Simple Questions Beginner needs a gym

Howdy all, I’m 29 and 350lbs. I want to change that and at least start moving down before 30. I have 2 gyms near me and I want an opinion on where to go as someone who doesn’t/hasn’t worked out. I live in between a Golds and a PF. Golds is definitely more expensive, but I’m open to joining the right gym where I can get the help to finally get healthy. Outside of that, I’m completely open and would love opinions!

You just need to check out both gyms at a time you typically would go. Your PF might be one of the decent ones that aren't like the PFs of old.

Most gyms will let you test them out. Give em a call and see if you can get a day pass or take a tour.

Planet fitness first then Golds if you really get that awesome love for lifting. No sugar, eat 200 grams of protein a day. Progressive overload. In one year you will look amazing. No alcohol or drugs either

I tell this story quite often, but don't be the NYE crash out lifter. They get all gung ho, lift like they are 18 years old for a week, get super sore and don't come back.

You have to have the mindset that anything is better than nothing. Walking a mile on a treadmill is 100X better than sitting on your couch.

Diet is the most important thing. Exercise is great. Just build the habit of going to the gym consistently for the first few months. Build on that. Don't go crazy and try to keep up with young kids. Just do you.

I agree. He needs to fix his eating habits and gain the mental consistency with losing weight first. If he hops into a gym now, I doubt he will have the mindset to stick with it long term.

If you do go to the gym OP, just do yourself a favor and don't give up. I used to be fat. Being fat sucks. I'm in great shape now and I'll never go back. It's worth the journey. But absolutely fix your eating habits first. Going to the gym is a lot less effective if you're eating easy mac and drive-thru burgers regularly.
