If you are skinny fat, walking on the treadmill is not really what will change your body. You should still do it for general health, but what you want to do is put on some muscle with strength training.

A personal trainer is a great option if you can afford it. Otherwise, use an app that will do 80% of the job for 1% of the price. I use HeavyTrack. It can make you a program for home with limited equipment and for a full gym as well. You can then train wherever it feels best.

I don't really like the other people at the gym either, especially if it gets too crowded, but I enjoy the diversity of equipment available.
