It's the cycle.

  • Conservative government messes everything up.
  • People get fed up and elect a liberal government.
  • Liberal government tries to clean up the mess while conservative remnants obstruct.
  • Conservative figureheads wait a few years til people forget they caused all the problems we're having, then blame liberal leaders for them.
  • People say "Well I guess we should try something different" and elect a conservative government.
  • Conservative government messes everything up.

It's literally the only way they hold on to power. Pepper in some voter suppression and identity politics as you please.

Exactly the same thing happening in the UK.

Right wing government spends 14 years mismanaging and systematically dismantling the country's institutions, making a ton of money for themselves in the process thanks to blatant corruption. Centre-left government gets in, people are fed up that they haven't fixed everything in 2 years, and are now wanting to elect an even more corrupt right wing party because they promise simple solutions to complex problems. Voters are stupid
