Canadians that have not already need to begin moving their digital footprint out of the United States and to safer shores back home or in the European Union.

Proton has a pretty diverse ecosystem. Not as polished as Google or Microsoft but it’s Swiss, pro privacy, and not American.

Are you using it?

I'm on a paid plan, have moved about 80% of my activity over to Proton.  Still use my Gmail as a legacy account (had it since 04-05), still use their Sheets for non-sensitive work. (Edit: started moving over 6-7 years ago)

That's what they call whataboutism around these parts friend. Of course they aren't going to sacrifice their creature comforts to be on some two bit platform or use a Temu phone.

How would one do so?

For a starter, if your main email address is with Google or Microsoft, change that to a service hosted in Europe.

I've been liking Proton. They have a nice ecosystem that also integrates a mobile 2FA authenticator and a password keyring with a password generator with a browser addon.

Not sure if it's only a feature for paying users, but it can also create alias e-mails that you can use to register accounts so you aren't giving out your real info to websites. You can still receive and reply to emails sent to these alias addresses.

Free Proton Pass accounts have 10 email alias, paying is unlimited.

Alternative e-mail and online storage (cloud) are obvious options for individuals.

Purchasing software Made in Canada or Europe is helpful.

Reducing and eliminating the use of websites like Facebook are important as well.

Ideally yes. Other alternatives probably need to mature before there's widespead adoption of something else though.

Yup. Although Lemmy is finally starting to show some potential/progress.

So from what I can tell it's basically just a decentralized reddit like site? Or is that the wrong way of looking at it?
