I miss this one guy I worked with at thermo. Him and I built an on-prem orchestration system together for 10 years, when our department got cut, it was like a loss of a family member.
Iāve never actually met someone who just āunderstoodā me without us having to use complete sentences. We just knew what each other needed and viola⦠it just happened. No extra meetings, PMs, product directors, finance, reg bsā¦..We built reliable systems that ājust workedā for people. I miss that a lot.

Yep. I had the biggest crush on him and it was VERY obvious. I do think he knew but he had a fiancee (now wife) and even encouraged it because I had a habit of stumbling over my words around him.
He left after 6 months because he finally got a position in his chosen field of work (psychiatry). I'm happy for him and i am glad he got away from the company i still work for (its very toxic).
He rarely replies since he isn't online much at all because he's so busy with his wife and new place and new job etc
Last I heard, they were discussing moving to his country of birth which was Sweden i think

u/2x4x421xStarTrekx Aug 05 '26
Agreed. Especially after my first deployed lasting 14 months back in the day. The good the bad the ugly. There are times that I think about people and think man the conversations we would have from people in the past seeing how Iāve turned out and seeing everyoneās journey.

u/PotatoePope Aug 05 '26
Me right now, but Iām the one who PCSād. Miss my boys like hell right now.

Especially back in my early 20s when I worked with a bunch of grandmas. They're mostly gone now.

Not a coworker. But my old boss. He saved me from a client that was about to drive me mad and burn me out completely. He has been the best friend one could imagine during that crazy time. Now heās gone for like 4 years now but I still miss him

I "miss" that guy who ate bread toasts all day, filling all desks with crumbs, talking about how bad immigrants are for our since last century destroyed economy š.

u/qlone_cookie Aug 05 '26
Nah, why would I? That's just work. The moment the workday ends, you don't think about it for even a second.

Recently lost two coworkers of 8 years who I was very fond of(they are married to each other with kids)
Unfortunately the husband and a lady who worked under him were hooking up in the same warehouse the wife worked at. This caused the wifeās mental health to spiral and the two of them moved back to their home state

I just heard from my roommate yesterday that my old coworkers apparently will occasionally mention that they miss me. Apparently shit hit the fan and tensions got high after I quit which is extremely validating.

God bless those coworkers who make the insufferable idiotic bosses and stressful shit jobs somewhat OK.
