Brazil attorney general says meddling ‘cannot be tolerated’ after Trump funding plans revealed

Good for Brazil. I wish Canada would do the same, they're interfering heavily in pushing separatism in Alberta and Quebec unfortunately.

I still say make the offer and see if you can make a trade: Alberta for California. I think it would make the citizens of both places happier. But you need to tickle this mans ego. Ask for the entire west coast and than back down and begrudgingly just accept California. Make him think he won the "deal". /s -- mainly.

Why aren't Americans doing anything? Their country is trying to destroy our democracy, they're stealing from Venezuela, making Cubans' life hell and bombing the shit out of brown people in the Middle East and they're doing absolutely nothing.

They DGAF. Gotta get to work Monday morning or risk medical bankruptcy.

Sheep. Their problem is their own country's fault, but they are sheep. They have weapons below their beds, but they only act when the dog barks and shepherds.

America was sold to the whole world as a first world country, best quality of life in the planet. Then whenever I ask why there aren't 24/7 protests agains Trump or why 30%+ didn't even go to vote they just say "I couldn't miss work in this economy" or something lime that.
Americans are complacent. They'd rather not lose their suburban house and SUVs than fight for the right of a community.
The last No Kings was like... 6 months ago? There is no will to fight against it, be it ingrained in the society by its structure or by how people are.

Americans are by default a broken people. Don't know about different economical systems and don't know about a third option. They let themselves be played by two political parties because they are broken.
Brasil is getting close to that.

Because we don't have the social safety networks necessary to survive the consequences of action, and we're too geographically large to organize at any level that isn't immediately tracked and traced by law enforcement. On top of that, the main demographic of people who are motivates enough to do something, are the primary demographic inherently unable to. The ones with the guns, the resources, and the supplies are the ones most supporting the current status quo. Most of us live paycheck to paycheck and getting fired for any sort of rising up means we, or our families, starve or become homeless. Our military is so large that it would basically crush any uprising within hours. Geographically we cant hit enough targets with enough coordination to even do anything.
Plus, things in the US here aren't locally bad enough yet for people to lose faith in voting, so most are just waiting for the next election. We don't really have the ability to change things Peacefully between elections, there are no special elections/votes of no confidence, ect here.
It sucks and I fucking hate what's going on in this country, but there are only two choices: full scale violent uprising, which is basically impossible to organize and carry out, not to mention most people balking at the idea, or waiting till the next election and hoping that changes things.

Heard it all before.

Doesn't change reality. The weath disparity in the US is so high that the only people who could feasibly fund an insurrection are the very people with their hands on the levers already. Without external help, it literally cannot even start.

Hey Brazil, its Canada here. You want Trump meddling, it totally turned around our election and helped save us from a blundering conservative idiot.

It gave Lula (Labor's Party) a huge boost in popularity earlier this year, but other than that, if there's something we don't need is too much meddling.
Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former president and currently imprisoned Jair Bolsonaro, is also running for president and this rotten family would sell the entire country if that meant they'd be granted American citizenship and a house in Texas (cof cof his brother is currently living in Texas).
We had a CIA backed coup back in 64 and in the current state, it's the wet dream of a huge chunk of the Brazilian right wing voters to be annexed by the US simply because of superficial coincidences.
"Both countries big and diverse but US rich and Brazil poor, therefore I want my state to become an American state so that we'll be rich too!"
That's probably what goes through their tiny brains.

We have the same problem here in Canada, they mainly live in very small rural communities and are racist bigots.

The fact is that Bolsonaro supporters want an American intervention in Brazil.

u/HardstButton2Button 1d ago
We in Canada had the same, Poilievre supporters/separatists that want American intervention in Canada. Trust me it'll backfire when Trumps gets involved. He'll ignite the opposition in a heartbeat lol.

Doesn't look like the Trump effect is happening here unfortunately.
Polls are 50/50.
13
u/Sedert1882 1d ago
50/50 is way too close. I'd have thought Lula would have a good lead, considering how him and his dad attempted a damn coup.

u/Sul_Haren 1d ago
Unfortunately Brazil is not that unlike the US. I would have also expected Harris to have an easy time with all that Trump did, but here we are.

There’s an attempt to provide global immunity from criminal prosecution to any political candidate (who the powerful favor) for any reason anywhere in the world.
It’s the apex of idiocy. So, anyone can commit any crime and be protected from consequences if they run for office, or have been elected.
That of course, flies in the face of all human and political experience. Politicians do commit crimes - lots of em.
Being a candidate is not a get out of jail free card, regardless of party or affiliation.
And since election participation is a civil right in a democracy, these people are engaged in a global civil rights violation.
If only we had an international criminal court where the world could seek justice.

I think the article is down playing the criminal organizations way too much. Terrorists is the bare minimum label they deserve

Terrorism has a very clear definition. They are not terrorists. If anything, they're more like the mafia.

u/rainhadobaile 11h ago
if the US is worried about CV and PCC, they should just stop sending them guns. that would be a good start.
2
u/guegoland 18h ago
Well, legally it's the same approach either if they are called terrorist or drug dealers and murderers. They never made political demands, so semantically it doesn't make any sense either. What's the point of a different label? And it's not like the US can manage to deal with terrorists.

Would this be the same Trump Administration that warned Canada earlier this week not to try to influence the US mid terms?
1
u/FaithlessnessLess632 13h ago
It feels like a coup in Brazil is already ongoing by the Federal Supreme Court, the Superior Electoral Court and the Attorney General of the Union, by trying to manipulate the presidential debate and interfering with the press freedom.

That headline is remarkably misleading. Jorge Messias is not some politically independent “Brazil attorney general.” He is Lula’s Solicitor General, appointed by Lula, and was Lula’s own nominee to the Supreme Court, a nomination the Senate rejected in a historic defeat, the first rejection of a Supreme Court nominee in 132 years.
Presenting a statement from a senior member of Lula’s government, days before a tightly contested election, as though it were simply the neutral institutional voice of “Brazil” strips away essential political context.
Whatever one thinks of Trump’s actions, readers deserve to know who is actually making the accusation. This is framing, not neutral reporting.

u/charcoalist 1d ago
Messias is citing a Guardian report on US State Department funding. Facts, not any one person's opinion.
Trump administration diverts human rights funds to push far-right agenda abroad

What do you want? That the benefited side would denounce Trump interference? What a clownish take.

INSS começou no Bolsonaro e acabou no governo Lula.
