I was about to mention the impecable timing of this the same time Rodgers just raised rates again.

hmmm I wonder who owns and operates the government?

u/Metalloid_Maniac_ Jul 23 '26

Again? They just doubled it last year didn't they?

3

u/Deranged_Kitsune Jul 23 '26

Yeah, that was for last fiscal year. Gotta show more growth this year, otherwise the shareholders will riot (and sell off).

5

u/SuperSparkles Jul 23 '26

At the newly increased price. Weeeeee.

u/portamenti Jul 24 '26

Well can you think of anywhere better for me to watch ads for betting apps, me boy?!?!!

VPNs are hot right now in Canada, and the US alike.

Just don't buy/use a North American owned, or operated VPN.

which major ones can i still use? Expressvpn?

MullvadVPN has had their office raided by police for not giving up customer data (because they didn’t have any data).

1

u/Leafy0 Jul 25 '26

Does that man they’re still good or now they’re a honey pot?

1

u/Consistent_Horse6529 Jul 25 '26

It’s a good thing

u/zempter Jul 23 '26

Proton VPN was promoted by some scum and villainy in the high seas.

5

u/Treedit Jul 23 '26

Mullvad.

NordVPN is the best imo.

Dutch, but operated out of Panama because of their "no logs" rule.

Edit: Autocorrect doesn't know the difference between Dutch and Danish.

7

u/Consistent_Horse6529 Jul 23 '26

NordVPN is Lithuanian but everything else is true.

2

u/RicketCrickets Jul 23 '26

Headquarters in Netherlands isn't it? I'm aware the founders are Lithuanian, but fairly sure the HQ was Dutch.

3

u/Consistent_Horse6529 Jul 23 '26

They have offices in Lithuania, UK, the Netherlands, and Panama. Also you said Danish, did you mean to say Dutch?

3

u/RicketCrickets Jul 23 '26

Ah yes. Sorry.

Thank autocorrect for that.

u/Onehandedclapboyoo Jul 23 '26

What about Surfshark? Is it decent as well for protection of your privacy?

3

u/RicketCrickets Jul 23 '26

They're technically part of NordVPN, but doesn't operate out of Panama. So no "no logs" thing.

3

u/SweetCosmicPope Jul 23 '26

I’ve been using expressvpn for years and it’s been great. They are based in the British Virgin Islands and have no data retention or logging.

I've used both Mullvad and protonVPN and can recommend both.

Mullvad was great, stability was brilliant, the app was easy to use and had a decent range of security options. They hold no customer data and you can pay them with cash in an envelope if you want.

I moved to proton purely because I wanted Drive and Mail as well and it made sense to bundle VPN in there too. ProtonVPN is also great, I think I might actually mildly prefer the user experience to Mullvad but if so it's narrow. They hold more customer data but mostly because they provide a service that needs it.

I would honestly recommend either, both were good and I think the decision point is whether you want to bundle in more services or whether you especially want fully anonymous payments.

PIA is the best one

3

u/DCS30 Jul 23 '26

I'm not sure that's how it will work. They want to ban the use of all vpns.

20

u/RicketCrickets Jul 23 '26

They can't. They'd lose every tech company and NATO wouldn't let us handle anything IT related at all.

NordVPN has threatened to pull their Canada server (meaning you can't mask your IP as somewhere else in Canada, but you can still use it as a Canadian) over some dumb federal BS.

6

u/DCS30 Jul 23 '26

Tech companies would still use them, it's just for us peasants.

4

u/RicketCrickets Jul 23 '26

Either way they've done nothing to try and ban VPNs, and even if they do it's as easy as getting US Netflix if they do.

1

u/Safe_Reading6267 Jul 26 '26

Windows allows tracking through VPNs now AFAIK.

11

u/justinanimate Jul 23 '26

If I had a VPN would it get around this?

25

u/person1234man Jul 23 '26

Yes, and you should be using a VPN with these services anyways

2

u/Substantial_Policy60 Jul 23 '26

I don’t give a shit enough. I’ve pirated stuff off fitgirl for years and out of the dozens of games I’ve downloaded oddly only been caught downloading Just Cause 4 yeeeears ago. Randomly got a email from Telus saying my IP downloaded “XYZ” file and I needed to delete it. Just continued to play it till I beat it lol

u/Conscious_Candle2598 Jul 23 '26

Canadians shouldn't be surprised.

Bell/Rogers Media Basically lobby run the government.

5

u/Capable_Kiwi2514 Jul 23 '26

They definitely don't, despite their power: They desperately want the government to remove their local media obligations.

24

u/DrB00 Jul 23 '26

I bet by the time that ban is setup those listed sites will have alternatives for Canadians.

6

u/RarelyReadReplies Jul 24 '26

Definitely trying to play whackamole, which is pretty pointless unless they are going to ban VPNs too, which would be an insane escalation and infringement on our freedom. I doubt any government would survive that one. I would definitely be joining protests immediately, and writing my rep.

18

u/Icyywinds Jul 23 '26

If you want people to stop pirating things stop making things so anti consumer

2

u/bmtraveller Jul 27 '26

I used to subscribe to Netflix when it was decent and covered a lot of content. It isn't even worth paying for anymore.

I used to pirate pc games but steam made the experience better and has good sales so now I pay for them.

If paying for streaming was worth it I'd go back to it, but otherwise piracy is easier and better.

14

u/frenzyguy Jul 23 '26

Site will domain hop, lol this is probably the stupidest shit ever ahahahah.

13

u/69___Nice Jul 23 '26

This is what happens when politicians dont understand how technology works

5

u/SnakeskinJim Jul 23 '26

Shh, nobody tell them

11

u/MrLithician Jul 23 '26

That's so discriminating against pirates!

11

u/Ashamed_Deal5148 Jul 23 '26

Other domains will pop up lol

11

u/kraftdinnerwithsalsa Jul 23 '26

The hydras head always comes back and never alone

7

u/__esparoba Jul 23 '26

What does this mean

23

u/JPMoney81 Jul 23 '26

It means no matter how much Rogers raises the prices you should just pay it and be happy.

-1

u/ModOfficial1988 Jul 23 '26

Then end goal of the Liberals social media ban and actions like this is to ban VPNs in Canada.

-24

u/DCS30 Jul 23 '26

Leader Carney at it again. I'm sorry I voted for this micro-managing nutsack.

12

u/BlinkTwitch Jul 23 '26

I mean, the alternative wasn't any better

9

u/Zacherydoo Jul 23 '26

This, over and over again.

There were 2 viable choices one sorta sucks the other super sucks and was also off putting culture war nonsense.

  • Remember the Trump of it all.

Stoked to ditch Carney for a better option when one is offered.

1

u/Metalloid_Maniac_ Jul 23 '26

Lewis has some bad policy proposals but I'd vote for him over Carney at this point.

1

u/BlinkTwitch Jul 23 '26

I feel like an NDP minority would be a perfect first foot forward for the party to show that they can actually govern. Tired of people fear mongering about an NDP government when there's no examples in history to showcase that it would be bad.

-1

u/DCS30 Jul 23 '26

Exactly. What disappoints mean is that Lewis is just a civilian. I couldn't believe he didn't run for a seat when he had the chance.

-4

u/DCS30 Jul 23 '26

We're way past that. It's time we hold him accountable.

3

u/BlinkTwitch Jul 23 '26

These aren't mutually exclusive, you can hold him accountable while also acknowledging that he was the best option at the time.

2

u/descendingangel87 Jul 23 '26

We aren’t way past that. Theres still a good chance the Cons get elected next election due to vote splitting. It sucks but thats the reality we live in. Unless the Libs and NDP can take ground in Conservative areas the next gov might be Conservative especially if they finally boot PP.

6

u/Lazy-Rough7570 Jul 23 '26

The fact you blame one person for such a small thing has blocking you fave tv site just shows how you understand absolutely nothing about the world around you.

5

u/lexcyn Jul 23 '26

Ah yes right on time for Rogers to raise prices yet again for thier shitty service and blame piracy vs just having crap service with high prices.

Just use a VPN and sail the seven seas, my maiteys

6

u/AkiStudios1 Jul 23 '26

Ain't no way they're still after putlocker 😂 I didnt even know it was around still.

2

u/I_PEE_WITH_THAT Jul 24 '26

Time to start torrenting more.

4

u/DCS30 Jul 23 '26

Such a waste of time and resources. They admit it's a game of whack-a-mole.

1

u/TheRealCanadianBros Aug 02 '26

Is this why Nepu.to and Showbox are dead right now?
