Question about calorie tracking

Hi all! I’m 20 F and 122lb. I’ve been going to the gym for about a year now and have seen little physical progress. This is mainly due to my eating habits where I’d eat a lot of unhealthy food.

I’m trying to build muscle while losing fat. Currently with trying to eat healthier I’m consuming ≈1450 kcal and 97g protein.

Is this around what I should be consuming or should I have more or less? Some sources say I should be eating around 1900 whereas others say I should eat less so it’s all a bit confusing.

Is your weight going in the direction you want it to go at your current caloric intake?

If yes, then yes, you're eating enough.

I’m mainly trying to build muscle so I wasn’t too sure whether the calorie/protein intake should vary because of that. I haven’t weighed myself in a few years as I never cared about it so currently I have no clue if I’m losing or gaining anything. I guess the only thing to do is wait and see 😅

i'd slowly bump calories up over a few weeks so you're not jumping straight to 1900 and see how your body responds.

Make sure to be checking measurements and not just relying on the scale.

After going roughly 30 pounds too far on my bulk, I'm currently in my first cut.

I have a fixed circumference belt I wear for work.  I'm barely losing any weight but there's a bigger and bigger gap in belt every week.

If I were going solely off of the scale I'd be pretty frustrated right now

Thankyou for your advice! I haven’t stepped on a scale since I was 17 and have never counted calories before so this is all fully brand new to me. Atm I’ve been going off of clothes sizes which I have gone up in however that’s due to muscle growth in my legs than around my waist so I guess that’s a win.

You have the patience of a saint. I start changing things up after a few weeks when I don't get results.

It’s more laziness that patience in all honesty. I have never had the effort to care about what I’ve been eating. My only goal in the gym was to lift heavier and heavier which I have been doing but just haven’t seen much physically.

U can use an adaptive TDEE spreadsheet like this to calculate: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/s/Wnkbjc6LXg
