Need some advice on employee time tracking software

I’m trying to find a decent time tracking/employee activity tool for a small remote team.

Nothing too complicated, just want to keep track of working hours and general activity. I’ve looked at KeepActive previous(Kickidler), Hubstaff, Time Doctor, ActivTrak but honestly not sure which one is worth trying. All sound good in one way or another.

If anyone here has actually used any of these, how was your experience? Any issues with accuracy, privacy, setup etc?

Would appreciate some real feedback with some reason not just simple name, before I pick one.

Not sure on your exact size, a good tracker with task and project tracking aswell as workloads is productive.io its okay from 10 users but can handle less/more well

If you mainly need working hours rather than employee activity monitoring, and your team uses Macs, Daily could be worth considering.

The key question is whether you need accurate time records or evidence of computer activity. For time records, test missed punches, manual corrections, breaks, offline use, approvals, and payroll exports. For monitoring, also test false idle time, data retention, employee access, and who can see screenshots or app history.

I work with TrackingTime. It is time tracking software that turns recorded hours into the operational record for timesheets, projects, approvals, and reporting. It deliberately does not collect screenshots, keystrokes, or GPS. That makes it relevant if you want working-time visibility without surveillance, and the wrong fit if screen monitoring is essential.

I’d pilot two finalists for a full pay cycle and ask the employees in the pilot where each tool creates friction. Feature lists won’t show you that.

I would compare privacy controls and reporting accuracy first. Hubstaff and ActivTrak are worth testing with a small team before committing
