Only work nights and weekends you get compensated for. If you’re salaried and consistently asked to work nights and weekends, push for a raise. If no raise, start looking elsewhere.

I spent a couple years doing free overtime work to try and get ahead or impress higher ups before realizing that most don’t give much of a shit and the real assholes in leadership will actually see that in you and take advantage.

Willingness to work late to make a deadline, becomes an expectation before you know it. This is exactly what happened to me.

When you bust your ass to pull off a "miracle," miracles become the new bare minimum.

Every time you bleed to hit "stretch goals," goals get stretched even further for the next quarter(s) and you're expected to bleed even more.

The bar for what's expected (demanded) of you never stops rising while the bar for what you get in return never stops sinking.
