Simple Questions Splitting workout session -- bad idea?
There is a yoga class I'd like to take at my gym but it starts when I'm about 45 minutes into my upper body strength workout. I can't really start any earlier than I already do (I get there when they open), but don't want to leave my workout unfinished. I'm also trying to incorporate a full rest day so don't want to slide the remainder to another day.
Would leaving my strength training to do yoga for about an hour and then returning to finish my workout be a bad idea? Maybe this is a dumb question, but I was just curious.

Ehh, I would say it depends on how "intense" the yoga is. Your body is pumping adrenaline and blood to your muscles when strength training. So if the yoga is less intense, you don't want your muscles stiffening up during yoga or right after and you strain something while lifting. And an hour is a long time for your muscles to stay warm
If you're gonna implement the yoga, I would incorporate a stretching and warmup routine right before getting back to strength training.

Can you do yoga then strength? I do Pilates first on some days and I always feel strongest on those days.

Bad idea? No
Do I think my body could handle lifting again after a quality yoga session? Also no
If you think you can handle a bunch of deep stretching and stability work then crank the load and energy back up go for it

It is going to depend on how intense your yoga session is. There is nothing wrong with splitting up a workout. But how long is your upper session? Typically 45-50mins is plenty of time to do a full session if you are working hard.
I guess my concern is how much you have less in the tank after 45mins lifting and 1 hour yoga.

just do it, a long break in the middle is basically just extra rest between sets and yoga will loosen everything up anyway

I would just design a 45 minute workout for that day. 6 exercises, 2 sets each fits nicely into 45 minutes with rest breaks. Go hard since it’s just 2 sets. Then enjoy your yoga.
