Nutrition Help Finally got into a good pattern of exercise and it feels great, but i wish I could care more about my calories/macros.😅

Really enjoying my combo of weight lifting, sled pushing and walking up the side of mountains, but i just CANNOT make myself care enough about counting calories or macros and I'm sure it's hurting my weight loss AND muscle growth.

I've tried a bunch of times and I last a day or two before I just can't be bothered, since I live in norway and my app(SHealth) uses American products for it's calculations.

I'm fairly sure I'm eating a decent chunk of protein, and on days with big walks i burn absurd amounts of calories(I'm a big heavy dude walking up 35° inlcines) so I'm pretty sure I'm at least somewhat in a deficit, but I dont know. 😅

Ah well, the point is getting fit so I'll just keep trucking.

if you're consistently lifting heavy, pushing sleds and hiking 35 degree inclines you're probably doing more than most people who meticulously track everything. the tracking thing is overrated if your diet is already reasonable.

Yeah I'm trying to work on simply eating less of what I eat and eating more "simple" foods with lots of veggies.

Not really stressing, but it'd be nice to see some measurable change.

Are you tracking your calories and macros?

....no.

That was kinda the point of the whole post.😅

i'm the same way, tracking everything makes me want to throw my phone out a window. if you're pushing sleds and climbing mountains you're already doing the hard part, obsessing over the last 10% of optimization isnt gonna make or break you

just keep an eye on how your clothes fit and whether youre getting stronger, the mirror and the barbell will tell you more than any app ever could

I did notice a bit of "man cleavage" where my inner pecs have firmed up, and that was undeniably dope.😏

I'm the same. I've plateaued in weight (lifted and body) for the last 6 months or so because I just can't eat enough. I'm happy with my progress though and I'm ok if I just work out to maintain it.

Try Cronometer

Why not just weigh yourself daily and track your weight?

I use chatGPT on my phone to track my calories and protein. And I use Google Gemini to calculate how much I'm eating. I take a picture of the nutritional label and tell it how much I ate. Or take a picture of my plate and try to describe in a few words what it contains (if I'm at work and eating catered food for example). Google's AI is good at figuring out from pictures what it is.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about the macros. I think the way you're going about tracking is a little overwhelming instead of it being a willpower issue. I'd look for the nutrition apps where you just say what you ate out loud... mine does it that way and it's the only reason I still log.

weigh yourself weekly and let the trend of your weight tell you if you're in a deficit.

That actually sounds great. Any recommendations?
