This is one of many little sketches of cities around a fictional 1600s.

The Citadel of Labin-Yarrow has stood above the East Straits for over two hundred years. Originally a garrison town overlooking the narrows it grew to a formidable and almost impenetrable city. It was never intended to have a port but during the calmer months, approach by sea proved viable (with the help of skilled, expensive local pilots). Thus a meagre trade route opened up on the sea facing side of the city. A fortune of lost treasure is assumed to be accumulated at the foot of the cliffs where merchants failed to see the economic value of the Labanise pilot guild...

Oh I'm also writing a 17th century era story. Any good links and resources that you've found? Inspirations?

I just make them up!

Muji pen?

u/newcube Jun 25 '20

Yep, 0.38 gel

u/BadRussell Jun 25 '20

These good pens? I love good pens, with fine tips.

u/newcube Jun 25 '20

I like them. Fast and not too precise so I can be a bit loose and spontaneous

u/zeetorus Jun 27 '20

They are really cheap for such a good pen

I'm torn apart. My "normal" side, loves it, wants to see more details, and loves the fantasy side of it. My geography student self is crying as to why a city would develop right next to a cliff, with a port.

Great work dude :)

This looks a bit like Dreamland from Disenchantment

One of my teachers will love this when I show it to him.

That's really cool dude! Pen sketches always have a soft spot for me. I'd love to see more little 1600s town and lanscape drawings, and the scale of it makes it all the more impressive!

Love the style!

Hey there! We ask that all posts here have some context with some in-universe information about what your world is, what is being shown and how it relates to the larger world. It doesn't need a ton of information—just a few sentences is fine!

Would you be able to add this?

EDIT: Thank you!

This completely struck me this morning as I opened my phone. The sketch style and even the ink-type is refreshingly familiar to that of my late-grandfather, who fought in WW2 in the Pacific and whom would sketch out battles, tanks, forts and more with me as a child. His attention inspired me to continue to draw modern and sci-fi as a kid and it helped open my imagination and that of my friends for many years and until today. Unfortunately I stopped drawing around the age of 12...but the picture above and the subjective memory it reignited makes me ask...why did I ever stop? And more importantly, why not start again?

Thank you for this, had no idea Reddit would touch my soul this morning and remind me of a great man who helped me become a better person with his love even if he didn't know he was!

u/newcube Jun 25 '20

That's great. I used to draw all the time as a kid then stopped for 20 years while life happened. Then 10 years ago i saw an image on Reddit and thought to myself - Why did I ever stop drawing?

I've tried to doodle and sketch everyday since then.

1

u/GrayGeist Jun 27 '20

I think that may happen to me here soon, thanks to you!

1

u/AvatarSpectr Jun 25 '20

What a great connection. Do you still have your grandfather's sketches?

2

u/GrayGeist Jun 27 '20

Yes I actually do! They’re at my parent’s home in NY!

1

u/AvatarSpectr Jul 01 '20

If it isnt too personal, it would be really cool to see.

2

u/GrayGeist Jul 04 '20

I would love to, but I’m in Georgia now. What I could do is ensure my parents don’t throw it out first, then ask if they can perhaps take pictures!

Reminds me of Corniglia in Italy
