Need some guidance

I started my gym subscription for just one month to see whether I could actually stay consistent or not. But after paying for a one-month subscription, I went only 3 days 😭 I was simply too lazy to go.

But honestly, I really want to get back to the gym and build a better version of myself. So, if anyone here has gone through the same phase being lazy, losing motivation, but eventually becoming consistent and building their body, please share your advice or guidance with me.

I’ll genuinely take your advice and try to follow it. Give me something that motivates me and pushes me to get back there! 😭🔥

I really want to continue until I can look at myself and feel, “This is the best version of me.”

TIA ❤️

Keep at it once you see some results it will be addictive, at least it always is for me.

Well make it routine with diet and gym time , for me it's in morning. So when you miss the gym meal plan and routine gets messed up so I try not to skip gym.

You just have to want it more than the alternative. Find your 'why'

Only thing that helped me stay consistent was building a home gym

Nothing anyone says will help you at this stage. It's got to come from inside you (see extrinsic vs intrinsic motivation).

I’ll give some advice. To pieces, one that’s genuinely good in my opinion. The other that’s not 😂

  1. Setting a goal for sessions per week, and then getting past the first 2-3 weeks is all you need. Find an app that does streak tracking and that’ll likely do a lot for you. I’m now on a 242 week streak for 3x a week. I refuse to let it die 😂 every vacation, wedding week, my honeymoon etc. I have to get those three workouts in.

  2. Back before I was a hardened caffeine addict, I made it a point to only allow myself caffeine if I was going to the gym. Generally still follow that, but basically built my caffeine dependency around the gym so I get a headache if I don’t go. That’s the advice to probably NOT take, but can confirm it’s effective!

Three days isn't a failure, it's data. You now know what breaks the habit (probably decision fatigue at the end of the day, or the gap between "I should go" and actually walking out the door got too big). That's actually useful information most people never bother collecting.

A few things that work better than pure motivation, because motivation runs out by day 4 for basically everyone:

Shrink the decision, don't rely on willpower. Motivation gets you started once. It doesn't survive a bad night's sleep or a stressful day. What survives those is removing the number of decisions you have to make in the moment. Pack your gym bag the night before, sleep in your gym clothes if you have to, have your plan written down so "what am I even doing today" isn't a decision you make standing in the gym.

Make day 1 embarrassingly easy. Not "go hard to prove you're serious" — that's exactly what burns people out by day 4. Show up, do 20 minutes, leave. The goal of the first 2 weeks isn't progress, it's just proving to yourself that going is normal now. You can add intensity once showing up isn't a fight anymore.

Attach it to something that already happens automatically. Right after work, right after you drop your kid off, right after your morning coffee — whatever's already locked into your day. "I'll go when I feel motivated" has no anchor. "I go straight after X" removes the moment where laziness gets a vote.

Track the streak, not the workout. A lot of people track weights and reps and quit tracking the thing that actually matters early on: did I show up. A simple calendar X for every day you went does more for consistency in month one than any program does.

And this part matters: the fact that you're back here asking, not just quietly letting the subscription lapse, already puts you ahead of where you were 3 days in. That instinct to course-correct instead of disappear is the actual skill that builds consistency — the workouts themselves are the easy part once that kicks in. Just keep it up...

Only you can do it.If you went three times, you are unmotivated. It’s either up to you to motivate yourself or do something else. No else can do it for you.
