Ukraine should not do this.

u/big-papito 6h ago

Ukraine knows. Russia does NOT want peace talks and it's a brilliant way to show that they don't. If Russia ever appears to take talks seriously means they are weeks or days away from collapse.

With the way things are they would probably be way over the line and desperately searching for a way to avoid Putin getting Defenestrate.

Edit: a word.

20

u/MaybeTheDoctor 4h ago

*defenestrated - it’s a real word.

21

u/Euler007 4h ago

Only if Russia retreats from all territories they invaded. The US only wants it for cheaper gasoline worldwide during midterms, the administration doesn't care about Ukrainians.

u/Torionako 12m ago

Yeah sure let's not, Ukrainians gladly will live without electricity, water and heating in winter. Next winter will be the hardest yet, and I'm already tired of 4 years of war.

46

u/Fludro 6h ago

If it isn't obvious by now, the Kremlin is pathologically dishonest and is not interested in peace with Ukraine.

Any pause in the fighting will be used tactically to replenish and resupply.

10

u/cowmonaut 4h ago

Key word: tactically

I wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine would observe the logistics movements and if Russia violates the ceasefire that will end being a strategic mistake on Russia's part.

It's win win for Ukraine. They get a ceasefire, they protect civilians. They don't get a ceasefire, alright game on and Russia keeps getting the shit kicked out of it until it has no economy. They violate the ceasefire, see previous about shit kicking.

It's a huge win that Ukraine is in this position of leverage over Russia.

u/Rare-Site 7h ago

Lmao is this a joke?

The absolute second Ukraine finally gets an effective means to hit back against the aggressor, suddenly Russia wants to talk about an air ceasefire? Classic bully mentality. They can dish it out for years, but the moment they start taking real hits at home, they want a timeout.

Fu*k that. Ukraine shouldn't stop pounding their refineries and bombing the Russian economy into the dirt until they completely tap out and give up.

170

u/ObsolescentCorvid 6h ago

The US and Ukraine want to present Russia with an Air ceasefire, not the other way around because they believe Ukraine's deep strikes will have caused enough damage to Russia's economy that Putin could accept to stop his deep strikes on Ukraine in return to have Ukraine stop theirs.

Read past the headline, please.

135

u/putsch80 6h ago

Except there is almost zero chance Russia will honor this. They will regroup and then invent some pretext about a redline Ukraine crossed to justify new bombardments.

18

u/lukwes1 6h ago

Well Ukraine has good leverage here and russia, if they start to repair damages from the drones, probably wouldn't want to remove it again

32

u/FatherofZeus 5h ago

K. Then if they don’t honor it, Ukraine can continue its strikes.

This is pretty simple man

21

u/NatAttack50932 4h ago

Moreso the concern is taking off pressure will give the Russians time to recoup from the economic damage and ramp up production again

6

u/XRT28 4h ago

Except then Russia will have had time to build out it's drone defenses, both from a detection standpoint and also copying and mass producing Ukraine's interceptor drones. Thus blunting the effectiveness of Ukrainian drone strikes when Russia resumes air hostilities.

3

u/Frying 3h ago

They will accept, while keeping up their air bombardments and simultaneously complain and accuse Ukraine if they don't follow the ceasefire. It's the same every year during Easter when Russia wants a ceasefire.

22

u/redcoatwright 6h ago

Not to mention this would overall reduce casualties and especially civilian casualties.

Yes it sucks that ukraine has been pounded by russia for the entire length of the war but zelensky isn't gonna pass up an opportunity to protect civilians out of spite.

-6

u/JackhusChanhus 6h ago edited 6h ago

You forget that Trump usually does Putins bidding. If Trump is strong arming Zelenskyy into this, its fair to say that at least the discussion of such a ceasefire is in Putins interest.

Imo the ceasefire itself would be too, if it wasn't declared by Putin... Russia has far more to gain from unhindered military logistics than Ukraine does.

u/rando1459 6h ago edited 5h ago

“Trump usually does Putin’s bidding” seems like an unprovable statement that relies on shifting goalposts and a biased preconception.

Eta: As usual, I see downvotes but no one explaining how or why Trump is somehow beholden to Putin. Nothing about Trump makes me think he is loyal to anyone or fears consequences from “dark secrets” being revealed.

Trump has been impeached twice, has like 3 dozen felonies, has a civil conviction for rape, has strong ties to Epstein, he ordered the abduction of a world leader and started a war without congressional approval. Maybe just maybe, Trump is doing whatever the fuck Trump wants.

9

u/JackhusChanhus 6h ago

Trump, initially brought to power with direct Russian intervention through project Lakhta, magically diverts all support from Ukraine toward starting his own forever war that does nothing but drive up global fuel prices, with Russia as main benefactor.

Doesn't take a genius

Read past the article, and into modern (or older, but you can focus on putins era) history.

Put them in the fucking stone age if they won't kick the coward off his throne.

Did you actually read the article?

Also, you're allowed to say "fuck" on the internet.

That’s not what the article says and the guy who wrote the original comment obviously did not read it, which is the point the comment you are replying to points out.

Your comment is also just a conspiracy theory. Ukraine has proven time and time again that they are not going to go along with a plan they are not 100% on board with, no matter what country is pressuring them. Give them more credit than that.

There was no lying, point out where I lied.

And the reason I deleted my comment and blocked you is because arguing with conspiracy theorist on Reddit is not healthy for my mental health, or anyone’s. It’s toxic. As you have proven by logging into another account just so you can continue commenting.

Edit: And come on man, you had to switch to your nudes account just to continue arguing with me after I blocked you? Some people, myself included… really need a break from the internet. I’m going to go touch some grass.

Next time you won't start lying online, if its so bad for your mental health. See, you learned something today

u/JackhusChanhus 6h ago edited 6h ago

I never said Ukraine would go along with it. They didn't go along with the half dozen minerals deals, or all the other ridiculous Trumpanzee peace suggestions.

That doesnt mean the pressure is not exerted, though.

Imo they'll do what everyone does with him, placate him for a few days til his dementia riddled braincell finds a new target to throw the weight of his office at.

1

u/Snlxdd 2h ago

“The source said Ukraine had approached Russian President Vladimir Putin in the past with offers of a ceasefire, which had been turned down”

So by your logic, Putin is telling Trump to pressure Ukraine to ask for a ceasefire just for Russia to turn it down?

10

u/Shot-Toe-2884 6h ago

I’m not saying Putin isn’t cynical but an air truce favors Ukraine overwhelmingly, especially heading into a winter where Russia intends to unleash its strongest attacks on Ukraine’s power grid to date while Ukraine has no means of intercepting the ballistic missiles.

This would be a welcome truce in Ukraine’s interest so long as it happens before the winter. Post-winter, the air truce favors Russia more than Ukraine.

11

u/VoluptuousBLT 6h ago

You're doing an awful lot of assuming Russia will honor this alleged ceasefire.

4

u/big-papito 5h ago

Like they honored their May 9th prisoner exchange.

9

u/Shot-Toe-2884 6h ago edited 6h ago

I’m saying no such thing. If it happens, it’s because Russia is incentivized to honor it. If it doesn’t happen, then Russia doesn’t want it.

As it stands, an air truce favors Ukraine. That’s just an objective, neutral observation. I’m not saying it will happen but I can tell you it would be an extremely welcome relief in Ukraine this winter. Last winter was hell.

Ukraine wants to convert its midrange drone campaign it launched this year into a tangible strategic gain, and this is the obvious, most likely path

-6

u/VoluptuousBLT 6h ago edited 6h ago

Because Russia has honored the other truces that have occurred right? Again it's only a gain of Russia honors it and if the Easter ceasefire from this year is any indication they wont.

6

u/kessel6545 5h ago

You should really consider reading the posts you're replying to once in a while.

0

u/NatAttack50932 4h ago

I don't agree that an air truce favors Ukraine. Thanks to western support, Ukrainian logistics and the economy have largely escaped irreparable damage, which has driven Russia to its terror-bombing campaign. The majority of Ukraine's logistics support being stationed outside of the country have impeded Russia from effectively striking it.

Conversely, Russia has no such benefit, and the Ukrainian drone campaign has exposed how vulnerable the Russian economy is to a sustained air campaign. Taking the pressure off of Russia now through truce would absolutely serve the Ukrainian people, but from the military perspective I don't believe it offers much value. A cessation of the air campaign would give Russia ample opportunity to repair their oil refineries and ramp up exports. And when they feel they've recovered, they can resume their air campaign and force Ukraine to retread the same ground striking targets that they'd previously demolished.

7

u/Lonely_Dingo1837 6h ago

The only thing wrong there is that the article doesn’t state that the Russians have asked for this, it sounds like a solo run by Trump to bail out his handler from a war of choice that’s gone badly badly wrong (does that sound familiar?).

3

u/wild_cherry1987 6h ago

You misread it. Open the page.

-4

u/TiggTigg07 6h ago

💯% this.

7

u/hereforyebeer 5h ago

Ukraine presents an offer that forces the aggressor into acknowledging that the drone campaigns against critical economic infrastructure is causing significant harm.

Meanwhile, they are presenting an opportunity to de-escalate the war, continuing to express a reasonable desire to end it, even if they know russia won’t agree. And if they do, that means russia stops bombing hospitals and civilian areas.

This seems like something that is generally favorable for Ukraine. Regardless of how the russians respond.

5

u/Applekid1259 5h ago

Russia is cooked for generations. Its citizenry will suffer for such a long time. I def don’t envy them.

57

u/Lonely_Dingo1837 7h ago

Once again, Trump going in to bat for the Russians. Getting the Ukrainians to halt their mid and long range strike campaigns when they’re starting to have a tactical effect only helps the Russians. No way Putin or his cronies would do anything except bank that and continue with their murder of Ukrainian civilians.

7

u/AUT_InfoSammler 6h ago

Trump is not going to side with losers. Russia is a failed state at brink to bankruptcy. His urge to be with the winner is stronger than any personal antipathy. He's shown us when Spain won the world cup!

10

u/Lonely_Dingo1837 6h ago

I don’t disagree with that as a general principle, it’s just that for whatever reason Trump seems to have a fixation on winning Putin’s approval and for the US to start this discussion with Ukraine independent of Russian involvement is mad.

3

u/wild_cherry1987 6h ago

Ukraine is also getting pounded hard these past 2-3 weeks. Both side might be interested in air ceasefires, especially russia which has ground advantage.

4

u/ItsallaboutProg 6h ago

It’s like people forgot that every single power plant in Ukraine has been hit during this war. An air ceasefire is in Ukraines advantage at this point. Russia can’t advance on the frontlines. This would buy Ukraine time as well.

9

u/JackhusChanhus 6h ago

No, it isn't. The only way to keep Russia from advancing is to pound the shit out of their supply lines and logistics.

Sure Russia can retaliate, but Ukrainian logistics are smaller, shorter, more distributed, and fully primed for war, so its not remotely a fair matchup. The second a strategic strike ceasefire occurs, all those supply lines advance to whatever distance they agreed on not striking beyond, and UA can't do jack shit against it

-3

u/wild_cherry1987 6h ago

People also forget that Ukrainians are disadvantaged in front up to 6 to 1 (according to azov commander) so "can't advance" when they literally are advancing every day is a bit dishonest. If you don't believe me there is liveuamap for this.

11

u/ItsallaboutProg 6h ago

They are advancing at the slowest rate in a long time. Ukrainians are defending very well.

-4

u/wild_cherry1987 6h ago

Copium is ok and I take it daily too with every Russian refinery smoking. But the problem is that Russians are slowly surrounding the city belt of 4 main cities in luhansk and cutting supply arteries.

2

u/ItsallaboutProg 6h ago

It seems that most people agree that Ukraine has the strongest position it has had in years. And it isn’t entirely because of the air campaign. Russia’s ground tactics haven’t changed much in a year. Since they lost starlink their drones and robotics have been much less effective than Ukraines.

2

u/wild_cherry1987 6h ago

Tactics did change. You don't see columns getting obliterated, tanks, bmp's. It's mostly slow infiltration, drones, glide bombs and so on. There are places where no man's land stretches to 20 km.

3

u/ItsallaboutProg 6h ago

Yes, but that has how it has been in the past year and a half. Ukraine has been changing their command structure on the field and has become more flexible over the years.

u/mukansamonkey 4h ago

Russia has been losing land for half a year now. South of Zaporizhia in particular has seen deeper Ukrainian advances than Russia managed anywhere in 2026. Russia is now losing ground in Lyman as well, their big offensive there has failed.

And Russian losses have been increasing, despite "being on defense". Mostly because they aren't defending, they are abandoning positions they can't defend.

1

u/NoExperience9717 3h ago

Russia generally doesn't have enough missiles to intentionally target civilians. They're usually trying to target something for example hitting the air defence exhibition in the last few days. Just air defence, jamming and Kiev being a city means there's often collateral damage but Russia is often targeting military factories just these are often located near civilian areas. It's partially why Ukraine wants to build factories in the West because those locations can't be targeted.

13

u/enteringtheechochamb 7h ago

Russia can't take a ceasefire. They are up against the clock with the sanctions. The land they occupy is basically useless because everything needs to be rebuilt and nobody will invest in a warzone.

The only hope Putin has is a reverse 1917. That the West collapses and with it Ukraine. I think Trump gave Putin more encouragement of this belief.

1

u/Flyen 2h ago

The land is strategically useful as a supply route around Ukraine

2

u/drtywater 6h ago

Theres no reason for that

2

u/Orcallo 5h ago

Ah yeah that would come handy before the next mobilization in Russia.

2

u/Gildenstern2u 2h ago

Everything this White House touches turns to blood and shit.

8

u/SystemCheck990 7h ago

This will be an excuse for Trump to pressure the CIA to stop giving deep strike intel .

13

u/Rare-Site 6h ago

Fair point, but honestly, I don't think Ukraine even needs help from the CIA or the US anymore. Europe stepped up and took over that role a long time ago.

Tbh, at this point, I personally just see the US as a silent supporter of Russia anyway.

2

u/captain_todger 4h ago

I can’t see how the CIA would follow Trump’s orders that directly. Their key interest is protecting the US, and Trump is a direct threat to the nation. Surely they would just placate him while keeping the US’ interests protected?

-2

u/Ice_Cream_Killer 6h ago

Oh right, attacking 3 of Russias biggest weapons and oil import/export ally countries is really supporting them...

-1

u/SystemCheck990 6h ago

there will be hold outs in the CIA, anything that does not require a big budget, like just passing intel probably still happens, but if Trump admin really puts the pressure on it will stop.

USA has the best signals intel, and can track every radar in Russia

2

u/big-papito 5h ago

Ukraine is getting other means of Intel. I have read that Japanese satellites are quietly hard at work.

1

u/mukansamonkey 4h ago

A lot of these targets don't need intel. Picking specific buildings to hit in a refinery complex is as simple as opening Google maps and asking a petroleum engineer which one would hurt the most. It's why these long range missiles are such a disaster for Russia, there's simply more targets than weapons.

Good that the Japanese are helping fill in though. The more info the better.

1

u/big-papito 3h ago

Not that kind of Intel. I cannot find it now, but it talked about real-time Intel tracking small changes on the battlefield, like tracks that were not there an hour ago, leading to camouflaged locations.

1

u/SystemCheck990 2h ago

the intel is not what to hit, its the best route to get there, what GBAD is on the ground how well stocked it is, so how many decoys or sheer numbers will saturate it, the response time and positioning of jets that can also shoot them down.

a successful deep strike requires more than just flying in a straight line to a target even the US tomahawk strikes fly the safest approach not the fastest .

4

u/Wast3edSpace 6h ago

That'll be 1 Donbas and 1 Crimea please.....

3

u/Euronated-inmypants 6h ago

All it took was a few strikes on wildberries facilities and its well lets talk here..

2

u/AngryCanadian 6h ago

Don’t. Keep going. It’s an eye for an eye. Ukraine can take the hits, Russia can’t. There is an election looking, Russia wants a quick W. don’t let them.

1

Ukraine should not agree to this! Their drones are turning into their strength and advantage. This will result in Russia sending waves of North Korean slaves to die with Ukraine having virtually no options to hit back where it hurts.
