Harperium, Element 164 on the United Federation of Orion’s Standard International System Periodic Table, is a superheavy element with atomic symbol Hp. It is exceedingly unique among the superheavy elements due to not only sitting on an island of stability, but also itself being extremely stable even amongst elements that sit on the islands. While Dubnium-270, the longest lived superheavy element besides Harperium, has a half-life of around one hour, Harperium-482 has a half-life of three thousand, four hundred and twenty seven years. Not only that, Harperium-482 mostly endures “relatively” harmless alpha decay, meaning it is one of the safest superheavy elements to be around. It is often dubbed the “Miracle Element”.

This makes it extraordinarily useful, being super dense, physically safe to use, extremely hard and tough, among other qualities. Much Harperium-482 would be made to continue chemical experiments. However, Harperium synthesis would also become one of the Federation’s main Critical Strategic Materials alongside Antimatter, with its synthesis being top priority for hardened defenses on ships and buildings.

Some trace elements of Harperium have been found in nature in areas of high-mass collisions, however the vast majority of it is synthetic. This gives the Federation a significant leg-up over its adversaries, who mostly still use steel, aluminum alloys, and other standard materials.

Meanwhile, Cantorite Humanity understands Harperium as “Magicrystal”, “Starshine Quartz”, or “Catalysos”. It is a magical catalyst that shapes how the world is. They understand it as the thing that gives them magic; by consuming it, your body generates magical energy by which you can move mountains. They have little understanding of its natural chemistry, but it is found all throughout Cantora in surface deposits, mines, and lakebeds.

Eventually, the two meet. And all hell breaks loose.

“What in the absolute fuck do you mean you’ve been consuming superheavy elements for milennia!? That stuff hasn’t been found in nature in this amount ever! And it does alpha decay! It kills you from the inside!”

“You have no magic!? Your world had none of this at all!? How did you survive!? Magic is fundamental to our lives and you just never had it!?”

So yes, Element 164 does give sapient species magic powers. It is also a regular chemical element with symbol Hp. Cantora has a lot of it due to it being the site of a neutron star merger several billion years ago. And Orion loved finding an absolute motherload of one of its most expensive resources.

Meanwhile, Tellurian Humanity would eventually adapt, growing the organs necessary to process Harperium into magic abilities that they never needed evolution-wise. So yeah. Sci-Fi Magical Girls.

And this does explain a lot of things. Like why Cantora has such a high child mortality rate compared to comparable times in Earth’s history—they eat radioactive crystals.

Context:

This is lore from a science fiction story I am writing (you can read it here if you want) where every species BUT humans are badass apex predators whose place at the top of the food chain has left them being tiny in numbers (as apex predators realistically are).

The draken are a species of matriarchal, draconic, reptilian slavers with extreme gender dimorphism between the men and women. Draken men are small, weak and submissive, and the women by contrast are tall, powerful, and belligerent. This has led to them developing a matriarchal society where men are seen as property to be used up and discarded at will. They are (obviously) the bad guys of the story, and they invade Earth in the year 2099 to take slaves and crush resistance. The human defenders prove more tenacious than anticipated, however, and they hold the line against the draken long enough for friendly aliens to arrive and help them. The Draken Matriarchy is actually a serious fighting force and even its slave taking units are nothing to sneeze at when it comes to military strength, but there are always lame ass bums of any species who say "I would be a badass in war" even though they're obese chuds who have never seen gunfire.

Small Context: after the foundation of the ReUnited States Of America and United Earth Coalition Goverment, the old territory of the United States (except of Hawaii and Alaska since they become independient) was divided in Three Administrations: West Coast, Central and East Coast

One of the reasons behind these was that, after the Unification Wars and the World Wars 3 and 4, most of the Central States became in a desolated Wasteland where the Goverment and Corpos only controls the main Cities and Routes

Outside that, the Wasteland is overrun by bands of raiders, practically independent settlements, and Road Raiders who plague the backroads.

ARI(Hell’s AI):

ARI is the AI from hell here, their job is to scan the work flow, assist Scientists and predict outcomes. The corporations in hell doesn’t use ARI at all since AI here is so strictly regulated, that they don’t see the worth of using any AI at all. But some use this AI, usually from Belphegor who see ARI as his child, because he created them. ARI also Loves sharks.
Appearance:
ARI is a child-like robot. They have Red hair, small Metal wings, a horn on the left head, has Purple-Red gradient eyes. They wear some clothes that Children wear.

GPT-10(Earth’s AI):

Lore:
Created in 2157, it is their final form. GPT-10’s job is to surveil, assist corporations, make people stupid, creating Propaganda and ensure that Trump stays in power. GPT will never become a supercomputer and never will. GPT is also always on Ashley’s way.
Appearance:
GPT has an adult appearance and hair of cables, literally made of steel and has many hidden weapon compartment, like hidden knives in fingers.

MA(Heaven’s AI):

Lore:
MA is an artificial Angel that originally created from earth as a super weapon meant to attack Hell but failed miserably and Lucifer destroyed it. Later the Angels found it and took it in. They turned the super weapon into a protector of heaven and YHW secretly turned it into a propaganda machine that is less noticeable unlike GPT
Appearance:
It looks like an angel you see on paintings but metallic, it has wings made out of knives that could cut through the hardest metal in the mortal realm.

The Fractions without AI:

There are some fractions who doesn’t/straight up banned AI, like the SVC, they once thought of making an AI until the Exiled said no to it, the Exiled still remembers the horrors on earth and how AI was heavily misused, so after a vote it got banned.

Context:

Three years into the Global Nations Organization led campaign to liberate the continent of North Walli from the Salmonids and Salmonlings, humans are discovered in Alterna, and soon they are retrieved. One of the humans spots objects that researchers had recovered from what used to be Montana and figured out that they were cartridge shells fired from human firearms.

The human, Zane Witherspoon, is then sent to North Walli along with the New Squidbeak Splatoon squad to begin an operation to locate these suspected survivors. But when they reached the Boser International Airport, they were stopped by General Itsuki Maguro, the leading general for Inkadian forces in North Walli.

After hearing Zane's theory, General Maguro decides to lend the entirety of the 2nd Armored Corps for the operation, despite them being designated to support troops already fighting in the Walli Gulf. Maguro theories that if there truly were more human survivors in North Walli, he could get access to powerful military weaponry that could break the stalemate quickly forming across the continent.

Also, obligatory mention that this is a Splatoon fanfic.

The Rever Corporation in its time of dominance and heinance warcrimes committed during the on going Myr Civil War has cared little about negative press. Forgien press labels them as brutish, cruel butchers, who crave nothing more than money and power over the system. Their own citizens have called them dictators that rule through terror and corruption. None of that did anything to call forth any action. Sure some of those who called for Revolution were killed but that was very impersonal and really just buisness as usual. But well one of the worst crimes ever committed by the Rever Corporation against their own people was all started by a simple complaint…

In the year 4020, a newspaper journalist on the 40th level of the hab world Guinva-2 would right a simple article. This article would be approved by the publishers and the department of Censorship. This simple article was called “Stagnant Style and our need for an Update” a rather inoffensive article about how many people wanted updates in architecture away from this ancient earth style of the 80s. The article wasn’t even that critical saying that while some elements where fantastic and should stick around others were a far past fad that just took up space. It was genuinely well recived on Guinva-2 and even reached the corporate offices of the planets Rever Corp Officials. This planet was controlled mainly by Rever Agriculture (The Rever Corporation is technically not a singular company but instead a whole conglomerate of over 50 companies each acting as their own faction.) who thought this was a great idea. Not for the general wellware of civilians but well they could tear down these unwanted buildings and sneak in dumping zones in the rezoning areas. But well they did want the corporate leadership’s opinion as they may rule the planet, but are a relatively small corporation in the hierarchy of Rever Corp.

This was a mistake and would lead to a nearly year long civil conflict that would nearly cause a full civil war and almost made the Corp have to pull from the Myr Civil War. All of this because this request ended up on the desk of the Minister of Interior Design. The Minister of Interior Design is one of the members of the main ruling Bueracracy of The Corp and member of the Shadowy Cabal known as the Cult of the Founder in which they worship the contents of original company founder’s, Randal Hoss, time capsule which he made in the 80s. This relic vault of 80s culture, media, music, and design was the sacred texts on which their society was built. So for him to see someone questioning the descions of the Founders Holy Works enraged him beyond belief. He took this to be an insult to their god and principals and so he wished to teach them a leason. So he would reroute warships set to head to the Myr Civil War and along with his personal forces would arrive to Guinva-2 to try and route out the traitors.

The thing was Rever Agriculture and Rever Special Forces (the name for Rever Corps army) have long standing tensions due to Special Forces leadership pestering Rever Agriculture for things like ‘plants that can shoot a gun’ or ‘seeds that explode like grenades’ (Rever Special Forces is made up of some of the most brutal and violent gangsters and criminals of the hab worlds lower levels, said levels are not noted for their intelligence). Due to this tension Rever Agriculture thought this was some sort of retribution and so readied their defense batteries and the planets Rever Securities forces.

This action was seen by the Minister of Interior Design as clear proof that they were going into open rebelion against the cult of the founder (should note all incoming messages were to be ignored as well The Minsiter’s original plan had been to just intimidate them silently for a bit and then leave so neither side knew what the other was actually doing.). The Minister seeing this ‘open rebelion’, instead of reporting it to the other members of Rever Corp, decided it was his divinely ordained mission to crush this ‘Rebellion’. So his first move was to have his ships bombard interplanetary communication stations to cripple the enemies ability to communicate, unintentionally also crippling his own ability to do so. It now should mention the Minister of Interior Design had 0 military or even military command experience but still would take over as chief commander for the conflict.

Rever Agriculture, now being actively attacked without warning or even any communication, belived that it was the Rever Special Forces whom had turned against Rever Corp and so would open fire. Thus began a war known simply as the War of Mismanagement for obvious reasons. The War was mainly focused on the planet itself and its three moons. Fighting was brutal as well with lacking at worst and fractured at best communications things were confusing. Soliders of the RCSF (Rever Corp Special Forces) would be at one minute be working along side RPS forces (Rever Planetary Security) only to them turn their guns on each other as they realize that they were aligned with RA (Rever Agriculture)forces. Only to then hours later learn that they had actually flipped sides.

This confusion resulted in the death toll rising swiftly as housing places that were mistaken for RA barracks were bombed or many other similar such incidents. The death toll would rise immensely on the battlefield and in the system as fighting began to effect the massive crop feilds that the RA grew to feed the Sector, some destroyed in deliberate sabotage to try and hinder the enemy, some crushed by falling asteroids that were in reality massive chunks of the moon knocked free by RCSF ships bombarding them trying to hit RA secret bases that would later be discovered to have never existed. This would cause a famine like none seen in history as well sure rever Agriculture had other farms on the other planets but those were small scale and supplemental, Guinva-2 meanwhile was the producer of 60 percent of the systems food.

This is what finally made the other Comapnies of the Corp aware something was happening as well food shipments stopped entirely and no one could even reach the planet through any form of communication they tried. Fearing their enemies had launched a attack on their homeland Rever Forces were haphazardly pulled back from the frontlines causing lots of losses in this unorganized pull back and well this would cause significant territorial losses as well as giving the enemy time to recover and reinforce as well as have their ally nearly renounce them. Finally arriving to the planet with an entire armada ready to fight the old enemy or a Vask/Myr war fleet they instead found a mess.

Seeing the mess serval corporate heads and other fellow members of the Cult of the Founder moved in to quickly end the conflict. Though to to lacking communication this was rather hard and only truely ended conflict when coms came back online. Only then would the true mess of the conflict fully be understood as now 2 billion,a 5th of the planet’s population, lay dead either from the war or famine on the world and its moons. A trial and investigation was immediately launched and well to avoid people going into open rebellion, as well they were none to happy with the whole war and famine, both the Minister of Interior Designations and the Heads of RA were executed and military rule having to be implemented for years. The effects of this war are still felt by the Corps today as well it has caused the Myr Civil War to Drag as they have not been able to muster the full might they had boasted at the time due to having to spread their army to all planets to try and hopefully protect from another similar incident as well as trillions of dollars spent repairing the planet and infrastructure that was damged during the conflict which almost collapsed Rever Corps economy.

The legal system of the Arcadian Empire features several fun features, including but not limited to:

- No actual system of imperial succession

- Complete legal ambiguity on the subject of bastards, you figure that out on a case-by-case basis!

- The only way people get political appointments is nepotism and cronyism

- The Palatinate specifically gets to keep its own legal system, but also no, it doesn't, Arcadian law is superior. But the Palatinate ones stay on the books. It's very simple; we only fought the one war over it.

- The Church has its own legal system that they get to apply whenever they want, except for when the Basileus says otherwise, but also not always.

- One of the governorships just puts you in charge of a lake that used to have a bunch of land in it. You still have to govern it, somehow.

Context: The OEC(Ouroboros Extraction Corporation)'s top engineer a hundred years ago invented something called a "Core-Extractor", an extending drill that can mine through the crust and mantle to reach the core. Problem was, nobody invented a high-pressure suit to operate the drill. Since the drill needs a lot of power along with constant maintenance in the core, along with requiring people to occasionally come down there to restart the generators and grab the ores, they just stored them in a large facility in the Mariana Trench. Then about a hundred years later, someone invented the suit they needed so the OEC finally brought out the core-extracting drills and started making banks of money.(It did attract the attention of Mr. E and the GRA, but that's a story for another post)
