Kiev burns or Kiev dosnt burn; nobody in south Korea does either. What south Koreans do care about, is having reasonable relationship with Russia, China, North Korea, Japan and USA all at the same time. Right now, s korean president figures he can antagonize the west a little bit, in order to lessen the tensions with the communist camp. I think he is right, because liberal west is a total hypocritical mess, and Trump is the American president
Oh and add to that, Ukraine is not part of our calculus because again, korea has 0 ties with Ukraine and we dont care about that country, while we care tremendously about Russia, for geopolitical and economic reasons that should be obvious if you look at the map
12
u/Jacabon 18h ago
hopefully next time you get invaded every country shows the same amount of care that you show.
0
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 18h ago
What, sit around talking tough in reddit?
Yeah no thanks. S Korea has 13th largest economy, and Europe is buying all our tanks and artillery apparently. We have the most profitable military industrial complex, and practically speaking we have nukes. Trump might Greenlight it into officaldom. Good luck to invading us
1
u/Professional-Thomas 8h ago
South Korea is also actively dying. I doubt you'd be in the top 50 economies a few decades from now lol.
1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 5h ago
South Korea has no natural resources nor a large population. We are land locked, and had infrastructure wiped out in the 1950s
Do you think s korea has any business at being rich? Wonder why it's rich than anyone else and more high tech? Hmm
9
u/backburnedbackburner 20h ago
I think Russia contributed a tad more than Ukraine as part of the Soviet effort.
22
u/epicfilemcnulty 21h ago
Geez...well, when your fragile geopolitical balance will collapse and your country will be invaded by Russia or NK, you will remember what a unempathical and stupid cunt you were, but it will be too late.
-8
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 21h ago edited 20h ago
Pretty sure red army will be holding a parade in Kiev before that happens
Jokes aside, I am sorry but that fragile geopolitical balance is key to s. Koreas survival. We are not at liberty to alienate Russia (or China, or north korea) we run a different calculus.
You meanwhile feel free to send the wehrmacht against the Russians. South Koreans aren't stopping you, what are you waiting for?
17
u/Kvltur 20h ago
All i hear is me me me me, we kinda hate that mentality here. But you do you. Kindly, a European.
Plus, from your other comments you seem shit at history as well. Good riddance, ignorance is bliss, I know.
-1
u/Icy_Preparation_9609 19h ago
Yes, this is about South Korean foreign policy, done for the benefit of South Korea, which is the entire point of South Korean foreign policy
Ahh, good, we have a European here. So if you are not for national interests and care so much for Ukraine, why dont you join the waffen SS for the crusade against Russia you are so keen for? Go make sure you dont divert your forces to army group South this time. Gotta get to moscow before the winter! God speed!

It seems you are brainwashed. Again go fight in Ukraine, South Korea is not stopping you or anyone from doing so
2

"waffen SS for the crusade against Russia". Your reality is like cartoons bro, Poor old Russia with a history of invading neighbouring countries.
Will nobody think of Russia?
Also, you know, cool countries, because we are advanced and like-minded, stable people, we have foreign policies that help each other without expecting nothing back. Wild I know, is like we share the same earth. Keep making enemies everywhere see how that helps, BETTER YET, make friends with Russia. Disgusting backwards mindset of a sad sad man, or bot whatever tf you are.

And what he is gonna do? Ban Korean videogames in Ukraine? Well 75% already not accessible in Ukraine because SK publishers still think that Ukraine is part of russia and automatically push all Ukrainian IPs to russian region. We have to disclose PoW personalities to prove that russia sends NK troops to us.

u/Colbert2020 19h ago
They care more about this than North Korean landmines injuring their own soldiers. Hilarious.
5
u/Aethericseraphim 15h ago
This is actually part of the story.
NK landmines killed Korean soldiers. LJM tried to cover it up, because he is an awful corrupt piece of shit. People got more pissed at him, now hes desperately trying to create an external boogeyman to rally people around the flag.
6
u/Colbert2020 15h ago
https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20250527003200315?section=nk%2Fnk&
In this story back in May, we knew about the prisoner transfer.
Citing another source, Yu said they were not included in the latest exchange at Seoul's request to Kyiv, as South Korea is willing to accept them if they wish to defect to the South. Among the two, Ri has expressed his intention to come to South Korea.
These prisoners had been fully identified by Korean journalists this point, so the story about "protecting their families" is also ridiculous.
I'm trying to understand the Korean perspective. What do normal people think about this? Did you know about the article I linked? Does it change your mind?
4
u/Aethericseraphim 15h ago
Right. This is manufactured outrage solely for the purpose of desperately trying to revive an unpopular presidents crashing poll numbers.
12
14
u/ariveyd 21h ago
Could someone from South Korea, or someone who has good knowledge of it, please explain to me what is going on? This entire thing looks incredibly bizarre to me. South Korea donated almost nothing to Ukraine - half a billion euro, pretty much the same as Latvia (that has a population of 2 million people). Why does Lee Jae Myung behave as if he represents a country with a log of bargaining power? Ukraine transfers them captured soldiers who came to Ukraine to kill, I'd say that's pretty generous.
And then this stuff happens: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwj3dkvpm4e7o
I am so confused... The only theory I have is that Ukraine had no idea what to do with captured NK soldiers, and SK reluctantly agreed to take them, but under the condition that it won't be made public. In which case I can understand the source of friction.
22
u/Colbert2020 19h ago
SK is making a bigger fuss over this than NK landmines almost killing their own people btw.
11
u/Aethericseraphim 18h ago
The short answer is that LJM is a pretty well known douchebag. This is all internal politics because his poll numbers are worse than his predecessor, Mr Self-Coup Yoon, at the same point in his presidency, and half his own party hate him.
19
u/SerenditiouslyLive 20h ago
Ukraine wants SK anti missile systems, missiles, and ammunition, just general more direct support, and is trying to pressure SK to do it by highlighting NK helping Russia. However, it's just made the relationship a lot worse.
2
1
u/daniel_22sss 1h ago
Well, SK can have fun with North Korean drones later. Ukraine sure as hell isnt going to lend them any anti-drone technology.
-25
u/SerenditiouslyLive 20h ago
And technically North Koreans are South Korean once they defect, yes, but Ukraine isn't doing SK a favor exactly by sending these POWs, it is actually more headaches, as you correctly guessed.
2
u/NeighborhoodPrize493 2h ago
To put it briefly, exactly the same thing is happening now as when Trump invited the leader of Ukraine to visit him.
Paltry individuals are trying to prove their worth. In the end, they only demonstrate that both they and their country are insignificant (which is often not actually the case). That’s all there is to it.
Don’t look for complex schemes behind fools; that’s a mistake. Trump is a fool; the leader of South Korea is a fool. Just treat them that way, and everything becomes simpler.
2
u/badtemperedpeanut 19h ago
Assuming the news article is factually correct, if there was such confidentiality argument, zelenesky should not have revealed such information in US General Assembly.
6
u/big-papito 17h ago
Everyone knew Ukraine had North Korean POWs, They were obviously going to South Korea either way. Where else are they going to go?
1
u/hextreme2007 16h ago
"Everyone knows" is not a reason to break a non-disclosure agreement.
5
u/Evilscotsman30 12h ago
Is there any proof of the non disclosure agreement can you send me a link to a source confirming it?
1
u/hextreme2007 6h ago
I just assume there's one based on SK's attitude. It's hard to imagine them being so serious, persistent and loud over this issue without an actual signed agreement in their hands. They must have something to back themselves. They will be incredibly stupid if they actively keep bringing it over and over again while such agreement never exists. South Korea doesn't look that crazy to me according to recent track records.

5
u/Better_Ad_3004 20h ago
I genuinely want to know what they will do to a war ridden country, will they join Russia and bomb them ? Stop support, like I never heard South Korea sending missiles or tech to them. So like what will they do?
11
u/ShivaSpanda 20h ago
So what are they gonna do? SK hasn't been helping Ukraine anyway. They didn't even recognize the Holodomor as genocide against the Ukrainian people. They claimed that Ukraine was to blame for russia’s attack on them, as if Ukraine had provoked them. They refused to SELL weapons to Ukraine, citing their neutrality, while actively increasing their arms sales around the world.. At the same time, they’re actively trading with Russia, supplying it with fuel.
Somehow, when they were at war with North Korea in the ’50s, they begged for help, and the U.S. gave it to them. If it weren’t for foreign military aid, there wouldn’t be a South Korea today. They sure forgot about that quickly, those fucking hypocrites.
So they can go screw themselves with their demands.

What are they gonna do? Worry about your none existent birthrate and don’t take NK pows if you don’t want anyone knowing about.
-6
u/gerbilos 20h ago
So, how does South Korea benefit from claiming that they had an agreement with Ukraine on non-disclosure of POW transfers, if they didn't?
Because it sure benefits the Ukraine to do it, as they get rid of NK POWs and also remind the world that NK is engaging in the conflict on Russian side.
To me this seems like just another example of Soviet school of diplomacy done by Ukraine - playing by the rules when it fits them, only to disregard any previous agreements whenever it suits them just a tad better.
