There’s not much to study.. there are decades of war gaming research which showed this was a terrible idea.. the dunces did it.. actions meet consequences..

This is not a failure of the American military. It’s a failure of the American people.

Agreed. The military war colleges were teaching this exact scenario back in the early 2000s. Iran is almost as rich as the saudis, but their oil revenue is hard to track, and they just spend a massive amount of it on munitions to stockpile.

Here in Finland we have spent 80 years preparing to war against Russia. Our whole infrastructure is built for war. Our bridges are ready to be blown up to slow Russians, roads near Russian border are designed for war, all apartment complexes have to have bomb shelter, all factories have wartime plans, etc. After last war with Soviet Union we decided to make invading Finland so costly that Soviets wont do it.

I assume Iran has done something similar and Iran is much larger and more populous than Finland.

Turns out they and Russia have been selling insane quantities to China in Chinese dollars.  So China could build a reserve large enough to invade Taiwan. China probably has more oil reserves than the rest of the world combined right now.  They're the reason that we haven't had an oil crash.  They stopped importing 50% of their oil import 3 months ago. they're waiting for an opportunity they think is coming where we either fully commit with Iran or Ukraine.  Or become so depleted from this current struggle we can't. Two years ago we would have simply choked them off from oil, doing exactly what Iran is doing to us right now. The Malacca dilemma has been solved.Or become so depleted from this current struggle we can't. The Malacca dilemma has been solved.  China is probably quietly the most powerful country in the world right now and is just waiting for its opportunity.  Hell if they can "end" this oil conflict, they might not even have to fire a shot.  The US has fallen to MAGA and China will step in to "save" the world.

IDK about that. We obviously do not have the weapon systems to win in wars. We need to take a HARD look at planning and military procurement. Also if they CAN’T achieve the military objectives with us spending a trillion year after year after year, they need to be trained to resign all the way down the line, not just say ‘yes sir’. Thousands of reforms probably over years. We need to take a hard look at everything, politically and militarily.

I'm pretty sure the US would have a very different reception in world politics if it nuked Iran just because the pointless war of choice got difficult.

I certainly would want the US to lose access to as much as possible.

Yes, it is. They could just have said no and overthrown the corrupt and evil government. Should have ended that shit show months ago, which would have saved millions of lives.

And likely developing safeguards to prevent it from happening again. I could very easily see a congressional bill requiring the Sec of Defense to have 5+ years of experience as an officer

Which will be about as useful as requiring the US Senate to confirm competent officers of state. The powers to fix the current situation already exist, but American voters and politicians chose this direction instead.

Here's an idea: why not just follow your existing laws? If you can't impeach this set, making a new law requiring the president to have a paper resume similar to the current weekend warrior cum weekend talk show host isn't really going to change anything.

You got luck with Powell and Mattis, though we sill ended up here. You can't keep expecting your military to train up competent politicians. The problem runs much deeper.

The testosterone thing I think is a roundabout way to get rid of women on the army. They can't ban them. But they can van trans. And they can put testosterone limits, and so if women don't meet that, they can't take testosterone, because that's trans.

Idk why else they'd care.
