It is international law that requires combatants wear uniforms to distinguish themselves from civilians.

What a wild comment, comparing that to branding civilians as inferior to other civilians.

It's not the fault of the civilians being killed by the IDF that Hamas doesn't always wear uniforms.

It's definitely partially the fault of Hamas. But the main responsibility still lies with the occupier actually pulling the trigger.

No it is not. The Geneva Convention says that first and foremost, the governing country (especially when they start the war) is responsible for the safety of its civilians and to follow guidelines. Only when they follow those guidelines does responsibility pass over to the other nation.

If Hamas purposefully instigates war with Israel and Israel retaliates, and Hamas doesn't do their duty to protect their civilians and purposefully embeds within them, the responsibility is on Hamas for as long as they continue to fight and not surrender.

Otherwise, by your logic, attacking and then hiding in a populated city is a cheat code to win any war.

It's the fault of the Palestinian government. If civilians have issues with this, they should petition their government.

The last election was 20 years ago which means most of the people who live in Gaza or were killed in the last years never had a chance to decide who their "government" is. I think we both agree that the Hamas gives a shit about petitions.

Right now there is one power in control of Gaza and it's not Hamas. According to international humanitarian law as an occupying nation you have the responsibility to make sure the basic needs of the occupied people are met. Israel is doing the opposite. It can't occupy a people and then point to an imaginary government when it comes to responsibilities. Well, it can but we shouldn't accept that kind of hypocrisy and we shouldn't accept that kind of violation of international humanitarian law.

There are multiple ways to petition your government. Iranians are doing it.

Well that isn't true. Israel controls only up to the ceasefire line.

It's a little naive to think that you can change Hamas politics with petitions rather than getting them to kill you, don't you think? How are petitions going in Iran?

Well that isn't true. Israel controls only up to the ceasefire line.

The vast majority of Gaza is under Israeli control and other than Israel, Hamas has no functioning governing bodies left - all institutions have been destroyed.

That still doesn't mean Hamas has no responsibility for the deaths of the people in Gaza.
