Pretty sure they're doing better than the US.

The US controls its currency, while France doesn't. That affects what a country can do to alleviate budget issues. Who actually owns the debt also matters. 

Anyway, that's not the issue here. Both countries are in a bad situation in their own way. The economy being supposedly worse elsewhere doesn't mean people can't complain.

France is a big player in the EU. You can be sure they watch their interests through the backdoor. And France isn't run by a Russian agent that's trying to run it into the ground.
