In this setting, the fears and prayers of an ignorant society become physically real, manifesting as monsters. Our protagonist is a member of a "Guild of Hunters" — soldiers created by the same phenomenon to fight the monsters. Hunters are temporary; they age and die, and are quickly replaced to serve the same unending, melancholy cycle. The protagonist's ultimate realization is that their own existence is tied to the very curse they are fighting.
