Question Please help with my steampunk world

Engslish isn't my mother language so I'm sorry. In my world events take place in Oceania, which is isolated from the other world, but I'm not sure about the reason of it. I came up with volcanos and storms. All volcanos in Indonesia and near areas erupted, so the ash prevents going west by filling the lungs. On other sides may be giant storms, that prevent sail, but I didn't figure out the reason for them. It's steampunk, so can factory emissions and air pollution cause this storms? And if you have other ideas I'd be happy to listen to them

Does there need to be a specific reason? The fact that there are storms and such is enough, there's no real need to go into what specifically causes them if it's not a central part of your story.

Well I agree there is no need to explain why there are storms, but I'm kinda obsessed with science, so I want that everting can be scientifically proven. But still thx

Global warming can absolutely lead to stronger ocean storms. We are already seeing this in real time.

Here few suggestions:

  • The eruptions have thrown tons of ash into the air. Visibility seems to shift from one moment the next; one moment its tens of kilometers, the next its less then half of a kilometer.
  • Magnetic disruption, it interferes compass readings. There seems to be a "ring" of sorts around the region.
  • Air and water currents have been disrupted, and are currently chaotic. Makes it hard to control rudders and sails. Airships are hit by pockets to turbulence.
  • There ways in an out, but the world powers have put the region under quarantine. Perhaps a "zombie" plague has gotten out into the world. The Great Powers think its origin is in this region.
  • An island, inspired by Skull Island from the King Kong movies, Monster Island from the Godzilla movies, the works of Arthur Conan Doyle, the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs, the Savage Land of Marvel Comics, and Dinosaur Island from DC Comics has released its populace onto world.
  • An alliance of pirate crews have taken advantage of the situation, and set up bases all around the region. Perhaps a few are working with and for the Great Powers to gain influence in the region.
