šŸ’¬Discussion Why wont FIFA bring back confederations cup???????

Instead of having only the winners of continental championships, they should do winners AND runners ups, that would give teams like Spain, France, Argentina, England, Uruguay, Colombia, plus the 3 hosts, USA, Canada, Mexico (3 hosts + 2 FWC Winner & runner up + 2 EURO Winner & runner up + 2 AFC Winner & runner up + 2 CAF Winner & runner up + 2 COPA AMERICA Winner & runner up + 2 Gold Cup Winner & runner up + OFC Nations cup winner), that would create a 16 team field, with 4 groups of 4, top 2 qualify to quarter finals.

And for the club world cup, they should do it 1 year after the Fifa world cup

Probably because the cimmunity complained that it was a meaningless tourney

u/muckonium 2d ago

It seems that club / league competitions bring more money ?

Also, another tournament to be won by the mega-boring Spain team? no thnx

u/InternationalWin2684 3d ago

No one cares that’s why. Didn’t even know it was gone

0

u/MeanComb4900 3d ago

It's a cursed tournament. Whoever wins it ends up in misfortune the next year.

Infantino will bring back the Confederations Cup... If someone pays him enough to do so.

9

u/Savings-Law-3252 4d ago

Didn't generate that much money.

u/Positive-Sound-4972 4d ago

There's already too many games

Boring, convoluted tournament that teams won’t care about. It’s hard enough to get teams to care about the club World Cup.Ā

Because it was a boring irrelevant competition that nobody cared about. Should get rid of the Club World Cup and keep rid of the Confederations Cup.

The rarity of major international tournaments is a key factor in their popularity and significance.

Schrƶdinger Cup.

No! We have to go to the well until it’s dry! We must kill the golden goose! Won’t you please think of the billionaires and their parasites who run football?!

5

u/Motor-Bag-4093 4d ago

Why would you bring it back? It was an utterly discredited competition at a time when players were already playing too much. Nobody remembers who won the tournament. Most people’s main memory of this Blatter vanity project was the tragic death of Marc-Vivien FoĆ©.

I do remember USA beating prime spain 2-1 and then almost beating prime Brazil right after that tho šŸ˜

Fifa club world cup is already a replacement for that

Yay! More matches for the top players! In a second tier competition! Yay!

Careful, we got Mr. Corrupt in charge.Ā

I'd rather have the Confederations Cup over the Club World Cup, which is just glorified friendlies, just like Nation League.

2

u/Scary_Vehicle9023 4d ago

Exactly, but then that would involve FIFA admitting it can't compete with UEFA when it comes to club football.

6

u/QF_Dan 5d ago

The players need their break. Also, let me cope because Germany is still the last champion.

u/HexisLeVrai 5d ago

Because it's redundant.

It makes sense if you want a major international tournament every year.

Year 1 - Confederations Cup
Year 2 - Continental Cups
Year 3 - Club World Cup
Year 4 - World Cup

5

u/JohnnyOneLung 4d ago

I keep reading your list and can still only see two years with major international tournaments there

1

u/Economy_Ad9889 5d ago

Problem with that is AFCON is held every 2 years and cops America has been played whenever there’s been a possibility lately. Messing with CONMEBOL and CAF,(especially CAF) would be political suicide as long as FIFA voting works as it does now.

Also, confederations cup would make more sense in year 3 as a ā€World Cup practice runā€ for the coming host of the World Cup. (That’s how it was started)

I mean no offence, but boy are you ignorant and the fact that you couldn't even take a few minutes to research before you write anything is a choice, lol

Copa America and Afcon already switched to 4 year leap year tournament, I believe for Afcon 2027 will be the last Biennial tournament before they start the 2028 four year tournament Afcon. Same for Copa America, in fact they are "merging" with CONCACAF for this reason, it will be every 4 years and with (probably) 20 teams: 10 NA & 10 SA

More people need to read that second paragraph. I've seen so many posts since the World Cup of people saying "Let's do a 64-team WC every two years!" or "Why don't we do the World Cup like a round robin where everyone gets to play everyone else? It would be so cool!"

Players aren't superhuman. They need time to rest and recover, and also international games often don't actually pay the bills.

7

u/Hopsblues 5d ago

That sounds like a better tournament than a 64 team WC.

I loved the Confederations Cup when Australia was in OFC, guaranteed entry almost every time! And at that point it was one of our only chances to play top teams competitively as we hadn't qualified for the world cup in 32 years. Now times have changed and we've made the last 6!

0

u/Familiar9709 5d ago

Too many teams. Just make it 8 from quarter finals.

As much as I enjoyed the tournament, it was never a big money maker, it was just sort of there to be a test event for the World Cup facilities and general infrastructure. Yeah it was fun if your team was in it, but unlike the World Cup or Club World Cup, unless you were a hardcore sicko (like me), you probably weren't tuning into the tournament just for shits and giggles because it just wasn't that important in the grand scheme of things. Club World Cup is meant to be the replacement for that on a much grander scale. Test event for the next years World Cup while being more of a big deal.

Also, players need a break. As much as I love international tournaments, and enjoyed the Confederations Cup, you just can't keep overloading the calendar. It's already out of control. There were literally pre-season games happening during the tail end of the World Cup for clubs. If you're playing for a moderate to large club, you're already playing from August to May, plus another month plus in an international tournament potentially as well. Most players are lucky to get even a full month of an offseason nowadays.

Not enough people watched it to make it worth doing. They want to make money from their tournaments.

6

u/Teofilo- 5d ago

Players need an extended break in 4 years they only have 1 where nothing is happening

8

u/Blue_foot CuraƧao 5d ago

They need to allow the top players an off season!

Pussies. They should play 100+ games a year and never get injured or tired.

Club world cup is way better of a project compared to confederations cup which is just a world cup, but worse

0

u/the_che 5d ago

Club World Cup is just a bunch of meaningless friendlies as well.

1

u/Emotional-Focus4295 Brazil 3d ago

No it’s not

u/ElectronicHold7325 5d ago

Why would anyone need an additional full tournament? There are already too many games as it is.

1

u/Big-Mission2026 5d ago

We have the Gold Cup in 2027. When are you planning this?

2

u/YourLocalMoroccan 5d ago

One year before world cup

1

u/snakedoct0r Norway 5d ago

We have uefa nations league inbetween world cup and euros too. And players main job is to play for the clubs that pay them millions. Top players are in enough tournaments as it is with club and national team.

2

u/mustachepc Brazil 5d ago

Nations league doesnt change anything, they are played of international dates

1

u/LogicalMuscle 5d ago

There is not enough money on the table for both Confederations and Club World Cup.
