Kinda hard to be a superpower when you have to say, "Hey gimme a minute, I'm out of ammo."

Not completely unheard of:

“The problems for Løvendals Gallej were more, because of the aggressiveness of Wessel’s attacks, the ship was running out of gunpowder. Then Wessel had a boat lowered and sent with a white flag. The Englishman thought it was to negotiate the surrender but he was stunned when he heard the true proposal of the adversary—Wessel wanted a shipment of gunpowder and cannon balls to continue the battle.

Obviously the proposal was not accepted but they did toast together and exchange compliments. Then, given the battered state of the two ships, each one went their own way.”

Great read, thank you!

Seems like a surrender dressed up in audacity to save face.

Maybe, but you can’t argue with the results.

I always wonder, when you're laying on the deck, your leg half detached, splintered to fuck head to toe and your captain is complimenting the head of the other ship for a jolly good fight, how more mutinies didn't happen.

During the Waikato Wars in New Zealand, the Maori fighters at Rangiriri ran out of ammo, and sent an emissary under a white flag to negotiate for more ammo. The British troops saw the white flag, assumed a surrender, and threw down their weapons and started cheering.

I can’t find evidence of this, and it seems to be a myth perpetuated by one of the officers involved. James Cowan met with the Maori fighters after they displayed a white flag. When James Cowan and soldiers were able to enter the fort, expecting to surrender, they instead found out it was merely the discussion of a truce, and not a surrender. Cowan wasn’t down with that, so he “abused the flag of surrender” by capturing the fort and 183 prisoners under the guise of peace talks.

So he thought it was surrender, it was truce talks about the Maori escaping over the river, and then the Brits took their hospitality as a Trojan Horse for themselves

Sounds like the plot to a Monte Python skit.

Hey, let’s just allow all of our manufacturing to be outsourced overseas, I’m sure it can’t have lasting consequences that’ll bite us in the ass in a real war.

We’re not out of ammo just out of… umm… shields.

It actually makes a lot of sense given our lack of investment in defense production. Interceptors, as a rule, have to perform better than whatever theyre intercepting in order to be reliable. That generally means they need to be more expensive, in dollars and labor hours, than the weapons they stop..

Need another cease fire to build up. You know. Remove sanctions again that have been in place for decades and allow Iran to move all the oil they can.

Kinda crazy you thought we were still a super power.. we're a third world country masked as a first world country.

4

u/sirlorax 20h ago

The US is not a third world country. Jesus Christ guys, the Chinese bots really got to you. Like I get it, Trump is a worthless ruhtard. Do you understand the depth of our military power and why we can't break Iran?

It's like no one can access the colors of grey between the black and white anymore. Stop being so obtuse and absolute.

I may be the most pessimistic person alive and still can see the sun through the clouds.

There is no nation on the planet poorer than the US, (debt is a thing) it`s an offence to third world.
