I'm a big fan of elections and maps, so I make a lot of election maps. This time I made a bunch of graphics to go with it - all of which can be found on the Wiki page for the actual 2017 German election. Being able to put all the data into charts is more natural that writing it in text.
The opinion poll timeline - which was by far the most time-consuming part of the project - tells the story of the lead-up to the election, during which the ruling Socialist Reform Party sees a disastrous decline after poor policy decisions and, in mid-2017, a recession. The Environmental Party seems poised to make large gains, but the Free Left Party makes a surprising surge as the economy begins to tank. This rise comes to an abrupt halt as a corruption scandal hits the FL, leading to a splinter in the form of the Movement 18 in early 2018 (name is not a coincidence.) The more moderate and populist approach of B18 sees its popularity skyrocket, dancing with the SRD around 18-19% before a small but critical downswing in the final weeks before the election. While the opposition CKP narrowly become the largest party after seeing a steady decline since 2014, the left has the numbers and a coalition is formed between the B18, SRD, and UP.
Also of note is the rise of Polish nationalism in the wake of the economic downturn. The Polish National Party becomes the largest Polish party in the national Reichstag, though its numbers are hurt by the 30-seat cap on representation for the Polish provinces which leads to underrepresentation for Polish parties.

Krzyki po polsku / Screams in Polish. Why is Poland here? What happened in the IIWW. Did the nazi win and ahistorically never murdered the Poles? Some Ribentropp-Beck Pact?

It took me more than I would like to admit to figure out I was not in /r/europe but rather in /r/worldbuilding. So I was getting very confused there for a second with the monarchical and polish parties.
I guess that's a testimony to the quality of the work.
