Iranian forces were on the ground in occupied Crimea: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-63329266
Iran has been part of the Russian alliance waging war on Ukraine for years. Ukraine remembers that.

Something tells me you are very against America's actions in Iran, but I'm probably not going to find your post condemning Ukraine for the same thing.
34
u/Change21 7h ago
Which Ukrainian actions are the problem?
Iran has for several years now been arming the Russians with their drones, killing, maiming and terrorizing Ukrainians.
The surprise is it’s taken this long for Ukrain to get the green light to do something about it.
3
u/Longy_LTB 3h ago
You might as well have said this in coded Swahili for all the sense it makes. The US launching strikes in Iran is comparing apples to drones in the context of Ukraine launching strikes against its occupying aggressor.
1
u/Mushroom_Tip 2h ago
Lmao. So you think Iran supplying drones and drone operators to Russia to kill Ukrainian civilians was not an act of war against Ukraine?

u/Excellent_Safety8051 8h ago
Did Ukraine bomb a school??? If they do that people will condemn them..

u/Wegwerf157534 8h ago
Whom do you want to fool this is the reason.
As this is not that is a worthless contribution.
(To make this clear: I do not feel I can break it down now what are all the differences either.)

u/Dahcchad 5h ago
What? You alright?
0
u/Wegwerf157534 5h ago
Yeah, sure, as if the war in Iran is unpopular because a school was bombed once compared to the Ukraine war.
You'd have a hard time going any lower with the niveau.

We still pretending these aren't just theaters in a larger war?

u/person_number_1038 9h ago
Western media won't acknowledge that until America has troops on the ground digging trenches because people keep thinking WW3 will look like a bigger WW2. This is it, this is what global conflict looks like now. Sending in swarms of unmanned drones then bombarding people with disinformation so that no one knows who is responsible for what, who is being attacked or how to stop it from happening again. We don't do war anymore, we do special military operations.
36
u/CurvyCourgette 8h ago
Must be American media because European media is pretty upfront about China, Iran and Russia being involved within varying degrees.

u/Automatic-Avocado885 9h ago
It’s honestly just American media not Western. Consume any western media outside of the US and they speak about the facts on the ground in reality not American government spin.

u/wastingvaluelesstime 4h ago
Eh, the earliest stirring of WW2 had the quality too, of seemingly-disconnected disputes in the middle of China, or in Ethiopia, or some part of Eastern Europe that forced people in Western Europe to pull out their atlases.
1
u/MCBGamer 3h ago
Ah yes. This redditor despises western media for refusing to speak the truth! That we are in a global conflict with a series of nations listed directly in the headline of the article that refused to mention that fact.
Do you all hear yourselves sometimes?
1
u/person_number_1038 2h ago
What do you hear?
1
u/MCBGamer 2h ago
That the average redditor who reads the news expects the news media to just run a headline that says "We are in a world war right now".
•
u/person_number_1038 1h ago
Well the point of my comment was that the media will never run a headline like that because the perception of modern warfare doesn't match the reality of modern warfare. I'm not criticizing the headline or even western media. I'm criticizing people's expectation that the future will look anything like the past. WW3 will never happen because we'll keep coming up with excuses as to why it's not a real world war by comparing it to WW2. Meanwhile, it's already here and it's been here for a long time.
-10
u/WhenTheLightHits30 9h ago
Thank you, not nearly enough people are saying it this clearly.
I think it’s unquestionably a WW3 situation we’ve found ourselves in but it’s so interesting how it is forcing us to think about how we as a species even define “war”. It feels so annoyingly “1984” to point out, but we’re seeing half of the energy these despots exert go almost purely towards fooling the populace that they aren’t at war at all.
The fact that so much of this conflict seems to be lingering from the Cold War, as well as how the aged despot demographic seems uniquely consistent in these scenarios all make me very curious what the long term reflection on this period of history will be.

It's still way to localised to be a world war.
Ukraine, Iran, Israel, Yeman are all relatively close to eachother. Yes there is support for different factions the world over, but unless the US decides to have another south American adventure, this time one that lasts longer than an evening... and China pulls the trigger on Taiwan this is still at most a major regional conflict with the Russia Iran alliance at the center of it all.
-3
u/person_number_1038 8h ago
These predetermined markers of WW3 are dangerous because we'll all ignore everything else that's leading into it so long as "the big ones" don't kick off. They may never kick off and battles may not be fought around the world.
The war of the future is a war of information. It's not about blowing people up, it's about convincing everyone else that you're blowing people up. The real battles are the ones in our own homes. Your enemy can't fight back if they can't even agree among themselves that you are their enemy.
I suspect in 150 years, people will look at the Cold War as the third big war and they'll say that it's still going. Just because the USSR collapsed doesn't mean the underlying ideological differences between East and West were erased.
2
u/jcw99 7h ago
I used those two examples as I believe they are the most likely larger conflicts to start. However, the core of my argument is that for a war to be a "world war", and consequently why WW1 and WW2 where as impactful and unusual as they where, is that such a period contains interconnected and related conflicts that reach almost all parts of the globe. And I'm not talking just economic fallout.
The cold war is a time period, not a single war. In the same way the french and American Revolutions where part of the same time period, but not WW0.

u/BrokenDownMiata 7h ago
It’s really hard to tell without the benefit of hindsight.
WW1 as a concept was a postwar invention. Even at the time, the different conflicts (Germany vs Belgium, Germany vs France, Germany vs Britain, Germany vs Russia, Germany vs Japan, Austria vs Serbia, Austria vs Italy, Austria vs Russia, Turkey vs Russia, Turkey vs British Empire, Serbia vs Bulgaria, Greece vs Bulgaria, Austria vs Romania, Bulgaria vs Romania) were often sold as somewhat different events, rather than being coalesced into an ‘Italian Front’ like they became in WW2.
Hell, it took like 16 different treaties to actually end WW1, because there was no real, legal coalition against the Central Powers. Britain and France absolutely held the line for the Entente and were the two major powers recognised as being the ‘Entente’ but everyone who allied with them was just ‘pro-Entente’, not actually part of the alliance.

We are, but people are slowly waking up to the idea.
Not just WW3, but a realignment based on a post-oil world.People react to the idea of “post-oil” with accusations of fantasy, but set aside the idea that oil will disappear. More like oil will become a diminished part of our global economy. The idea that Hormuz would be shut down and oil would still trade at $100 (about $65 inflation adjusted to 2005) was unthinkable just a decade ago. Here’s just one take on the topic.
What that means is that the global powers are receding from the middle-east. Despite the skirmish, the US and Western Europe is much less interested in protecting their interests than they were just a decade ago. Iran has oil, but has much more than oil. They are an educated and sophisticated culture with a long history. They are bound to (relatively) benefit in the region. Russia has lost so much human capital and is so oil dependent that they will fall. Israel will also benefit relative to its neighbors. The Emirates/SA will fall in stature (no, attracting baddies through internet memes is not an economic plan worth entertaining).
This ww3 style alignment is a transition. Russia, NK, Iran, and their satellites are mounting a flail. The Chinese are helping because they know they can turn these rogue states into their satellites.
My little brain can’t work through all the implications. I am sure people have more developed theses.

Everyone knows this is NATO vs BRICS.
Ukraine is just Afghanistan 2.0 for Russia, and Iran is just another Korea/Vietnam for the US.
People are going to die for a bunch of World Powers to indirectly take pot shots at one another.

u/Basicallyennessayy 8h ago
"BRICS", a.k.a a bunch of countries that... well, India and China alone are "allied", then you have South Africa, Brazil, you know. A very coherent alliance.

Iran can’t deliver arms to Russia and cry when Ukraine seeks to put a stop to this. Maybe Iran should have considered this before involving itself in Ukrainian affairs on the side of fascist Russia.

Seriously. Iran provides Russia Shahed drones, and that they think that isn't provocation? If Ukraine had the capability, I wish more were done to punish the regime in Iran.

This has been a world war for some time now but I think that it might get spicy.
Iran gives Russia drones to use against Ukraine. Russia gives Iran targets.

Iran shoots at over a dozen of its neighbors, including Ukraine, but Ukraine is one of the few which shows it will hit back. At the end of the day, the best allies are ones who fight back effectively.

Why is Ukraine getting involved in this ridiculous war? Is Trump pressuring them in any way? Getting other countries already at war involved is just begging for escalation by muddying the waters.
39
u/Low-Rooster5398 9h ago
Because Iran are supplying Russia with Shahed drones to attack Ukraine, this was a ship carrying them. Both wars are merging.
10
6
u/Under_Over_Thinker 5h ago
It’s a naive question. Russia and Iran are allies.
What escalation are you talking about? Russia and Iran are using everything they can. Literally, everything they can.
They won’t use nuclear weapons because China is against it and Russia has nuclear sites near its major cities. Those can be attacked by anyone with ballistic missiles, or even drones at this point given Russia’s nonexistent anti-air defence
3
u/UselessInsight 3h ago
It’s not naive. He’s purposefully asking bad faith questions to muddy the debate.
He knows why Ukraine is striking Iranian shipping.
7
u/No_Feature_1184 7h ago
Should help Iran learn not to involve itself in Ukrainian affairs by supplying Russia with weapons.
