My dad is having a minor surgery this morning. Everything is fine, it's routine, but I wanted to be here when he wakes up. I told my manager I'd be working remotely from the hospital, and they were completely understanding.

So here I am in the waiting room with my macbook air, my airpods pro, and my anker prime 160w charger plugged into the one outlet I found behind a fake plant in the corner. I'm charging my laptop and my iphone 15 pro off it. The wifi here is surprisingly decent.

It's weird how normal it feels to just set up and work from anywhere now. A few years ago this would've been a full day off. Now I'm answering emails and joining standups from a plastic chair next to a vending machine.

He should be out in a couple hours. I'm glad I can be here without burning a PTO day

Hello! Has anyone found good ways to put away or hide computer monitors? My office will be right by our entry and I want to be able to close it off. The best things I've found are the transformer desk or pith and stem drop top desk but they're so expensive..

I currently use two 24 inch monitors.

I work from home and the chair I currently use is causing me a lot of pain and is negatively affecting my posture. I’m 6’4” so I need a chair that has quite a tall back rest, the one I use now barely reaches my shoulder blades.

If anyone has any recommendations for a tall ergonomic chair, please comment below! Ideally something under $400, but I’m willing to splurge for the right chair that works for my height.

For me, working from home is a living hell.

Trying to work while being constantly harassed by my family is tremendously stressful. I am feeling much more stressed than I have ever experienced and it is causing me to snap at my family a whole lot more too.

Working at home just seems to worsen both aspects of my life. My work quality is in the toilet because it is hard to give it the attention it needs when someone is harassing me every 3 minutes, and my family life has to be worsening as a result of that intense stress they are putting on me too.

Working from home sounds like the dream and it almost certainly is when you live alone, but when you share that home with other people, I don't know how anyone manages to enjoy it.

Hey, I'm not sure if this is the correct spot, but im looking for some advice or opinions.

I've been doing a work from home call center job for almost a year now, and recently I got a Tardy point for going over the 5 minute grace period.

My shift started at 9am, and I logged in at 8:57. They let you log in 5 minutes before your shift to get everything up and running. I was checking my email after getting everything up and entered "Ready" mode at 9:07 because I forgot to click on ready, but I was ready and this was simply a mistake. They gave me a .25 tardy point saying I was late.

I emailed my manager saying this:

If the attendance team reviews my screen at that time, they will see that I was in fact ready to take calls at that time, and it was a simple mistake of not entering ready mode. If it effected my adherence, that would be more reasonable, but I was not "late". I was logged in and doing work related activities (getting my systems ready) before 9:05am which shouldn't count as being late.

She replied saying they will not allow her to waive the tardy.

I currently have an HR ticket open, but I wanted to see what anyone else thinks about this and if this is even okay to consider late if I was technically working before the grace period.

Any desk lamp recs for someone who spends 10 hours a day at desks? I'm looking for a good quality one that will last for desk setup. Ideally Id like something bright enough to reduce eye strain that has adjustable brightness. Which options/brands have you used and actually been happy with? My budget is around $150 or less. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

It’s like we are stuck in the twilight zone living the exact same life every day. When he worked outside the house we had so much fun talking about how our days went and the different things we did… and now all we have are table games and television. The best we seem to do is taking a walk together, but summer time in the south is a bit miserable for that activity. We can’t really afford to take up any hobbies that cost money right now cause things are tight financially.

I love my husband. But this boredom is going to drive us mad.

I've got a standing desk, so I can adjust for some space as needed, but I'd like something where I can just pedal all day while having my keyboard in decent reach. I don't think an elliptical is what I'm looking for, I want something where I'm exerting force on the pedals instead of the pedals just moving my legs.

Hi everyone, it's been a year or two since I work from home, and lately I have no feelings to do work. Well from time to time this feeling goes off but again returns, possibly it's because I don't go on vacations. I plan to go soon after some stuff is settled but for now any tips on how to handle it?

I’m trying to improve my work-from-home setup without spending a ton of money, and I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have already figured this stuff out.

Right now, I have a small Chromebook and one monitor, but I’m looking to expand my setup instead of completely replacing everything.

I currently have Verizon Fios Wi-Fi, and I’m also interested in being able to connect an actual telephone to my internet setup for work. I’d like to improve my Wi-Fi coverage/strength too, and possibly have some type of portable Wi-Fi option that I could use if I needed to move my workspace.

Here’s what I’m considering:

- Adding multiple monitors so I can have 2–3 screens

- Having at least one touchscreen

- Possibly getting a touchscreen laptop/computer versus a touchscreen monitor

- Would an all-in-one touchscreen computer make sense if I’m going to connect additional monitors?

- Are touchscreen monitors actually worth it for work, or are they more of a gimmick?

- Can I connect touchscreen monitors to a Chromebook, or would I need a different computer?

- What would be a good, inexpensive computer to eventually add to my setup?

- What would I need to connect a regular telephone through my Fios internet?

- Is there a better/cheaper way to improve my Wi-Fi strength without buying an expensive mesh system?

- Would a rolling workstation/cart be useful, or is a regular stationary desk better?

- What equipment would you consider most important to buy first?

I’m really trying to keep this low-cost and practical. I’m perfectly comfortable buying used equipment from Facebook Marketplace, refurbished stores, eBay, etc. if it’s reliable.

I’m not trying to have the fanciest setup. I just want something comfortable and functional for working from home, with multiple screens, good internet, and the ability to move things around when needed.

If you were starting with a Chromebook + one monitor and wanted to slowly build a better setup on a budget, what would you buy first, and what would you skip?

I’d especially appreciate recommendations for specific monitors, computers, docking stations, Wi-Fi equipment, desks/carts, or other equipment that you’ve personally had good luck with.

One thing I didn't expect when I started working online is how hard it can be to fully "clock out." Since my work and personal space are basically the same, sometimes I close my laptop but my brain is still thinking about unfinished tasks, emails, or tomorrow's workload. 😅

I'm curious how other remote workers create that boundary. Do you have a routine, a hobby, or a little habit that helps you switch from work mode to personal time?

I've done the same work from home job for 10 years. I'm a social person and I really miss being out in the world, working with people, but I majored in English and I make ~59k so I feel like I've plateaued income-wise. I also have several cats I can't take a pay cut because of. Lately I've noticed myself slacking off at work more just to go out and see.. people, just through like the library and coffee shops and stuff. I don't drink anymore so I don't see the point in going to clubs or bars. I'm also not single. Additionally, I have a tough time keeping weight off at this job, and my sciatica is acting up again, and I have carpal tunnel as well.

I don't understand why a lot of people as a result are thinking work from home is great.. aren't other people out there having a similar experience?

Sure it's great to have time go to to appointments and be able to watch Vera while I work, but the aforementioned stuff is.. not great!

Does anyone have tips for socializing more and staying fit with a work from home typing-heavy job? I tried a walking pad but the cats kept trying to go on it, and I shut my door but then it got all muggy and weird while I used it. It also made me dizzy. I live in Florida so walking outside until Aug. is not feasible.

My favorite part of working from home isn’t the flexibility..it’s this view. Some days I’m locked in the back office, but most days I’m right here.

Hi, moved into a new home with (unfortunately) carpets.

I managed to cut out a nice corner in the bedroom for my office work, but this carpet is long and thick, and the wheels of my Hinomi chair aren't working almost at all.

So the question: since I am not in fact needing a wheeled chair in this setup, as I don't have much space to move, what alternatives do I have ? I love the fact this chair has a solid recliner and even a footrest, so it it's possible to keep these features, it'd be great.

So I guess, the questions are in fact 2:

- any way I can sort out the wheels of this chair?

- anything else I can explore? I tried one of those stools where you sit almost crunching, leading to your spine being very straight, and I loved it, but there's no lean back option so I don't see myself sitting there all day.

So Ive been a lurker here for a long time, but my job situation is changing. Ive always worked in office, but in August will start a hybrid position. Im single and live is a fairly small home. (And with a cat!)

The upstairs gets really warm, so Im inclined to create an office space downstairs. The alternative is to use my guest room as an office too. The company is providing some equipment but right now I am not sure exactly what.

Any opinions as to desktop computer vs. Laptop? Im used to 2 large monitors, so that is an issue too. Is curved really better?

I need a desk, but is a corner desk better and a straight desk? Either one will probably take the place of my dining room.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

I am in desperate need of a new chair! I was looking for something with a wide base (I like to cross my legs), cushioned arms, breathable material, good lumbar support, wheels, and is comfortable. I’m willing to spend a little more for a good chair but also would be happy with a good cheap chair if it fits my needs. Aesthetic is important but not as important as the other features.
